I'm 41 and only starting to be properly middle aged, and I'm only saying that because I love being middle aged. If I didn't, I'd be denying it for another decade.

I'd consider Middle Aged to be from about mid-50s. I don't think it needs to be taken literally, that middle aged is half your life.

There's no way someone in their early 40s should be described as middle aged!

It's generally accepted as 40 plus

Probably only till you get there yourself, then it's pushed back! I guess technically I'm in the middle, at 46, but I don't feel like it.
I suspect the op has just lit the goady torch, but actually if someone does feel genuinely middle aged in their twenties, that's actually really sad.

I would say around 40-43 onwards, maybe up to around 56, is middle-aged. After that, even with the best regional or family average life expectancy, you are kidding yourself. OP, you have a while to go yet.

Not RTFT but unless you have a life-limiting condition, I'd say 40-45 is probably middle aged.

26 is obviously not middle-aged but I think it's interesting and a bit sad that the negative reactions to this from people in their 40s/50s are so strong. What's wrong with being middle aged?

I'm mid-30s and consider myself middle aged because I'm literal-minded and expect that with my health issues/family history, if I live to be 70 I'll have done well.

It means I'm likely around the midpoint of my life (obviously I could die next week or live to be 100, but those things are unlikely). That's all. It doesn't mean I'm boring, on the scrapheap, or whatever other highly negative connotations people seem to be applying. It doesn't mean I don't have a lot more to do in life before I go.

I guess it depends how fast you've lived up until now. If you plan on kicking the bucket before 60 then maybe.
