AIBU Facebook is down!

No fb for over an hour now, literally just realised how much I am on there, hopefully this helps to let go a bit.

Now it's starting deluging with rain here. My kitchen velux was leaking earlier but im tucked up in bed and avoiding looking at what carnage might be happening down there. If the internet goes tomorrow I won't have the foggiest how to get it fixed- yellow pages anyone?

Yes, but theres lots of things on there. For example I am in two local groups that use Facebook and messenger to arrange rehearsals. I have friends that I don't have their phone numbers - we arrange to meet up using messenger and WhatsApp. And most importantly, a lot of my business is marketed using Facebook.

It's maybe trivial to some, but it's something that many of us have come to rely on for lots of reasons.

I'm sure it will be back. But let's not pretend it's something insignificant.

I’m missing WhatsApp. DH is offshore and has no mobile signal. Wonder how much longer it will go on for!

Twitter is a cesspit, and basically took the worst part of Facebook at the time (statuses which at the time were mainly inane updates on someone's day no one was arsed about) and ran with it. Shame it wasn't them.

Lots of people use these apps for work. I use Whatsapp predominately with a group of colleagues to discuss important things we need to know for tomorrow's shifts, swapping if someone is sick etc.
I also use it to communicate with my father who is mostly deaf and lives in France.

I use Instagram to aid in running my business and actually it can be quite catastrophic to small businesses, the creative industry in particular relies heavily on Instagram.

It's not always just mindless social media. I love the MN snobs thinking they are holier than thou as they 'never used social media' yet here you are...on social media... 🧐

My mother has already phoned me 4 times today. Its torture. but at least I'm updated on Marjorie's ailments Josie's operation, Carols dogs vet visit none of who I know in real life or have the faintest interest in.

No not particularly. All the things that are down are linked to Facebook in some way. It’s a clusterfuck born from allowing one company to hold so much of a monopoly

No it's a forum. They've been around a lot longer than FB and other social media

That's not how language works.

Just because the term 'social media' as a catch all wasn't around when the first forums started, doesn't mean they can't fall into the category.

The shop regarded as the first supermarket opened in 1930. The term was first coined in 1933.

I've looked at several different definitions of 'social media', and forums definitely fit the criteria

I am surprised it's not back up yet. I'm not sure I believe these routing have been deleted rumours though but guessing it's a big fudge up to be taking so long. Losing Facebook wouldn't be a big deal for me, but I know a few peoples whose whole business and livelihoods are based on fb/insta so it is a big deal if things are lost / deleted.

I may have missed it, sorry if I have in the mayhem, but have there been any demands yet for Army personnel not shifting petrol to be deployed to act as runners between households until this is all resolved?

These things can be worrying but don’t you think at least one news outlet or some other social media would have at least hinted at something? Even the Daily Mail are saying it’s likely an internal fault and they love to blame the Chinese or Russians!
