If you were predicted to have a giant baby, how big were they when born?

I was told my baby is already 6.5 pounds at 32 weeks! They reckon by 37 weeks he’s going to be well over 9pounds and are pushing for a csection. I have gestational diabetes which I’m now taking meds for so hoping that will slow him down a bit but I really really don’t want a csection if I can help it and want to see about induction at 37 weeks.

My daughter was predicted to be big but she was 7 pounds at 37+5.

What would you do in my situation?

Dd2 was was predicted to be 9.5lbs she was 6lbs 13 born on due date

Thatsplentyjack · 29/09/2021 13:08

I've had 3 and not once has anyone told me how heavy they predict the baby will be or what they are weighing while I'm still pregnant. Infact only with the third was I told she was big and they wanted me to go for a glucose test.
First was 8lbs 8oz 12 days over
Second was 9lbs 15oz 10 days over
And third was 10lbs 6oz 7 days over

Newgirls · 29/09/2021 13:10

Mine were both nearly 11lb. First one was 10 days overdue in the end. Induced then eventually c section.

Went straight to c section second time!

Both normal sized people now!

picklemewalnuts · 29/09/2021 13:10

I had my 9lb boy first, no warning he was going to be big.
Then my 10lb4oz boy. Told he'd not be as big as his brother. Ha.

So it's doable by usual methods- I'm broadly built though.

kitkatsky · 29/09/2021 13:11

Was told to expect 8.5lbs. She was 5lbs 13oz

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 29/09/2021 13:12

Mine were 10lb 4oz and 10lb 5oz and I was induced both times before they got any bigger!

SheABitSpicyToday · 29/09/2021 13:14

Watching him jump about in my tummy, I don’t think he’s as big as they’re saying. He seems to have plenty of room to stretch out and stick his little feet out.

I was predicted to be birthing big, he was 5lb 14.

Boombadoom · 29/09/2021 13:17

Expected a 10lber. Was 7.10.

Dogsandbabies · 29/09/2021 13:17

My second was predicted 9lb and was 7. My third was predicted 9 and was exactly 9. Different hospitals though and the sonographers at Kings (the third baby) were superior all round!

CantChatNow · 29/09/2021 13:18

I had a lot of monitoring for my babies looking small. They were all 6lb something so smaller side of average. I don't know how accurate they can be really!

Problem I’m having is I’ve been seeing two different consultants who keep disagreeing and changing their minds. It’s been so frustrating. The care I’ve received in this pregnancy has been appalling.

Mine were all predicted to be large except the smallest one who was 8 lbs 5. My others were 10 lbs, 9 lbs 6, 10 lbs 3 and 9 lbs 12. The scans were accurate for me, they all weighed a similar amount to yours at the 32 week one.

Ohanami · 29/09/2021 13:34

I was measuring so big at my midwife checks that I had to go for diabetes testing (was already having growth scans to check for a small baby thanks to past medical history). I did have an enormous bump, but then I'm quite short. Dd was 8 lbs 10 at 41 weeks, so a hearty 75th centile but not huge by any standard. She had measured 75th centile on the growth scans and they prepared me that my vbac might not work, but in the end it was a pretty straightforward and quick delivery.

ducktape · 29/09/2021 13:46

Predicted 9lb12, actual 7lb7. She did arrive 12 days early though, so may have been close to predicted if she'd kept to her due date.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 29/09/2021 13:47

Predicted 9lb plus. Was just over 7lb.

lazylockdowner · 29/09/2021 13:47

Predicted 9lbs at 39 weeks, was born at 41 weeks weighing 6lbs

EmWry · 29/09/2021 13:56

Girls were predicted to be 10lb plus, the boys 11lb plus. Scans showed, consistently, that I was carrying big babies.

Birth weights: B 7lb15oz. G 6lb15oz. B 7lb5oz. G 6lb7oz.

Hmm
EmWry · 29/09/2021 13:56

Should have said, they were all full term or there abouts.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 29/09/2021 14:03

Follow medical advice

How tall are you snd what kind of build?

My babies were predicted 8-9 pounds but were born at 42 weeks at just over 10 pounds

Consultant was not worried as I am 6ft with very wide hips/pelvis and a strong build (do I sound scary Grin)

So it depends on that as well

TwoBlueFish · 29/09/2021 14:03

Predicted big and was offered a c-section or induction at 37 weeks (not in the UK). I had the induction and he was 9.5lbs with large shoulders that got stuck so had an episiotomy as well. My first was born at 35 weeks and was nearly 7lbs.

Briony123 · 29/09/2021 14:04

My first was huge, totally unexpectedly. Born back to back and we both nearly died... I got the second one induced 10 days early so she was just a relatively tiny 8.5lb. Make sure you scrub the floor on hands and knees a lot, it means they are less likely to be back to back.

Seriously79 · 29/09/2021 14:22

Was told DS was going to be big, 9lbs ish and he was 10lbs.

Was told DD would be big too, but she was 8lbs 1oz.

SheABitSpicyToday · 29/09/2021 14:24

I’m 5ft 7 and built like a fridge Grin @MarleneDietrichsSmile

I have wide hips but also wide shoulders so if he takes after me that could be an issue. He’s also measuring very long like his dad. Dad is 6ft and baby’s femur length is off the scale. But so are the rest of his measurement so he’s in proportion at least.
