I think we've all been a bit worried about the ol' money now you can't buy petrol or food and all the gas is really expensive, plus universal credit has got cut. But thankfully the government says we'll all be paid more instead. This is brilliant news! I'm really looking forward to it. Aren't you?

But TRAGEDY on the other hand tho ...??!

Amirite?

Maverickess · 06/10/2021 18:53

It's a piss-take, Maverick.

Of course were not getting more money. It's a jolly jape from Johnson to sound good.

Yeah, I know.
Still interested to see where this NI increase is going to end up though, because I really don't think it'll result in more or better paid staff, either in the NHS or social care, and I really can't see anyone else getting any more money.

Very simplistic question, but seriously, where does it all go?!

TSSDNCOP · 06/10/2021 18:54

I have decided I will level up to be an HGV1 driver and earn millions of pands being all essential and while I'm driving I'm going to listen to podcasts so I can level up to be a STEM teacher in deprived parts and earn even more pands

There will be zillions of extra pands for everyone, which is great news as tax is going to level up too meaning we will have the same pands as we do now post deductions.

HepzibahNutter · 06/10/2021 18:54

It goes up my arse Maverickess. Right up my boney Scottish arse.

@adawong

No problem getting fuel or food, energy prices have gone up everywhere and UC has not been cut . Why post shit like this?
Just because you're smugly OK it doesn't mean others are.
nancy75 · 06/10/2021 18:55

@ssd

I cant wait for more money. Maybe Sunak could spare some, i read he's had planning permission for his swimming pool complex at his mansion. But hey we're levelling up so thats fine.
Does levelling up mean we’re all getting a swimming pool complex? I really must get a new cossie, don’t want to look a scruff while I’m splashing about
REDHERO · 06/10/2021 18:57

We are levelling up don't you know, all going be earning tons more.

Level earnings, level education, level playing field, it's all coming.

buttermutt · 06/10/2021 18:57

It definitely won't be improving the services

Pedallleur · 06/10/2021 18:58

It's gets better. Gove told daily Mirror (I think) readers how vat could be taken off gas bills if we left a Europe as they insisted we apply it. Well we are out so when does the vat come off?

Maverickess · 06/10/2021 18:58

@HepzibahNutter

It goes up my arse Maverickess. Right up my boney Scottish arse.
😂

Might result in a more comfortable sitting experience for you if your bony Scottish arse is padded out with newly printed £50 notes?

Silver linings and all that 😉
@Sciurus83 I KNOW! I was getting all worried for a bit I'll be honest. You know, £90 a month down with my NI increase and my UC cut, plus my energy provider's gone bust taking all my credit with them (not before one last sneaky little direct debit hours beforehand tho lol those cheeky scamps) and I'll doubtless get gouged arseless by whichever I'm allocated.

So truth to tell I was feeling a bit bleak.

But now I know I'll just get loads more pay, well, it's a weight off my mind let me tell you. Hurrah for Ra(rara)ab!
I am so, SO glad I went against the advice of everyone here saying not to pull your credit out because it will transfer.

Seeing as Raab has said i'll get more money, I wonder if men and women will both have their pay raised to match, to battle that terrible misogyny against men and misogyny against women.

@RandomLondoner

I'm paying only limited attention to the news, but I doubt anyone is claiming that people will be generally be paid more to do the same jobs they've always done. (Those whose wages were depressed by immigrant competition may be the exception.)

I suspect the aspiration is to increase wages be increasing peoples skills so their work is worth more.

Perhaps I'm wrong, can anyone link to what's actually been said?

What are they going to do, encourage people to get PhDs in cleaning toilets and then once they've completed that, start paying them enough to pay their rent?

We can't all be aspirational. If we all become aspirational, there will be no cleaners, care assistants, shop assistants, bar staff, etc.

mbosnz · 06/10/2021 19:01

Oh, and I'm supposed to get patriotically off my arse and go do whatever needs doing, so that those areas that cannot find workers for love nor money, can function. Yeah. Nah.

I'll do nowt to pull his chestnuts out of the fire, but by crikey, I'd do anything to actually whack the noxious buggers bullocks in it.

Thewiseoneincognito · 06/10/2021 19:08

I’m going to be so stinking rich I can’t wait!

AND not only that but now that the poor will be getting poorer I’ll feel even richer! Win win! 🥳

Tory by proxy. 💙

😐

Postdatedpandemic · 06/10/2021 19:18

Gove promised us years ago that we could all be above average if we worked hard and up skilled.

Just imagine the utopia of having the majority of people above average.

Just like Singapore on Thames but without the dormitories of migrant Chinese and Malaysian labourers.

AndOtherStories · 06/10/2021 19:26

Our local McDonalds franchise (which already lays over minimum wage) has just put all pay rates up by £1 per hour due to difficulties with recruitment and retention, so it is happening. That's a huge rise. It's probably not a good thing in the overall scheme of things and it certainly wasn't as a result of any deliberate government policy.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 06/10/2021 19:35

Grant Shapps told my industry that we won't get pay rises for three years. But Boris this week said that wages are going up, so I figure, he must know more than Grant. I'm looking forward to my rise Smile

MushMonster · 06/10/2021 19:48

I do love it! Most people levelling up, just above average LOL
I will sit here waiting for it, eagerlyGrin

Heatherjayne1972 · 06/10/2021 19:53

Well edwina curry on Jeremy vine today said we should ask our bosses for extra hours and /or a pay rise. If we drive to work we could ask for a company car
So there’s that ….

I also heard what boris said about pay rises and lower taxes but I assumed he meant for himself and his pals

Ask for more money. Yes. Because that will work if you’re working for a business decimated by Covid that is barely managing to cling on to you. What planet are these ghouls on.

I feel it’s going to get so bad we may see rioting and protests on a scale previously unthinkable. The contempt for the common person is clear as day. How much can people take?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/10/2021 20:07

Oh, this is awesome news! But can I check OP - did you read this news on the side of a bus? Because lavish financial promises should only be taken seriously if they're printed on the side of a bus.

SantiagoSky · 06/10/2021 20:38

Ah - so easy! Just ask for boss for more money!

HatsOnHatsOff · 06/10/2021 20:48

Excuse me Mr Javid, please may I have some more money? Edwina said i could ask you and Boris said I'd be getting more so I think you must be able to afford it. I would so like to go on holiday next year if that's not too much to ask. TIA

AI and Robots 🤔 not sure I'd trust Metal Mickey to wipe my arse...

the80sweregreat · 07/10/2021 06:26

Sir Peter Bottomley said that the 82,000 a year most MPs earn isn't enough!
He didn't mention their expenses.
They need to earn more ..how will they cope?
.. Hmm
