... To suggest you read it if you still think Mumsnet is full of meanie transphobes? If you hide any thread that mentions gender identity? If you're politically homeless because politicians like Keir Starmer are too busy arguing about 'cervix havers' to actually lead the opposition against this shitshow government?

This is not the time for ostriching or #BeKind. It's the time to wake up to the harm gender identity politics is doing to our society, democracy and free speech and to so many vulnerable individuals. Especially children with autism and dysphoria and vulnerable women and children who are being browbeaten into allowing men to access their previously semi-safe spaces.

Stop relegating this stuff to FWR. The opposition parties are devouring themselves over this and losing women voters by the thousand. Meanwhile the Tories are merrily destroying our public services.

Another way to support this book and encourage people to read it would be to reserve it from your local library service. If it gets lots of reservations, libraries will need to order more copies, and it will be more visible on shelves to customers browsing.

I am a borrower at one of the larger library services, and there are only three copies on order at the moment.

Thanks. I’ve been intrigued by the politics around this. It’s like nothing else in the political sphere and brings up so many questions.

It really does @TheQueenOfDreams and one of the most worrying things is how unwilling mainstream media has been to report on this. This is the same media we need to be asking difficult questions to Boris and the Tories. They just don't seem to want to ask difficult questions full stop but we need them to more than ever.

Helen Joyce has ovaries of steel!

Perhaps someone should send a copy to Keir Starmer?

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 26/09/2021 18:19

Well said OP

@colouringindoors if you have a phone / tablet / PC there is a kindle app for all of them. I actually never bother using my kindle except on holiday - I mostly read on phone or tablet Smile

You can download a Kindle app if you have a device to read on.

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/09/2021 18:42

Thanks OP. I've ordered it from my library, and I've been waiting 2 months so far. I might email my MP as I know she was given a copy and sadly I'm damn sure she won't read it. I'll ask her to donate it to our library.

FightingtheFoo · 26/09/2021 18:44

I'm very up to date on the debate via MN, social media etc and only bought it because I wanted to support Helen Joyce and I learned a ton - it's really brilliant.

Bellablahhole · 26/09/2021 18:50

Thanks OP. It's been on my wish list for a while. Now purchased!

EishetChayil · 26/09/2021 18:54

@Gorl

I hide every thread mentioning gender identity because I don’t want to read what transphobes have to say, so not sure your advice is any good to me.

For fucks sake, we are not transphobes. Wake up! That sort of mud-slinging just doesn't slide anymore.

Look at what this ideology is doing. Reducing us to "bodies with vaginas", sterilising children, breaking up families and friendship groups, causing a rise in homophobia.

Whereareyourshoes · 26/09/2021 19:11

Thank you for sharing. I had purchased a hardback copy but have bought on kindle to read again after passing on my original copy.

Poppydoppy18 · 26/09/2021 19:14

I looked it up on Apple Books but unfortunately it was £9. Will definitely buy it if it’s on sale at some point. Thanks for the recommendation!

herculesoffline · 26/09/2021 19:15
@CorrBlimeyGG it is possible to care about more than one thing at a time, you know...

Don't you care about the vulnerable members of society such as female prisoners, rape victims and those experiencing domestic violence (who are primarily from lower socio-economic sections of society) being forced to share female spaces with any men who says they are a woman, including male sex offenders?
Possible to care about more than one thing... And yet not possible to support all women's rights, including those of trans women?

EstuaryBird · 26/09/2021 19:33

Thank you, OP. Purchased. I need to understand this, I’m old and it’s outside my life experience.

PickAChew · 26/09/2021 19:46

@herculesoffline by not allowing female only spaces, the rights of all women would not be supported.

HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 19:46

Bumping this because it's a bargain at 99p

OP posts:
HereticFanjo · 26/09/2021 19:47

@Poppydoppy18 for 99p I would probably get it and just read it on the kindle app. It really is a worthwhile read.

Do you do sales for a living heratic 😀

You’re doing an awesome job, i bought it earlier but I’m looking forward to reading it following your recommendation

I quite often see comments telling people to ‘educate themselves’ its funny that people are cheesed off by my wanting to do exactly that

I should @RufustheBadgeringReindeer sadly I'm not in sales and not on commission! :-D It's just such a genuinely fascinating book - and yes, as you say, ironically it's all about 'educating ourselves'. Sadly I think there are some people who don't want ANYONE educated about this issue because behind all the threats and misogyny there's nothing of substance. The idea that we can self-identify as anything we want and DEMAND that the world falls into line behind our delusion would be laughable but for the fact it has gripped political parties / institutions / universities etc.

I identify as a twenty year old model but sadly the rest of the world stubbornly and obnoxiously continues to see me as a plump, peri-menopausal woman. It's literal violence I tell ya!

Meanwhile, Keir and co are falling over themselves to prop up this insanity while Boris and cronies dismantle the health service without scrutiny. You literally couldn't make it up.

It is an interesting insight into how ideas - even mad ones - go viral. See QAnon - I wonder what the next mass delusion will be?

@herculesoffline I would be interested in your response to my question:

"Don't you care about the vulnerable members of society such as female prisoners, rape victims and those experiencing domestic violence (who are primarily from lower socio-economic sections of society) being forced to share female spaces with any men who says they are a woman, including male sex offenders?"

I suspect you won't actually answer the question though...

OhGiveUp · 26/09/2021 20:24

Thanks OP. I've just downloaded it and I'll get stuck into it tomorrow.
