No fb for over an hour now, literally just realised how much I am on there, hopefully this helps to let go a bit.

Its a list of typical cock ups DH has whinged about to me endlessly for years.

Its a case of doing all the fucking stupid things you possibly can (live update not properly tested), having a single point of failure and then having a structurial set up which needs multiple groups who don't have enough knowledge on their own who need to coordinate to fix the problem.

Aka as a clusterfuck.

Its more a case of poor practice, preparedness and prevention for catastrophic failure events.

I think there will be a few people looking for new jobs in the next few days....

I don't think they're arsed at this point. Facebook spiralled way beyond what MZ ever envisaged, their acquisitions of other platforms was purely for monetary reasons, he has made his money, probably pleased to see the back of it.

There are more than a few big brands joining in.

I'm away for work in a nondescript corporate hotel. So far I've done many jobs I've needed to do forever, deleted emails, cleared out my handbag, so much time!! 😁

I don't like it. I know we can text but most of my communication is in groups... I do t know which person from each group to message and do you just say the same thing to each person and Cary on multiple conversations 🤯 it's all too much

I know and what do you even say? It has to be something purposeful to send a text not just the group chat stream of consciousness rubbish.

If I know anything about this type of incident (many late nights waiting up for DH say I do), I'd say it might be a while yet...

Its a good advert for why tech companies like this shouldn't be 100% wfh cos when it goes tits up, you don't have people onsite immediately to sort the mess out.

WFH is fine to a point, but trying to coordinate remotely in a crisis situation rather than have a face to face conversation is much much harder and time consuming.

I only understand the 'laymans' version of all this, but it sounds like a classic textbook failure just on steroids.

I run my cat charity through Facebook though. I'd love to come off it, but there's no other way for me to run my sanctuary and events. Or if there is, I haven't worked it out or prepared myself for it. We're about to move premises. We don't even have a websitr. Only FB. I run everything through FB. I really should think of a back-up plan.

@Upsielazy I think thats pretty much it. Once a company reaches a certain size it always happens. They don't have the greatest reputation as an employer either. They don't care. And the employees don't really either. I do feel for the poor bastards who have to sort the mess out in a stressful situation. They are the ones who get dumped on.

Phoning is expensive. Skype is practically gone in favour of Teams. Hard to use them as a form of communication if nobody else is signed up to them.

I have 600 minutes and unlimited texts with my phone package.

Not that I'm going to ring anyone, but I can text.

I get that a lot of people are saying it is linked to the Data leak woman, but she isn't telling us anything that we haven't theorised about or outright know. She is just confirming things as an insider.

On the other hand, Facebook is 100% gonna be tied up in the Pandora papers. I am not a conspiracy nut in the slightest, I think most of them are nuts. But facebook going dark right as a Data leak and Pandora are revealed is WAY too convenient to be a coincidence.

The poor people working on restoring this will be under so much pressure and expected to not sleep or need to eat until it's fixed.

@RedToothBrush yep, this feels like it has a normal service will be resumed in a few days vibe about it. Unlike the catastrophic fire at the TV mast in the North of England which is a weeks long problem and even fixed has whole areas which won't be covered long term. We can send William Shatner into space but the folks in Leyburn won't be able to watch the telly coverage !
