When I was young, I thought life's morning's march ended at 24.

Incredible to think how I've managed to extend that by nearly 20 years. Grin

Stereotyping based on biological sex, race, religion etc is discriminatory and rightly condemned but it seems okay to talk about middle aged bores and old biddies.

Right and people who resist it as if it's the plague, because God forbid they're ever seen as such, play into those stereotypes.

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/10/2021 11:11

There was a thread on here before about 35 being middle aged. I don't see that as being middle aged either as I was pregnant with my 2nd at the time. I think once a woman has gone through menopause in their 50s etc that might be getting near middle age.

Ori3 · 05/10/2021 12:13

Middle-aged is in your 50’s to me

TuftyMarmoset · 05/10/2021 12:30

Coming from someone who is also 26 - YABU. Do you expect to die at 52?

Horst · 05/10/2021 12:32

I always thought middle age was 30-40’s tbh.

JudgeJ · 05/10/2021 12:44

@Titsywoo

I am 42 and wouldn't even say middle aged - I would say 45 or 50 to 65 is middle aged.
I'm looking forward to middle-age and I'm 73! We all have three ages, the one on our passport, the one in the mirror and the one in your head, I'll settle for the latter!
Snoken · 05/10/2021 13:03

I’d say at 26 you are quarter aged.

Anonymouseposter · 05/10/2021 15:17

No we don't we only have the age indicated by our date of birth. People are individuals though and at any age have different personalities, different health issues and different attitudes and opinions. I happen to be fairly old, that says nothing about me other than how long I have lived.

MaryShelley1818 · 05/10/2021 15:19

Hahaha 😂😂😂

Yeah, you're definitely doing it wrong if you feel nearly middle aged at 26!
I'm 43 and definitely not middle aged quite yet, my children are only 3 and 8mths!

Thatsjustwhatithink · 05/10/2021 16:06

At 26 you're only just an adult.

What do you do for work?

Thatsjustwhatithink · 05/10/2021 16:07

Fucking spot on. You can't identify out of your age!!
Seldon · 05/10/2021 16:22

For those who are saying middle age is about half life expectancy I kind of disagree. I would put it around 50 because it’s when you’re not in an easily identifiable bracket. Taking some averages…

Less than 18, you’re a child
Then to thirty, you’re young
Thirties and forties is a family age
Fifties is that bit when you’re not yet retired, but no longer young.

I’m sure someone can explain better

Horst · 05/10/2021 16:26

I’d say 50 was old not middle aged. Your what 15/17 years from retirement which then makes you an oap and when you can claim your bus pass, winter dual allowance and used to be free tv licence.

Fifthtimelucky · 05/10/2021 16:47

Middle aged starts at about 50 in my book. It will last until about 70. That gives me another 10 years until I'm old!

Riada · 05/10/2021 19:37

I think that’s pretty old-fashioned. A lot of people are having their children in their forties, so they hit 50 with young children still in primary school, and very few people in know retire in any conclusive way at 65 or 67.
ConstanceGracy · 05/10/2021 19:52

What a moron

fishonabicycle · 05/10/2021 19:55

You're either on a wind up or thick as mince.

Horst · 05/10/2021 20:45

Then maybe pension age should increase then if that’s no longer considered old.

Iloveabourbon2 · 05/10/2021 20:50

You must be my 6 year old DS op. Asking if I was born in the Victorian times..

Angrymum22 · 05/10/2021 21:10

I suppose most of the teenage girls I know act more maturely than I do at 57. Maybe the younger generations are just too serious and go straight to middle age.

AdmiralJaneway · 05/10/2021 21:17

Ha ha ha!!! I’m nearly 47 and feel as though I’ve only just reached peak middle age as evidenced by the need to turn the radio to ClassicFM in the drive to work this morning!! Grin

Cuddlyrottweiler · 05/10/2021 21:27

YABU I'm 26, am I fuck nearly middle aged 😂 40s is middle aged. 30 is proper established adult.

Sinthie · 05/10/2021 21:28

What?!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/10/2021 21:29

Will you be booking in for Dignitas for your 40th, then?

You're being ridiculous.
