Unvacinated nanny

Hello - We took out baby out of nursery spend ages trying to find a nanny instead. We have found somebody recommended by a colleague however she is not vacincated for Covid for personal reasons. Our baby is 10 months old, we are both double vacinated however I am still uneasy about this. My husband thinks its fine but I'm keen to know what other Mums think.

OP posts:
Flowerlane · 29/09/2021 21:02

How did you find out she wasn’t vaccinated?

Talktalkchat · 29/09/2021 21:08

It’s the vaccinated passing it around

mygenericusername · 29/09/2021 21:08

I personally would be more interested in her qualifications, experience and bind with your child.

Don’t be blindsided by such a trivial matter.

Porcupineintherough · 29/09/2021 21:08

@Talktalkchat

Oh do qualify that with some evidence.
Talktalkchat · 29/09/2021 21:08

@Babdoc

As well as frequent absences for contacts, if she actually got Covid she would be ill for longer than a vaccinated person, and might then have long Covid and be off for 18 months. Hiring a vaccinated nanny reduces all these risks of having to potentially cover multiple absences.
She won’t be, 1 in 3 have no symtoms.
Porcupineintherough · 29/09/2021 21:09

@Talktalkchat so 2 in 3 do then right?

Talktalkchat · 29/09/2021 21:10

@Porcupineintherough because the majority of the people who are vaccinated are mixing with other vaccinated.

It’s dumb to think non vaccinated are the only people passing around covid.

Blame every single mother f who goes to big huge social events, sees families or socialises and thinks “I’m double jabbed, I’m
Not the issue”.

I won’t get started on lovely natural immunity….

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 29/09/2021 21:10

I wouldn't hire her.

Talktalkchat · 29/09/2021 21:12

@Porcupineintherough also those with a vaccine (because even one jab is a vaccine) are going to work after being pinged and living with people who have covid.

Those unvaccinated are at home.

Crazycrazylady · 29/09/2021 21:13

Honestly it would be a no from me , mainly because all the anti vaxers i know are a bit bonkers generally so I'd be suspicious that they'd be slightly crazy under the hood.Shock

pianolessons1 · 29/09/2021 21:13

Unless I was desperate then no. For all the reasons given above and because idiot anti vaxxers should get some consequences for their actions.

Sonarl · 29/09/2021 21:14

not a chance in hell.

Stormyseasallround · 29/09/2021 21:15

A hard no from me. I’d have no desire to have loons like that in my home, much less near my children.

OP said the nanny is not having the vaccine for personal reasons. That does not make the nanny an anti-vaxxer.
Pettyargument · 29/09/2021 21:16

XenoBitch I don't think a 10 month old baby is going to be influenced by conspiracy theories.

The baby is obviously not going to stay 10 months for long. Nannies are usually employed long term

Lightswitch123 · 29/09/2021 21:18

@roses2

It wouldn't put me off but I'd be clear upfront that she doesn't get paid if she has to isolate.
This seems reasonable

Yes…. Like death Lisa Shaw
Driftingblue · 29/09/2021 21:19

I would not hire an unvaccinated nanny. You might have a degree of protection, but your child has none.

Charles11 · 29/09/2021 21:23

I wouldn’t have an issue with it. It’s such a mixed bag on totally unpredictable who will get very ill and who won’t, despite vaccine status.

MissCreeAnt · 29/09/2021 21:24

I think it depends what your alternatives are. I expect you don't have a queue of well qualified candidates with excellent references lined up, or you wouldn't be asking the question. If that is simply because you haven't advertised or contacted an agency, do that. If you have done your due diligence and she is still the best candidate, go with her.

XenoBitch · 29/09/2021 21:25

That is true. Although the OP did say the nanny is not vaccinated for personal reasons. Conspiracy theory types/anti-vaxxers tend to be very vocal.
Grenlei · 29/09/2021 21:26

Wouldn't bother me, but then I'm not vaccinated either.

Other than when I had Covid, I've not had to isolate at any time, so I don't see why it would be assumed she's going to be taking loads of time off for this reason?

Sprostongreen21 · 29/09/2021 21:29

The issue is the time off work. Aren’t the rules different for contacts if unvaccinated? Do you have to pay her for isolation periods, which could be frequent given how much covid is around atm plus find additional childcare?

Happy to be corrected.

doublemonkey · 29/09/2021 21:30

People who've been vaccinated are just as lilkey to get Covid as those who haven't.

Namechange12312 · 29/09/2021 21:35

Just because she hasn’t had it doesn’t make her anti-Vaxxer Confused. Plenty of people I know haven’t had it for various reasons and I only know 1 loopy anti vaxx and she is extremely vocal about it.

I would employ her if she is good and you
/your child had a connection with her. But I would have a discussion on payment during potential isolation periods.
