If you were predicted to have a giant baby, how big were they when born?

I was told my baby is already 6.5 pounds at 32 weeks! They reckon by 37 weeks he’s going to be well over 9pounds and are pushing for a csection. I have gestational diabetes which I’m now taking meds for so hoping that will slow him down a bit but I really really don’t want a csection if I can help it and want to see about induction at 37 weeks.

My daughter was predicted to be big but she was 7 pounds at 37+5.

What would you do in my situation?

My son was predicted 9lb odd and was only 8lb, and that was at 42 weeks as well.

My DS was predicted to be big on the scan- his massive squashed cheeks were visible! But after a few growth scans they agreed he wouldn't be too big and I had a vaginal birth, codeine, morphine and gas and air.

He was 9.14!! And yes his cheeks were massive but I didn't struggle too much with the birth and only got a graze.

He slimmed down quickly after birth but is really tall like my DD, he was just born big because I was forced feeding him éclairs via my mouth during the pregnancy haha

Idontbelieveit14 · 29/09/2021 19:22

First was 10lb 6 which surprised everyone, second was 10lb 8, they induced me 10 days over instead of 14 🙄 third was 10lb 13.5, they induced me 7 days overdue 🙄 they made such a fuss at the beginning of my second and third pregnancies that they wouldn’t let me go overdue but they did.

Idontbelieveit14 · 29/09/2021 19:23

Had all 3 vaginally. Had stitches each time but only 2nd degree tears

beetuljoos · 29/09/2021 19:30

6lb 13oz

beetuljoos · 29/09/2021 19:31

They said he was going to be huge. Measured off the charts, massive bump. He was tiny. Most of it was in his giant head (92nd percentile) and he was in prem clothes for a while.

ImInACage · 29/09/2021 19:41

I was predicted a 9lber, he was 6lb13oz. In tiny baby clothes for the first two weeks.

Shinytaps · 29/09/2021 20:03

My baby was predicted 7lbs 5oz at 33 weeks. I was induced at 38 weeks and he was 9lb 5oz. I had Gestational diabetes too. There was no suggestion of a section but the doctors were keen on early induction. I also asked for early sweeps (37 weeks) and they agreed.

Cheeseplantboots · 29/09/2021 20:08

9lb isn’t overly big though. My sister is tiny (5ft and really slim) all her babies were over 10lb. A cs was never mentioned and she had them naturally with no issues.

bubblebath62636 · 29/09/2021 20:10

Mine was 98th percentile, estimated 10lb 14oz at 39 weeks...

She was 8lb 4oz 😂

Getyourownback · 29/09/2021 20:11

Mine was predicted at 8lbs 7oz and came out 6lbs 10oz.

lycrapants · 29/09/2021 20:12

My second DS was 10lb 4.. no mention at all during pregnancy that I was in for a big baby! Delivered him naturally and was easiest of the three. He cast a shadow over other newborns at playgroup, one delightful mother even called him a "monster"!

Dora33 · 29/09/2021 20:17

Told my baby would be between 10 to 11 lbs. She was 8 lb 14 oz . Birth was fine. I would think it's more the size of the head and shoulders that would make a harder birth.

Verbena87 · 29/09/2021 20:21

It really varies. Mine was predicted big and was 10lb9oz - vaginal delivery but needed forceps and was a bit traumatic. Not sure what I’d do in your shoes - given my chance again knowing what I do now, I’d have induced sooner or considered elective section.

GinasGirl · 29/09/2021 20:24

I had GD with my second and third. My second was 10lb and my third 9.4lb but then my first was 8.9lb so all fairly big.

spudjulia · 29/09/2021 20:28

How are they estimating the size? Have you had a growth scan?

My first was 12lb (do I win??), no GD and they weren't expecting him to be that big.

My second I wanted growth scans in the run up to birth so I could make a decision closer to the time with more info (although scans aren't exactly accurate). In the end I had a planned section for other reason than his size, and he was 10lb at 40 weeks.

gumball37 · 29/09/2021 20:40

I wouldn't push for an early induction. Baby needs time for lung development.

I was refused a vaginal birth (in the US by a small local hospital) because they estimated my youngest at over 11 lbs. I went into labor the morning of the C-section and they still refused... So C-section it was. He was 9lbs 14 oz... Not over 11. And my oldest was 9lbs 1 oz, so IMO, I'd have had no reason to believe I couldn't have a vaginal birth. But we are both healthy. He's a tiny little 3 yr old now haha. And my recovery was a fucking breeze, which I know not everyone can say.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 29/09/2021 20:42

i received no such predictions with my ds. He was 10lb.

TakeMe2Insanity · 29/09/2021 20:43

My mother, was told she was massive and therefore I was massive, born at 41+ weeks I was 7lb but very tall. So I only just fit into the see through hospital cot.

brightgreenapple · 29/09/2021 20:57

7.13

Briarshollow · 29/09/2021 20:58

If I were you I’d save myself and have a section. Much calmer than a potentially assisted delivery.

Isahlo · 29/09/2021 21:07

6lb 13 at 38+6 with a lot of water weight from a horrid induction

Jammysod · 29/09/2021 21:09

Estimated 10lb+, arrived 10 days late at 8lb6.

GingerbreadLaTTee · 29/09/2021 21:10

I was predicted to have a small for dates baby I kept getting told she wouldn’t even be 6lb And how tiny she was….

She was 10lb 2!!!!!!

ronswansonstache · 29/09/2021 21:15

9lb 3oz at 39+4. I enquired about a c section but was pooh poohed and told women don't grow babies they can't birth. I went through full labour and ended up signing the consent form for an unplanned c section plus all kinds of other unpleasant stuff at the end. I did manage to deliver vaginally with the help of an episiotomy and ventose.

Interestingly, most of my Nct group were also predicted bigger babies but they all came out about 6-7lbs!
