If you were predicted to have a giant baby, how big were they when born?

I was told my baby is already 6.5 pounds at 32 weeks! They reckon by 37 weeks he’s going to be well over 9pounds and are pushing for a csection. I have gestational diabetes which I’m now taking meds for so hoping that will slow him down a bit but I really really don’t want a csection if I can help it and want to see about induction at 37 weeks.

My daughter was predicted to be big but she was 7 pounds at 37+5.

What would you do in my situation?

Induced at 37 weeks because of second being predicted so big. She was only 8lb 10oz at birth. I suppose if I'd gone past 40 weeks as I did with my first then she could have been huge. My first was born at 41 weeks 3 days and was 7lb 2. Second birth was easier to be honest. No pain relief or anything just a long induction. I wanted a home birth and wish I'd have done that now but hey ho.

rainbowdashsneeze · 29/09/2021 10:31

At 30 weeks they predicted she was 7lb and she was born at 39 weeks and weighed 10lb 1oz.

JoborPlay · 29/09/2021 10:34

Predicted large, no estimated weight though, just lots of "ooh, they're going to big", "they're measuring big" etc, extra scans and such.

Was 6lbs.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 29/09/2021 10:35

My fourth was predicted to be "about a stone" and was one day early, weighing 9lb 14.

ShinyGreenElephant · 29/09/2021 10:37

My dd was 9lb 13. Had a home birth and no pain relief, was absolutely fine, not even a graze. I dont see why you need a section purely because its a big baby, unless there's other reasons

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/09/2021 10:38

Predicted to be big. Was 9lb2 but smaller than predicted.

MakingM · 29/09/2021 10:40

I was predicted a 10lb baby. The baby arrived at a perfectly normal 8lbs. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it yet tbh. There's such a thing as too much data.

I did enjoy my CS though so if you think that might be a good choice for you, go for it.

montysma1 · 29/09/2021 10:40

Don't know about predictions but my husband was 11.5 pounds and his mum is tiny.
I always say I would have slapped him!

Crikeyalmighty · 29/09/2021 10:41

All predicted to be on the bigger side— 8.10, 8.6 (10 days overdue in both those cases) and 8.3 ( 10 days early)

My sons wife looked absolutely enormous but baby boy was only 6.13 (2 weeks early)

Londontown12 · 29/09/2021 10:42

I would wait and see usually when they predict a large baby is nonsense! I didn’t have GD son was 9lb 3ozs natural delivery and no complications, daughter was predicted to be a lot bigger than son but she was born naturally no pain relief and she was 8lbs 8ozs ! Just try and relax x

OlafLovesAnna · 29/09/2021 10:42

My predicted 'huge' baby ended up being born on his due date and was the smallest of my 3 at 7.12lbs (his older brother and younger sister were 8.7 and 8.9 respectively.)

MakingM · 29/09/2021 10:42

p.s. It is likely to make a difference if you are already being treated for gestational diabetes. In your circumstance, I think I'd sign up for the CS and look forward to not having to do labour with this one. I'm not sure why you are so against a CS though. Personally, I'd prefer a CS to induction.

Therunecaster · 29/09/2021 10:43

My sister was told her son looked on the small side. He was 11lb!

SnailAndAWhale · 29/09/2021 10:44

Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate (as this thread has shown!) so I’d be cautious to agree to a C section if it’s not something you want, based on a weight prediction alone.

My first was predicted to be very small, we almost induced at 37 weeks based on the consultant being concerned she wasn’t growing enough inside. Eventually decided against that and went into labour naturally at 41+3, had a very normal weight of 7lb 8oz.

Second baby was predicted to be big, measured 4 weeks ahead from 26 weeks onwards. Went into labour naturally at 38+2, had a 6lb 13oz baby.

princesspeppax · 29/09/2021 10:44

Predicted 9lb 3oz was born 9lb 10oz at 39+1

CoRhona · 29/09/2021 10:45

DS1 was 9lb 15oz, didn't fit into any newborn stuff!

Griselda1 · 29/09/2021 10:46

I had two 9lbs 11oz babies and one 9 lbs 10oz. Interesting to read about the other poster with the large baby who had positional talipes, my last baby had tibular torsion from being squashed basically. They were all vaginal deliveries and none of them were accurately scanned to be even within a few lbs of that weight. My 2nd baby was born with one arm up and caused a lot of vaginal injury. Best wishes, it would be so much easier if the scans were accurate.

anxiouscrazymum · 29/09/2021 10:47

Was told my first was going to be 10+lb, he was 7lb4oz x

Mammaaof · 29/09/2021 10:49

They told me my baby was going to be absolutely tiny, I had hardly any bump, all the scans he measured small, they told us to buy tiny baby clothes for him!! He came at 41 weeks weighing 8lb 9.5oz!! Scans are mostly wrong 🤣

Mammaaof · 29/09/2021 10:50

Also I only had gas and air and he came out easily in 3 hours, cant say it hurt anymore than my 7lb baby x

Thriwit · 29/09/2021 10:50

DD was estimated to be over 10lb at 37 weeks. I was induced then and she was 7lb 1oz. She was also supposed to be a boy. So the multitude of scans I had were just wholly wrong Hmm

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/09/2021 10:50

I had GD, induced at 37 + 5 and Dd was 8lb 11oz

DrJump · 29/09/2021 10:51

My first was 10 pound 2 oz. He was well positioned going into labour. It was a straight forward birth and i was back home within 12 hours.

DrJump · 29/09/2021 10:52

Evidence based birht has some really useful, guides about big babies.

Kindleswitchface · 29/09/2021 10:53

A planned Csection is much preferable to an emergency one OP. So if you can have an elective, take it.

My eldest measured normal. There were no concerns over his size. He was 9lbs when he was born at 41 weeks.

My youngest measured ahead, there were concerns over his size and I was on the borderline for GD my entire pregnancy. He was born by csection at 38 weeks and was 8.5lbs. He would have been 10 pounds apparently if I had gone full term with him.
