No fb for over an hour now, literally just realised how much I am on there, hopefully this helps to let go a bit.

I'm away for work in a nondescript corporate hotel. So far I've done many jobs I've needed to do forever, deleted emails, cleared out my handbag, so much time!!

@TokyoSushi For some reason, I always clear out my bag when away from home for work!

And, if I’ve driven, always clear out my car too.

Someone mentioned in 2019 it was down for 24hrs but I can't remember that.

MZ could be doing a bit of cleaning based on current events? There were security problems in 2019 too which was the last time they had an outage.

It might have been hacked, if so most likely by a bored teen.

More likely a key server fault or someone put the wrong bit of code somewhere.

I don’t care about FB. I do care that I now can’t contact clients and other work related stuff.

You get an error message now, not a 'doesn't exist' message.

Something big is going on - for Facebook. It is a monumental IT cock-up, probably done by somebody who was updating something. The current thinking is the bit that routes all the traffic to and from the internet (DNS) has been effectively switched off. In other words, Facebook literally disconnected itself from the internet. Unfortunately switching it back on isn’t as simple as just pressing a button. Lots of stuff affected, but there are even reports of people turning up and not being able to get in to the building, because all their systems are linked to those servers.

When it comes back online, they will have to restrict the number of people trying to get on until the DNS can all update properly.

At least that’s what my IT husband has been saying. (I may have paraphrased him, this conversation went on for an hour 😛)
