We are now being called bodies with vaginas by one of the top medical journals in the land

YANBU the word is woman
YABU shut up VAGINA haver

This will probably get shunted back to the naughty corner. But this is something women need to know. Coming soon to a GP surgery near you. As a vagina haver you may be invited for a cervical smear.

This is what the erasure of women looks like. Splayed on the front cover of the journal read by every medic in the land.

I've noticed this @Whitefire
Same as when politicians this week have been asked about women's rights, and they've immediately brought up transgender issues.
It's almost like there's an agenda.

Naunet · 25/09/2021 09:49

@Whitefire

I find it very interesting that the very first comment was an accusation of "trans bashing" , it seems any discussion about women immediately means transphobic.
It’s exactly the same as feminists being accused of being man haters. If women demand anything, they’re accused of hate.
TidyDancer · 25/09/2021 09:56

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

Here we go with the trans bashing again.

Nobody is trying to erase women. They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary.

There, fixed it for you.

I find it so hard to believe anyone really thinks like this tbh. It's such a ridiculous position to take that I have to assume a lot of this rubbish is a parody.
Tomnooktoldmeto · 25/09/2021 09:58

Misogyny at its finest once again!

honeyytoast · 25/09/2021 10:00

Cervical smears are important. It’s important that every biological woman has one even if they’re reluctant because they identify differently, are struggling psychologically with gender etc

Did the same journal refer to men as prostate Havers or as men?

Funny how we aren’t hearing about men labelled as people with penises, nope it’s just identifying a women as an adult human female which is trans bashing.

Theluggage15 · 25/09/2021 10:02

Trapped in a body!! Hahaha. Yes I’m trapped in my chubby body when I actually should be in the body of a supermodel. Really fed up of pandering to this shit.

WatchWait · 25/09/2021 10:07

It really bothers me that kids are being taught this gender stuff. One of mine was what we termed tomboy in a previous era (come to think of it, so was I)
I fear that her toddler daughter might be similar to her mother, and get pulled into thinking that she is in fact a boy.
It's really frightening.

Yogsgirl · 25/09/2021 10:08

Surely trans-women don't want to be known as bodies with vaginas either?

Sloth66 · 25/09/2021 10:10

YANBU

Naunet · 25/09/2021 10:10

@Yogsgirl

That would be transmen.

The reason why the word woman isn’t used though, is because men who identify as women, wouldn’t be included, because they don’t have a vagina. And we can offend men, or use the word “woman” to describe actual females, it has to only be used when it includes males too.

Yogsgirl · 25/09/2021 10:15

Yes, trans-men as well, but I was thinking more of trans-women who have had a false vagina created?

WatchWait · 25/09/2021 10:19

Shit, that's it, isn't it @naunet?!

If transwomen must be referred to as women, then it needs to be clear that the women being referred to in the article are....well what exactly?
Otherwise transwomen (henceforth to be known as women) might think they need to get cervical screening.

So women-that-are-not-transwomen need to be called something else. Hence the descriptors of their bodies.

Otherwise you get women and c*s women, because transpeople don't like the trans descriptor.

Is that right? Crikey!

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 25/09/2021 10:20

So let's get this straight:

Men are 'men'
Transwomen are 'women'
Actual women are 'bodies with vaginas'.

Nope, no misogyny or erasure going on here... Hmm

As someone on the other thread said: We cannot allow ourselves to be spoken about in this way.

Lokdok · 25/09/2021 10:21

Great. If it helps encourage someone to have a smear test, maybe a young person grappling with their gender identity or a trans man, then that's a good thing. I don't mind being called a vagina haver, if that will literally save someone else's life. It's disgusting that this bothers you, and Mumsnet is fast becoming a transphobic cess pool.

EmRata95 · 25/09/2021 10:21

This has gone too far. The worlds population is made up of biological women, and biological men.

Those who say they fall into neither category need therapy.

There i said it

No, mumsnet is anonymous, so real women are able to say what they really think without fear of being threatened.
flashpaper · 25/09/2021 10:23

@WoozySnoozy

It's a bit off being called a body as well really. But I guess it's a medical thing.
Definitely not a medical thing. We certainly don't go around in my department saying "body with xyz". We're actively discouraged from describing people as their ailment, so rather than "the fractured neck of femur" we would say "the woman with the fractured neck of femur". The only department I can think of where "body with xyz" might be used as a descriptor is the mortuary.

I'd expect a transperson to have the common sense to realise that they will probably still have the specific health concerns related to their original sex, without dehumanising terminology.
DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 25/09/2021 10:26

It fucks me off.

But it's honest. What men care about is the vagina. And any other orifice that will take a penis. And maybe, occasionally, the uterus.

Skysblue · 25/09/2021 10:29

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned 🤣🤣 there is no such thing as a woman trapped in a man’s body or vice versa. That’s just total nonsense.

Campervan69 · 25/09/2021 10:30

YANBU

I also note it is always fine to talk about men but women are reduced to their bodily functions. Disgusting and sexist.

It 'disgusts' me that this doesn't bother you tbh.

How will you being referred to as a 'body with a vagina' save a trans man's life? What ridiculous hyperbole. Surely being referred to as a 'body with a vagina' would be very triggering for a transman as it would remind them that they are actually still female after all?

Also, are you so worried about the fact that, when discussing prostate cancer, the word always used is 'men'?

TableFlowerss · 25/09/2021 10:34

@MaxNormal

They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies

That is a belief system, and should not be conflated with medical reality.
