Currently in the process of redecorating my bedroom and itching for inspiration. Would MN be ever so kind to show me their bedroom so I can pinch ideas be inspired by their room? Thanks

Tiffany green coloured walls, shop fittings sprayed gold. So shelves and clothes rails are open to the room. 50s teak furniture.

Amitskitshaw · 04/10/2021 20:31

… and lots of art work - all weird and wonderful - all sizes - no theme

Oblomov21 · 04/10/2021 20:31

Love all the rooms. They are so beautiful.

My room is small. And my duvet is enormous. Yours are all very slim and neat.

All of you have tonnes of rugs, blankets and cushions.

GlomOfNit · 04/10/2021 20:33

Well, like an earlier poster, I was hoping for loads of photos of clutter and people saying 'here's mine, it's a disaster zone' ... Sad I feel really shit about our bedroom, though I wouldn't want to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and have something that looks like it's out of a boutique hotel but where nobody seems to live.

I'm trying to think of nice things about our knackered, unloved but very lived-in bedroom. It has a posh V Spring bed, something we splurged on when we moved house (and needed a larger bed to co-sleep in) but the headboard is boring cream damask, not me at all, and the futon base is a cream woven textile. They're great beds/mattresses, but not pretty. We have a nice but faded small rug I bought in Turkey as a student. It goes with nothing, I love it nonetheless. Two B&W photographic prints of Ansell Adams views of Yosemite that DH and I bought as special souvenirs back when we actually travelled, rather than Holidayed With Kids. Those are all nice things.

Everything else is a disaster. The walls are still a deep yellow, painted by the last owner (we moved in 11 years ago). I don't really like yellow and this one manages to look dirty (and probably is fairly dusty where I CBA to reach). The ceiling light is one of those vile inverted 'Chinese' hats that collects dead moths and I loathe it, but try to use it as little as possible. We have bedside lights with frosted glass shades that I quite enjoy. The bedside cupboards are mismatched horrors in varnished pine YES PINE and hold a dusty collection of cufflinks, collar stiffeners and silk handkerchief squares (DH) and a tottering pile of books I've already read (me) as well as the normal bedside detritus of post-it note pads, pencils, water beaker and spare glasses.

The flooring is 20's pine boards, mostly ok, but also a freezing cold hearthstone on my side (boxed-in fireplace) which has a rather manky sheepskin on top because otherwise your feet freeze to it.

(I do hope this is building up a delightful picture because I'm not about to post one! Grin)

Beside my side of the bed is the wall, and along the wall is what ought to be a bookcase except there IS no bookcase, just more tottering piles of books. These are divided into Books I Have Read In The Last Ten Years, and the ones I'm going to read yet. There are lots. They are dusty. There's also some Stuff rammed down a useless sort of alcove by the side of the bed which I've never worked out how to use (could put a narrow chest of drawers in but then would have to sacrifice my reading lamp and place to put water). Don't ask me what Stuff. Stuff that shouldn't be there.

Moving along down to the end of the bed we have two mismatched chests of drawers. Let's call them Vintage. (one is probably 20's from the art deco brass handles and escutcheons, I like that one. The other is 50's/60's but not in yer Mid-Century Chic way, it's minging.) The 50's one is topped by a mirror that isn't hung on the wall yet, and my jewellery and hair stuff. The other one is topped with a jumble sale of my clothes, the ones that don't have a place to live or are in the process of being worn.

Moving on, there's a set of floor--ceiling patio doors giving on to a death-trap flat roof. The view of hills and the river is lovely. The doors themselves are not and the plaster around them is flaking and mildewed (badly fitted). In the corner is a teeny tiny little 30's wardrobe that DH inherited from grandparents. I hate it and can't work the door lock. It just about holds half his clothes. On top of it are boxes with woolies in. And jigsaw boxes. Then there's the en suite which is just about ok I suppose, then DH's wooden valet clothes stand thing. All piles on the floor this side of the bed are his problem. Bookcase in the corner behind the door, dusty. Everything is dusty.

I honestly don't know where to start, apart from burning about 3/4 of our clothes and getting rid of a lot of books. Sad And you say some of you have rooms for dressing in ?! Grin

Sexnotgender · 04/10/2021 20:36

@GlomOfNit

Sexnotgender I LOVE the colour of your walls! I love deep colours in rooms that are meant to be havens or relaxing - I had a deep blue living room in the 90's (ceiling and walls!) and it was my own little womb. Grin
Thank you. I love our room. I do like a bold colour in certain rooms.
Creamegg11 · 04/10/2021 20:39

Thanks! Yes just minor wear at top but generally sound condition. As it’s vintage, I don’t really mind. It’s by Avalon, a British brand I think.

Tempnamelady · 04/10/2021 20:43

I love my bedroom . Cornforth white walls.

@andmoreagain it’s not wallpaper, it’s the name of a paint colour. It’s actually New York City winter, not morning - I got that wrong in my original post!

Fluffmum · 04/10/2021 20:52

Pale grey walls white bedding and furniture silver grey rug clear light shade

vickyp0llard · 04/10/2021 21:02

We're about to redecorate: wall behind the headboard will have this mural www.photowall.co.uk/foggy-forest-4-wallpaper?gclid=CjwKCAjwzOqKBhAWEiwArQGwaPdgPR4YM1zhtoIZVObizyAKySguuDBe73JzsxGqoWuljuNpC4vrcRoCNVMQAvD_BwE, the other 3 walls will be dark green. Dark green curtains, and wood furniture.

Eatdrinkbemerry · 04/10/2021 21:03

@buttermutt - that is one of the wallpapers I have selected for my hallway!

Very nice (cupboard) good for you.
I got a pale pink kidney shaped one with a light, sadly the mirror had gone but I found it dumped in an alley 🥰 almost killed me getting it home.

pollymere · 04/10/2021 21:07

I had flood damage and I asked the decorators to paint the walls the colour of the sky on a sunny day (Crown Lupin). I have old English white woodwork which is creamy rather than stark white. Large pine bed.

I really hope you've written a novel that you've going to plug now, because I love your writing style.

So jealous of all these beautiful bedrooms! Ours has a king size bed that's much too big for it and loads of clothes piles covering the floor Confused

Tuesdayschildisfairofface · 04/10/2021 21:19

I love this thread. Mine is very plain. Off white walls and white bedding and curtains. Beige carpet and old chest of drawers and a crappy IKEA wardrobe.
