He can't breathe.

He was poorly on weds Eve with a temp. I actually posted on here about it. He's not got better. Continuous cough
Did a test on Friday. No result yet. Called 11 because we hasn't eaten for 5 days. Continuous temp for 5 days. He's so poorly. Has no energy to even sit up and watch the telly.

111 asked us to take him to emergency care
Here.nkw waiting to be seen. He can't catch his breath. He's my only child, my PFB. I can't cope. Husband isn't allowed to be with us. I'm all alone.

I have prayed for little Freddie, and will keep adding him to my prayers until he is better.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 26/09/2021 17:19

OP hope freddie is OK. If it's any help my newborn developed breathing difficulties at 3 hours post birth. He had to have a barrage of tests including a lumbar puncture. It was pneumonia - he made a full recovery and was home in 5 days. It's extremely scary when this sort of thing happens but hopefully Freddie will bounce back

HarlanPepper · 26/09/2021 17:19

Thinking of you and Freddie. Hope he gets better really soon. x

barnanabas · 26/09/2021 17:20

Holding you and Freddie in my thoughts, and adding to the chorus of voices saying that he is in the right place and that kids go downhill very quickly and also recover quickly.

Also, please don't feel guilty. You did the right things, and you're getting him the help he needs. I had a similar type of situation with my son when he was one - spoke to several people and saw the GP over the week as he wasn't well, then he declined suddenly one afternoon and by the time I got him to hospital he was going rapidly downhill and needed the crash team. I couldn't have known, and neither could you.
That was mid-afternoon. They got IV antibiotics into him and his temperature down and he was sitting up eating dinner a few hours later.

Take care of yourself, and your lovely boy.

waterrat · 26/09/2021 17:21

Hi Op. My daughter is 7. When she was 5 we had the exact same situation. I had her unwell at home for a few days then she began to struggle for breath..it was pneumonia in both Lungs..one of the worst experiences of my life.

She did develop sepsis but because we were on the ward she was fine. They pumped her with antibiotics and a week later she skipped out of thr ward. When she had arrived she was without a doubt the sickest child in the ward..oxygen all day and night and barely speaking.

Good luck you are in excellent hands and we can treat pneumonia thank god with antibiotics and your boy will bounce back within a few days. It took her a while to fully recover but by a week she was returning yo normal.

Look after yourself and try to get home to sleep sometimes.

waterrat · 26/09/2021 17:22

I also felt sick with guilt that I hadn't brought her in sooner..but kids get sick all the time and it's normal to not think it's serious.

BrutusMcDogface · 26/09/2021 17:25

Get well soon, little Freddie! ❤️

Totorosfluffytummy · 26/09/2021 17:26

Sending love & best wishes for you and Freddie xx ❤️

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 26/09/2021 17:26

You've done what they said you needed to do so don't blame yourself! The fact that he's been diagnosed within I guess about 3 hours of you getting to hospital is brilliant and he'll be bouncing around again soon enough I'm sure.

Mum guilt sucks!

SquigglePigs · 26/09/2021 17:29

Love and hugs to you all. Oxygen will help him feel better. Hope he picks up soon x

DeepaBeesKit · 26/09/2021 17:32

I know it's really scary but its surprisingly common (even pre covid) for young kids to need some breathing support with various winter respiratory conditions - croup, RSV, various other viruses that can cause bronchiolitis etc. They are nearly always right as rain again after a few days.

Your son is in the best place.

hayley013 · 26/09/2021 17:32

Hope Freddie is feeling lots better soon, it is absolutely no way your fault, you have got him there today and he is being cared for in the best place.

Toddlers are so resilient, but such a worry at times. Hope you're okay x

Humpthree · 26/09/2021 18:13

He's had his first bout of antibiotics a couple of hours ago and has perked up a lot. You're right, He's in the best place and they are looking after him well.

He's had a few bites of sandwich, first bit of food in 5 days, and a few crisps!! He's responsive and happily snuggled into me watching cbeebies on his tablet

MargaretThursday · 26/09/2021 18:50

That was me aged 3yo.
Dm didn't think I'd survive the journey to hospital 40 minutes away.

Actually I remember it fairly well, and don't particularly remember feeling ill.
I was in hospital 10 says, but did recover quite quickly.
