... To suggest you read it if you still think Mumsnet is full of meanie transphobes? If you hide any thread that mentions gender identity? If you're politically homeless because politicians like Keir Starmer are too busy arguing about 'cervix havers' to actually lead the opposition against this shitshow government?

This is not the time for ostriching or #BeKind. It's the time to wake up to the harm gender identity politics is doing to our society, democracy and free speech and to so many vulnerable individuals. Especially children with autism and dysphoria and vulnerable women and children who are being browbeaten into allowing men to access their previously semi-safe spaces.

Stop relegating this stuff to FWR. The opposition parties are devouring themselves over this and losing women voters by the thousand. Meanwhile the Tories are merrily destroying our public services.

YANBU, but given that these are the type of folk screaming that JK Rowling is a raging transphobe but haven't read what she actually wrote, I doubt they're intellectually capable of reading a whole book.

ProfessorInkling · 26/09/2021 16:06

Yes, yes, yes. Which is to say, YANBU.

Witchesbelazy · 26/09/2021 16:07

I agree with you anyway but I’ve not read it before so I’ve just ordered on kindle as id like to support Helen even if it is a small contribution

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:10

I feel like if people just start really understanding what is behind this, we have a chance of getting Labour / the Libs / the Greens back focusing on what they are actually there for - trying to get into government and leading the country for the benefit of everyone, not just people with an estate to pass on to their children. And I'm saying that as one of those people!

Im so angry this weekend. And generally over this. Im furious voting will make no difference as theyre all falling over themselves to eradicate women.

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:13

Thank you @Witchesbelazy. This is a book that will benefit everyone simply by raising visibility of this issue. Too many normally intelligent, thoughtful people have swallowed the #NoDebate on this issue, when they would 100% have laughed at anyone who said, 'Trump is the true president #NoDebate' or 'Covid is a Hoax #NoDebate'

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:16

I know @LorenzoVonMatterhorn but now is the time to keep raising awareness Flowers It's such a good book but the price may well have put people off if they're curious but broke. If it makes even just a few more people aware of these issues it's worth it. I'm just going to keep bumping this.

I bought this earlier. I'm already aware and concerned but have been meaning to read it so the deal was well timed. I may still do what I intended to do and check whether my library has a copy (and request it if they don't).

Nichebitch · 26/09/2021 16:20

Not going to respond to this. Just came to say, if you don’t want people to patronise you, don’t patronise people. Meaning “if people just read this… or if people just understood that”. Well, some of us have read, understood, and still have a very different opinion to yours. We don’t need to be educated, and we would very much like this debate to stay on the board that was made for the rest of us to carry on enjoying mumsnet without having to read about this crap any more.

PineappleCakes · 26/09/2021 16:22

Thanks for the heads up @HereticFanjo

FOJN · 26/09/2021 16:22

YANBU I read it a couple of months ago. It's an excellent summary of the various issues at stake presented in a very readable style. It took me about 6 - 7 hours to read it all.

I give your thread less than an hour in AIBU!

Geamhradh · 26/09/2021 16:22

Downloaded it this morning. And totally agree.

kittenkipping · 26/09/2021 16:24

So glad you posted this. Bought and will read Smile

araiwa · 26/09/2021 16:26

You think people that hide fwr are going to spend money on a book about the same thing? Yabu

FlowerArranger · 26/09/2021 16:27

This isn't crap. It's a watershed for women's rights.

It's a travesty to confine this absolutely crucial topic to a graveyard board which is only read by posters who are already educated and/or invested.

PineappleCakes · 26/09/2021 16:29

I think people who are interested in society and politics will be interested to learn more about a modern day issue that massively impacts women. Especially given Starmer's latest TV interview and the implications on women's rights.

So thanks again OP, I've just bought it.

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:30

If it's here an hour and 6 or 7 people read into this I will be thrilled.

Well the opinion on this thread as expressed higher up is that you can't possibly be intellectually capable enough to read it, if you don't share the same views.
EishetChayil · 26/09/2021 16:32

Such a great book! Wish I'd bought it when it was 99p Grin

I sponsored a copy to be sent to my MP.

Which bits did you disagree with?

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:36

@Nichebitch if you have read and have a different opinion to me, that's absolutely your right. You don't have to read this or any other thread you don't want to read.

I do however question the motives of anyone who wants to stop discussion on this issue altogether, who uses #NoDebate to shut down discussion of a critical issue. Lots of people aren't getting the chance to read deeper in the first place because of the constant attempts to shut down / hide discussion of this issue.

So, for those people, they may be delighted to find this book on offer for 99p. It's a bargain.

OP posts:
HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 16:38

I'm not here to discuss the issues by the way - there's lots about the discussion on FWR and that is likely to get the thread piled on and pulled.

I'm here to tell people the book is 99p today if they are curious and want to read a really thoughtful analysis of the issues.

OhGiveUp · 26/09/2021 16:42

What is FWR and what is the book about?

DotDotDotDot · 26/09/2021 16:44

Thanks for the heads up. It's been on my wish list so I've just bought it now.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 26/09/2021 16:46

It wont let me buy the kindle copy. What am i doing wrong?
