I think her comments today were spot on, although not really professional she makes a valid point.

OP posts:

It’s pathetic tbh. Labour are a shambles, We need a change of government but time and time again Labour end up looking more like inhabitants of a 6th form common room than a viable alternative.

David Lammey refused to answer how Labour would deal with an issue the other night on question time and just kept repeating that his job was to “oppose the Government” I mean wtf? But this just sums up the current Labour Party, I feel sorry for keir starmer, I quite like him but he seems to be presiding over a bunch of rebellious teenagers.

As for Jeremy Corbyn wading in on any issue that links to racism..... well!

Hoppinggreen · 27/09/2021 12:59

The problem with (some) Socialists is that they think they automatically have the moral high ground so can say or do anything for the good of the poor unenlightened non socialists

Barbadossunset · 27/09/2021 13:02

Where did she make these comments anyway? Was it on stage in a proper speech? Or at a reception with booze flowing?

I bet the Tories have called Labour members and voters all sorts, they’ve just not been called out on it by the media.

Iggly I wondered if there’d been booze flowing when she made those comments.
Re Tories calling voters all sorts - wasn’t there an MP who was accused of calling a policeman at Downing St a pleb? He was certainly called out on that.

OhWhyNot · 27/09/2021 13:03

Yes unfortunately many on the left do feel they hold the moral high ground Hmm

And love to tell others of this rather than do the ground work to make changes

MarshaBradyo · 27/09/2021 13:05

It’s a really unappealing take

Just insult rather than say what you’ll do that’s good.

We get enough on SM let alone a party making it their most memorable part of a conference

Tealightsandd · 27/09/2021 13:10

@MarshaBradyo

Now, unlike the other thread we're on, I agree completely with you here.

Tealightsandd · 27/09/2021 13:21

As for Jeremy Corbyn wading in on any issue that links to racism..... well

Yes. His supporters too.

Likewise Rayner accusing the Conservatives of misogyny.

Do Labour actually want to get elected? I had reasonable hopes for Starmer. Decided to give him the benefit of doubt wrt his association with Blair. I'll give him his very good crack down on the racism, but what about everything else? It's disappointing.

Whatever our political leanings, we all need a strong opposition.

Yep i agree, i think keirs an intelligent man, but its like he cant take charge and do what it takes to change things.
Evesgarden · 27/09/2021 13:43

@Leibham

Riled because they’re not used to being called out by an opposition hence their only defence is that she used the word scum, because she was right.

All anyone can focus on is their dislike of her common manner and the word scum. She is actually an opposition as opposed to Keir and the Labour Party in general.

Meanwhile Boris is busy ruining the country, making sure undergraduates pay more tax by lowering the salary threshold for repaying student loans for example. Making sure his rich mates and wealthy people are always prioritised.

No its not that - its because she is reducing the party to street fighting/slagging off matches.

Is this what we want our leaders to do? Because I don't. I want people to point out/call out the Tories but in a steadfast, methodical, intelligent way. When she is pressed to give her ideas on what should have happened - she responds with 'Its not my job to tell them what to do'.

So in other words she doesn't fucking know. She has no substance behind her. She was just show boating and this is what is infuriating me.

What she should have done is got up there and methodically pointed out what the Tories have done and what should have been done or what she would have done.

I'm really disappointed in the calibre of high profile women Labour MP. They do not represent me.

OhWhyNot · 27/09/2021 13:46

I think KS needs to have a reshuffle

Show authority. Sacking AR would cause too much of a kick back and a distraction

But he can show authority in other ways and this is appealing to the public, a leader in charge of their party

The party will always be divided but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a strong leadership

AlfonsoTheMango · 27/09/2021 13:48

I read recently that her mother couldn't read and would serve her shaving foam and dog food for lunch.

Rayner needs to stop whining about her childhood and show that she is an adult with ideas about how to lead both a political party and a country. So far, she has failed to do so.

AuntMasha · 27/09/2021 14:34

Can’t stand Boris and his cabinet of shambles, and am a habitual Labour voter, but I really hope that political rhetoric in this country doesn’t go down the same route as the US, where hurling insults and use of abusive language are now rife. Post Trumpian politics played a significant part in lowering the bar in this respect, unfortunately. Don’t want to see it here in the U.K. in any political party.

Ibelieveinghosts · 27/09/2021 15:39

Actually just read Keira’s comments about it not being right to say only women have a cervix. If the man cannot grasp a clear biological fact he really can’t be trusted to run a country.
HarrietsChariot · 27/09/2021 15:51

I find it comical that the Labour leadership are happy to throw around personal insults when a year or two ago they were whining in the House of Commons about the language the Tories were using being responsible for threats and attacks on MPs.

I bought as many copies of last year's Xmas #5 single as anyone, but I expect people who want to be elected into government to have a better line of argument than name-calling.

EwwSprouts · 27/09/2021 15:56

She could be an amazing role model in the position she is in. Agree with others she has no substance. If only she had taken a leaf out of Michelle Obama's book, 'when they go low we go high'. Nope AR chose lower.

Brainwave89 · 27/09/2021 16:29

I am a floating voter. I have voted labour previously, and could be persuaded to do so again. I think the performance of the current government has been woeful. Equally the opposition appears equally woeful. labour has not tackled anti-semitism and Angela Rayner comes across as slightly smug, hard left and having no empathy for those of us who are doing okay, but really do not want to pay significantly greater taxes under a Labour government. No Labour policies excite me and I cannot name more than 2/3 members of the Labour front bench. Feels like we need a new approach all round.

Barbadossunset · 27/09/2021 16:31

Angela isn’t the only Labour MP in the news for…er..plain speaking.
Claudia Webbe is in court today for threatening and harassing another woman and saying to her “You're a slag and you should be acid."
Not sure what ‘you should be acid’ means.

Thecurliestwurly · 27/09/2021 16:31

She is absolutely right about what she said - she just said it in her head only. I don' t think those sorts of comments will get votes and she needs to calm down.

Rosehip10 · 27/09/2021 16:37

@Brainwave89 It's the Tories who are banging up Tax (NI rise as of next year)....

Blossomtoes · 27/09/2021 16:42

Presumably you’re happy paying more tax under a Tory government @Brainwave89? Because if this lot stays in power, taxes won’t stay still.

rwalker · 27/09/2021 16:47

With the debt we've got left with because of covid common sense would tell you the money comes from somwhere. I think we will all have to pay irrespective of who's in power .

Thats shocking I can't believe she is still an active MP and she had the nerve to post on twitter about Sabina Nessa and violence against women.

What a mess.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2021 18:05

@Viviennemary

You really couldn't get any worse than her as far as I'm concerned and a lot of other folk too. Goodbye Labour Party. She has to go. And racist language too if she said that.
Oh I dont know about that. Last week Tory MP James Gray "joked" about sending a bomb to a female Labout MP's office. I consider that worse. Much worse.
TooBigForMyBoots · 27/09/2021 18:09

I would wonder about the reason why posters don't see James Gray's Gray's disgusting "joke" as worthy of comment, but I know why: hes a Tory man and they can say whatever they like.Angry
