Not a wish list btw.
I'm mid thirties and I think I will see the end of:
Petrol and diesel cars
Cows milk (majority drinking soy/oat)
Pork being eaten by most
Smoking (that's hopeful)
People casually throwing around comments about people's weight
Royal family
Legacy benefits :(
Landline telephones
Desktop computers
A lot of pubs :( :(

I don't think you're right about pork. No more eggs Benedict, bacon butties or pancetta or kolbasa? No more than pork, hangi with poaka, hot dogs or schab faszerowany? No way. It's too central to too many world cuisines to give it up without an oink. And if the delicious piggie population were somehow decimated, we'd grow bacon in Petri dishes, surely. But really we'd find a way to resurrect the delicious, delicious piggies.

I think tv channels will die a death (good riddance) but there won't be much "free" internet content for much longer (boo).

The film industry has been dying for a while and will eventually go kaput, too.

Air travel will become cripplingly expensive and we will travel less and get more ignorant, intolerant and insular. I don't think much fun about air travel (kids' travel packs, free alcohol, cheap getaways to the continent) will remain.

Reckon you're wrong on cow's milk. Even if people drink it less there's a lot of things that there isn't a decent substitute for in cooking from making a cup of tea to making the sauce in Mac n cheese.

Affordable 4 bed family homes with decent sized garden in London

State pensions for all but the very poorest and maybe not even the poorest (age for qualification will go well over 80).

Petrol and Diesel cars- even thought there is limited planning for this right now.

Landline phones

Wattsapp and Facebook- I think there will be a move to more private communication methods given Wattssapp particularly is being used in legal and work disciplinary cases

Thinking about it and at the risk of sounding paranoid, the UK's use of internet/www without adequate security, isolation of essential infrastructure and physical/analogue back up after the first state-backed generalised attack on infrastructure, either as part of a limited war, testing tools against a relatively safe opponent or as part of a heist. The loss of life and persistent financial chaos from altered records will force politicians to listen to their cyber-security advisors. I hope this happens before cash disappears though it would lead to a reintroduction after some period of ad hoc barter.

Hopefully boxing. I feel some less popular sports might become virtually extinct due to the rise of electronic sports.

All those saying landlines/home phones - do you have excellent signal where you live? We don't. My mobile doesn't work indoors, no signal at all - have to walk up to end of garden or road to make/receive a call. Not exactly private, when neighbours can hear me on phone to whoever.

So if landlines are to become obsolete, we need a much better signal available for those of us who live in the countryside, not near a town.

ChrissyPlummer · 07/10/2021 11:58

Why milk? Apart from the two vegans I’m acquainted with no one I know doesn’t drink milk, nor would they countenance anything else.

Petrol/diesel cars; not sure on this either. Electric cars are too expensive and the infrastructure isn’t there yet.

ThreeLittleDots · 07/10/2021 11:58

Yes, I think there will eventually be more mobile masts or satphones to cover rural areas

We're a non-vegan household and mainly eat vegetarian. Even reluctant husband now refuses to have cow's milk in his coffee after becoming aclimatised to a nicer non-dairy alternative

Yes! Mine is pretty good where I live now but I used to live in a coastal town where my mobile would pick up French/Belgian networks but I couldn’t call my parents 200 miles away! Had to get a landline installed.

Crooked teeth
To be replaced with falsies, ie bleaching, veneers etc?
midgedude · 07/10/2021 12:15

Crooked teeth may disappear as teeth disappear with lack of dentists

The middle class.
Statistical nonsense, in whatever structure we live there will be a middle! As no-one can agree on what is meant by 'middle class' it's unlikely to disappear, change maybe but not disappear.

I think people prefer proper paper books to reading off a screen on the whole

I think there's something in that. I've gone back to hard copies when I'm at home (do have a kindle for out and about) because I just spend so long on screens for work/ study/ life admin that I enjoy the change. Also, I love a good browse. Not the same on a website.
