He can't breathe.

He was poorly on weds Eve with a temp. I actually posted on here about it. He's not got better. Continuous cough
Did a test on Friday. No result yet. Called 11 because we hasn't eaten for 5 days. Continuous temp for 5 days. He's so poorly. Has no energy to even sit up and watch the telly.

111 asked us to take him to emergency care
Here.nkw waiting to be seen. He can't catch his breath. He's my only child, my PFB. I can't cope. Husband isn't allowed to be with us. I'm all alone.

Hope he’s feeling better soon x

BlueSuffragette · 27/09/2021 19:48

Much love to Freddie and his wonderfully caring mum. He's in the right place and sounds like he's on the mend. My eldest had pneumonia twice before she was18months old. I was in bits and so very frightened. The hospital staff did a wonderful job both times. She is 21 soon and I count my blessings that she fully recovered. Lots of love and best wishes to you and young Freddie. xxx

shouldistop · 27/09/2021 19:51

How is Freddie today op?

barefootcook · 27/09/2021 19:53

Hand in there Freddie from another Freddie in New Zealand.

Humpthree · 27/09/2021 20:39

Hiya,

He's not responding as well to the antibiotics as they had hoped so they are going to start a different type that covers a broader range. He's been on an IV line to get his fluids up and he needs to continue with the o2 mask.

His temp is still rising so they are giving para and ibru to help that. They will be doing a blood test soon to see if the infection score has come down from the new antibiotics.

I am worried but the staff are not. The nurse in charge says she sees 10 kids like Freddie a week and he's very typical.

He just didn't seem to be getting better :'(

I can see it must be really concerning for you OP, but if the staff aren't worried that's really good.

Hopefully the new antibiotics will get to work soon and he'll be on the mend. Have you got enough stuff to keep you looked after while you're in with him? It must be extra hard to look after yourself at the moment with covid regs still in place in most hospitals.

antoniawhite · 27/09/2021 20:44

Sending a hug. You can trust what the staff tell you. Thank goodness he’s in a place where they can tailor antibioticsfor him, poor little chap. Take care of yourself too, OP xx

Shellfishblastard · 27/09/2021 23:51

Hopefully the new meds are working already Flowers

Hope you and Freddie have a settled night tonight OP. Thinking of you. It’s horrible staying in a hospital, hopefully you will manage to get some sleep

Notimeforaname · 27/09/2021 23:56

Thinking of you op.
Hoping you both get a good nights sleep and are stronger in the morning!! Hugs x

veryblearyeyed · 28/09/2021 02:25

Sorry to read the update, but it’s good that the staff aren’t overly concerned. Hope you both manage to get some sleep and the new ABs start doing their stuff by the morning. Flowers

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 28/09/2021 03:41

Ah hope you and Freddie are getting some sleep/ rest

softplay999 · 28/09/2021 05:11

Good morning, how is little Freddie today? Have been thinking about you both Thanks

BlackAlys · 28/09/2021 06:13

Hope Freddie is better OP Thanks

Shellfishblastard · 28/09/2021 09:41

Hope you have had a settled night and Freddie is ok Flowers

hamstersarse · 28/09/2021 09:44

I hope Freddie is improving

My DS who is 19 had a LOT of this when he was Freddie's age. It is terrifying. But he is here, well and making his way in life. I am sure the doctors and nurses will ensure Freddie is the same.

WandaVision2 · 28/09/2021 13:12

Have you pushed for a PCR? I’m really surprised they only did a lateral flow, they’re not very accurate

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 28/09/2021 14:18

Oh op. You must have been so scared. I'm so glad he's in the right place and you did everything you thought right for him. From what we know about covid, it sounds very unlikely and someone Freddie's age is extremely unilikely to be very ill from covid.

Far more likely to be chester infection/pneumonia. They will monitor him regularly and it'll take time but he'll get there. Please update us. Thinking of you.

Humpthree · 28/09/2021 17:10

Sorry, I updated this morning, but didnt hit post and I've just come on to update and found this morning's update wasn't there!

Good news!!

This is the update from this morning:

Freddie wasn't responding as well to the antibiotics as they had hoped so they gave him a different type that covers a broader range. And he's on an IV line to keep his fluids up.

The Consultant has been round, they are testing his cultures to work out what specific bug it is that's caused the punomia and once they've found out, they might tweek the antibiotics again so we can fight it directly. We are gonna be in a for a few more days for sure. It really depends on how long he still needs to be on oxygen.

His latest blood work have shown his infection rate has halved since we bough him in on Sunday, it's still very high but he's had a little play this morning so Its lovely to see him perking up!

He's currently still relying on the oxygen but once he is off and he responds well to the best antibiotics, they'll look at us being able to go home, with his cannula still in, and coming back once a day for the meds.

They'll need us back for x-rays and check ups regularly to make sure all the gunk in his lungs is shifting and he will probably have a cough for up to 6 months!!

But the consultant is expecting a full recovery and he should be back to normal soon!

Humpthree · 28/09/2021 17:11

And then the latest update from just a few mins ago:

Update from the consultant:

They've found the strain of bacteria he has: Streptococcus pneumoniae so it's not contagious or anything and he is on the perfect antibiotics to treat that specific Infection.

He still needs constant oxygen, but once his temperature is stable for 48-72 hours, and he no longer needs to be on the oxygen, we will get to go home and they will be able to give him oral antibiotics instead of through the cannula. So we are in for the next 4 days at a minimum but it's really positive!!

He's also been playing with blocks this afternoon. Colouring and he even went for a little walk to the loo and brushed his teggies!!

Gladioli23 · 28/09/2021 17:24

That sounds really positive - I'm so glad to hear that he's on the mend now. You must be really relieved! Wishing you both all the best!
