I think we've all been a bit worried about the ol' money now you can't buy petrol or food and all the gas is really expensive, plus universal credit has got cut. But thankfully the government says we'll all be paid more instead. This is brilliant news! I'm really looking forward to it. Aren't you?

@Sciurus83

I can't wait! Almost a decade of pay freeze in the civil service in one of the most poorly paid departments, it's going to be brilliant! I wonder how much we will get, maybe I can afford a house near a good school....IMAGINE!
I know! After 8 years of static pay with increasing hours I'm super excited!

@Annie2245

The amount of people who abuse the benefits system is so minute compared to the overwhelming majority of people who need the benefits just to survive.

I can't believe you're peddling that dailymail-esque bullshit that people are choosing it as a lifestyle choice.

No one wants to choose being on the bloody breadline as a lifestyle choice.

merrymouse · 09/10/2021 11:19

It’s a shame benefits are now treated not as a stop gap between jobs but as a lifestyle choice. I don’t think people should be more than comfortably off on benefits it’s too easy not to work if that happens.

I think you are confused about which people receive benefits.

People who work rely on benefits and food banks.

I don't think anyone is choosing to be in full time work and still be in a position where they qualify for benefits.

Parody account?!?

Margerine78 · 11/10/2021 10:30

Wow, there are people in the UK who actually believe Boris?!

Pretty sure nurses didn't get a rise. Can't speak for everyone but I work in music and Brexit has royally f**kced the arts. I don't expect a rise any time soon. In fact whatever Boris says, I assume the opposite will happen (there's a pattern).

Decaffe · 11/10/2021 10:35

@Pinklioness

Of course there's going to be a wage increase.

For politicians.

Because they're the only people who actually vote for their own pay levels.

They don’t, actually.

Nurses got 3%.

Didn’t Boris announce a public sector pay freeze earlier this year? Is he saying he’s changed his mind on this?

Margerine78 · 11/10/2021 10:52

@Decaffe, wasn't there some issue with how it wasn't enough to equal inflation rates going up though? (I admit I've not read up on it recently so could be wrong). I know I'm screwed though!

LizzieW1969 · 11/10/2021 11:17

Yep, I'm excited. The only problem is the price of bacon will be going up because of the flying pigs 😬

^🤣 You beat me to that line.

That's what's so infuriating about hearing him constantly saying on camera at the moment that wages are rising, does no one hold him to account for what he says anymore? Why isn't he being challenged? Is it simply the opposition is too weak? I'm sick of him getting away with it all. Our standards have dramatically reduced in recent years. I think we are just so severely desensitised we just assume they lie and don't care anymore.
