I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

OP posts:

Give over with calling us the left @MarshaBradyo. I’m just not a Tory voter. As centrist as they come. Hated corbyn.

Barbadossunset · 28/09/2021 10:46

agree to some extent but it might be more of a class issue

JesusMary yes but the class aspect works both ways. There was a huge fuss about the Tory MP who supposedly called a policeman a pleb which is the reverse of AR’s Etonian jibe.

MarshaBradyo · 28/09/2021 10:46

I think I’ve seen a few threads on the government funnily enough. It’s probably powered mn through their lower ad spend.

But this is about Rayner and Labour not listening again. Didn’t they say they’d listen more

antoniawhite · 28/09/2021 10:47
@MarshaBradyo so are we allowed to pull the government up on their appalling record ? Some of us suggest that this whole pathetic argument is distracting people from real issues that affect real people and we are accused of whataboutery. The government are inept yet AR is a danger to the fabric of Britain. Weird.
Completely agree with this.

Hoppinggreen · 28/09/2021 10:48

Yes I do
People who have said they don’t like her have been dismissed as Tory loving non Feminist snobs
I am a Northern non Tory voting Feminist and I’m not keen on her for a variety of reasons but her sex isn’t one of them. My main issue with her is that I think she is damaging Labours chances of Election

PersonaNonGarter · 28/09/2021 10:55

Your suggestion that women on MN are incapable of independent thought seems in line with current Labour Party thinking, and that too is likely to lose them votes.

This.

Angela Rayner isn’t winning any votes over from the Tories with this choice of language. Stop the wailing victim cries of misogyny. It’s pathetic. Women discussing a politician are perfectly capable of intelligent independent thought thanks. And most posters on here think - objectively - Angela Rayner does not further her political causes by describing anyone as Scum.

Well put. Raynor has a long way to go before she is suitable to lead the Labour Party.
RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 28/09/2021 11:01

Labour had its 2019 election result for one reason - Brexit

everyone i know who didn’t vote labour (or said they didn’t) in 2019 did so for reasons other than brexit

I don’t think labour will get in at the next general election….people seem to have incredibly short memories

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 11:02

No they haven’t. “I don’t like her”, absolutely no problem.

“Gob on a stick”, “she's absolutely vile, an uncouth loudmouth”, “She seems unhinged. Scary woman, power hungry, I know the type, if I'd meet her in a professional or personal context, I'd run, run, run” - sexist crap.

It's interesting isn't it, 'what have the Tories done for the North?!!!'

Well this for starters.

merrymouse · 28/09/2021 11:08

They should do, simply based on the fact that they will have been in opposition for 14 years and the Conservatives will be long past the point where they can blame anyone else for things that go wrong.

The problem is the number of seats they have to convert, strength of nationalist parties and lack of a Blair or even a Cameron who can persuade voters that they are offering something new.

Marguerite2000 · 28/09/2021 11:12

The golden rule is always to attack the policy, words, or actions, not the individual.
Ms Rayner doesn't seem to be mature enough to do that, so I wouldn't really consider her capable of any real authority herself.
Personally I wouldn't vote for her anyway, due to her belief that trans rights don't conflict with women's rights, and the way she mocked the man with the England flags and the white van. See, I can say that without verbally abusing Angela Rayner. Quite easy, really.

SueSaid · 28/09/2021 11:15

@Undeuxdrei

But *@JaniieJones* you are clearly a tory party supporter. Every thread you defend their actions. What are your opinions on the success that is Brexit ? In one thread you were praising the amazing deal with the EU secured by government. You were defending BJ shaking hands with people infected with covid. Is there anything you will criticise ? But no you will focus on what is essentially a storm in a teacup whilst Johnson blatantly lies and obfuscates in parliament.
I'm not an avid fan, I'll certainly point out their mistakes. Also I wouldn't ever defend Johnson's offensive comments. However they did a decent job getting a free trade deal with the EU when everyone on the hysterical brexit threads on mn were hiding in their bunkers predicting armageddon and they've done as well/as badly as every other home again regarding covid.

I would happily vote Labour if they didn't have a wet whiny leader and a thick sidekick wailing 'scum' and if they actually seemed to have a clue on important issues.

An opposition needs to be credible! I've no idea why Labour don't see this.

x2boys · 28/09/2021 11:17

Blair got in after many years because he was incredibly Charismatic, and there was an energy about, and he really did make people think that things s could better and they did for a while and then Iraq, i cant stand the man, because of his later actions, but i cant deny he had charm and charisma.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2021 11:19

the way she mocked the man with the England flags and the white van

That was Emily Thornberry.

I've seen people be horrid about the Tories so it neither surprises nor dismays me to see those terms used about Raynor. She can't insult people and expect not to be insulted back.

Very true. It's not rocket science is it.

fromdownwest · 28/09/2021 11:22

If Labour can not get into power after the absolute car crash that is Boris and Co, speaks volumes as to how un electable they are.

I sit firmly bewteen the 2 parties, the prospect of voting for Boris sends shivers down my spine.

However, the prospect of having Dianne Abbot and Keir Starmer in any position of power is even more worrying.

So, it is the lesser of 2 evils sadly.

The labour party lost me when D Milliband got booted out by the bullying militant unions. Downhill from there I am afraid.

Clavinova · 28/09/2021 11:23

Undeuxdrei
Clavinova what happened to the northern powerhouse?

Perhaps you could ask Vince Cable (Liberal Democrat) - he was the Secretary of State for Business 2010-2015.

Other suggestions include: too much focus on cities such as Manchester, and the EU's Excessive Deficit Procedure - reminding the UK Government to correct its budgetary deficit.

Exaclty - Right of Left and Left of Right.

He understood where to stand and did it well.

Barbadossunset · 28/09/2021 11:24

@WormYourHonour

Isn't YouGov one of those sites that pays bored people .05p to complete a survey? So most just select first answer and move in so they can bash out lots of surveys quickly?

Besides, that "Result" was based on less than 4000 respondents, barely a small village, let alone the "Whole of the UK"

Worm would you have said had it been a YouGov survey showing Labour ahead in the polls or critical of something a Tory MP said?
Clavinova · 28/09/2021 11:26

🥱

Jesus. Follow your own rulez hun. If she'd said 'We loathe and disagree with everything the Conservatives have done and here is how we will do better ' - no problem. 'Scum waaaaah' - abusive crap. HTH.

deadleaves · 28/09/2021 11:31

Not read the thread but I detest this dehumanisation of people who disagree with you. Politics needs less of this, not more. We need to be able to debate policy and ideas without personal attacks.

Plus, its really, really stupid to call the people you need to win over to vote for you, ' scum'. Calling voters 'deplorables' did not work for Hilary Clinton and calling voters ' scum' (or the people they vote for ;'scum') will not work here either.

Labour almost appear to have a deliberate strategy of narrowing, rather than widening, their voter base.

merrymouse · 28/09/2021 11:34

I think this is what happens when politicians are more focused on internal politics than winning elections.
