I think we've all been a bit worried about the ol' money now you can't buy petrol or food and all the gas is really expensive, plus universal credit has got cut. But thankfully the government says we'll all be paid more instead. This is brilliant news! I'm really looking forward to it. Aren't you?

If Boris thinks we need better paid jobs i'm going to forget about healthcare and jack it in to be an influencer or an arms dealer!

MyOtherProfile · 07/10/2021 06:48

And the best thing of all is that some genius at the Tory party conference yesterday said they are all confident that Johnson will be PM for 20 years! Party on!

FellInLoveWithABanana · 07/10/2021 06:50

What are we all buying then? A nice house with a swimming pool complex, a new swimming costume…anything else?

I am going to ditch Lidl and shop at Waitrose. I can’t wait.

Porfre · 07/10/2021 06:54

@the80sweregreat

Sir Peter Bottomley said that the 82,000 a year most MPs earn isn't enough! He didn't mention their expenses. They need to earn more ..how will they cope? .. Hmm
Poor MP's!!!

I mean however do they manage?

malificent7 · 07/10/2021 06:55

Why do people vote for these fools?

CovidCorvid · 07/10/2021 06:59

I mean if we’re levelling everyone up is that no communism? Odd approach for the Tories. 🤷‍♀️ Who therefore obviously know it’s just bullshit to feed the masses.

DumplingsAndStew · 07/10/2021 07:05

Oh goody, me too? As an "unpaid carer" I get paid £67.60 per week.

Boris actually has some say into what I get paid, do you think he'll increase it?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 07/10/2021 07:07

It's brilliant news. The Tories have found a way to pay veg pickers, hgv drivers, slaughterhouse workers, food packers, butchers & shelf stackers MORE and farmers LESS but high quality home-grown food is STILL going to be affordable AND we're going to be saving the environment and wildlife at the same time!
SUCH good news.

LakieLady · 07/10/2021 07:09

Does levelling up mean we’re all getting a swimming pool complex? I really must get a new cossie, don’t want to look a scruff while I’m splashing about

But it'll be your own private pool, @nancy75, so no-one will be able to see you! You can swim naked if you want. Grin

I can't quite work out where they'll put my pool though, I'm on the 10th floor of a tower block.

ForensicAccountant · 07/10/2021 07:13

I am so excited with all my renters getting paid more I will be able to put rents up. Obviously I will only do this to cover the inflation induced interest rate rises (just going to check 10 year fixed rates).

Lougle · 07/10/2021 07:17

I've heard that, in a break from all the usual rules of the economy, the new shiny wages are not going to lead to an increase in the cost of living and we will all actually have more spending power, too. Which is great, because my fuel bill went up to £233 per month this month.

Ylvamoon · 07/10/2021 07:28

I just need enough of a pay raise to buy a few exra thick and warm blankets. Best way to dodge the energy prices raising.

I'm sure Boris agrees.

BashfulClam · 07/10/2021 07:28

Hang on, have they written this on a bus…it’s only true if it’s printed on a double decker bus!

Lesina · 07/10/2021 07:34

@HepzibahNutter

It goes up my arse Maverickess. Right up my boney Scottish arse.
Grin
OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 07/10/2021 07:35

I live in the North, just imagine my delirium at the upcoming Levelling Up! Praise be!

Fizbosshoes · 07/10/2021 07:37

Perhaps I'm wrong, can anyone link to what's actually been said?

Edwina Curry was on the radio yday and she was encouraging people , if they were in low paid jobs, to tell their employer they're leaving. The employer wouldn't want to see a good worker go so would likely give them a payrise...Hmm
...you could be forgiven for not hearing this among all the other patronising BS she came out with.

Malteser71 · 07/10/2021 07:37

I’m really glad that all the HGV drivers will be paid the same as surgeons. Because surgeons will no longer bother with all that long and expensive training, they’ll just drive trucks.

Huzzah!

nameswap48 · 07/10/2021 07:38

If I hear him saying wages are rising one more time I'm going to scream, he's literally frozen our pay, and that's after a decade of decline due to inflation.

Partyowl · 07/10/2021 07:42

Hoorah! As a small business owner, barely hanging on by the skin of my teeth, I can't wait to offer my employees a pay rise this morning - oh, hang on. That'll finish me.

ColitisSucks · 07/10/2021 07:48

Oh, are they? That's brilliant! I'm waiting for surgery at the moment - I know a couple of truckers, maybe one of them can do it?
NeedAHoliday2021 · 07/10/2021 07:49

I think my nhs pay rise will cover my parking (which they are starting to charge for from November even though government is still sending hospitals funding to keep it free Angry)

Spudlet · 07/10/2021 07:50

Look guys, it’s easy to be all sarcastic but you only have yourselves to blame, right, because all you had to do to ensure success was to make sure you were born into a family with a massive day offshore trust fund or two. Easy peasy. Then you’d be able to afford these luxuries like ‘houses’ or ‘tertiary education’. Or possibly food and petrol. Whatever it is you people want.

If you can’t even be bothered to do that, there’s no hope for you, frankly.

CeeJay81 · 07/10/2021 07:54

Yes the minimum wage looks to be going up to £9.42ph, gosh we are all going to be rolling in it🤣. I won't know what to do with this extra pennies! Oh yea my work pay £9.50 atm, wonder how much of a rise we will get. They could put it up by 20p an hour, that an extra Mars bar I can buy every week.

HalzTangz · 07/10/2021 07:57

@RandomLondoner

I'm paying only limited attention to the news, but I doubt anyone is claiming that people will be generally be paid more to do the same jobs they've always done. (Those whose wages were depressed by immigrant competition may be the exception.)

I suspect the aspiration is to increase wages be increasing peoples skills so their work is worth more.

Perhaps I'm wrong, can anyone link to what's actually been said?

This is exactly what it will be. Either that or NMW will increase slightly. Only the rich will get richer the poor won't see any huge change
HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine · 07/10/2021 08:00

Not excited no. You're forgetting inflation. Everything will cost more so it's not going to be real pay rise for most of us, is it?
