We are now being called bodies with vaginas by one of the top medical journals in the land

YANBU the word is woman
YABU shut up VAGINA haver

This will probably get shunted back to the naughty corner. But this is something women need to know. Coming soon to a GP surgery near you. As a vagina haver you may be invited for a cervical smear.

This is what the erasure of women looks like. Splayed on the front cover of the journal read by every medic in the land.

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

Here we go with the trans bashing again.

Nobody is trying to erase women. They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary.

There, fixed it for you.

Gender is a made up social concept, will stick to biological sex and breaking down the social barriers of what's seen as masculine and feminine thanks.
Serenissima21 · 25/09/2021 08:07

It's a bit off being called a body as well really. But I guess it's a medical thing.
No, it's a dehumanizing thing. And they only do it for women, not men.

Babdoc · 25/09/2021 08:08

Using the word “women” to describe women is not “trans bashing”. Stop being ridiculous.
You cannot demand that the whole world changes the meaning of words, or erases words, to pander to an unscientific belief system which the majority of the world does not share.
We need a word that describes the oppressed sex class of females, and does not include men in the definition.
You need a word for people who identify as the opposite sex.
Our word is women. We are keeping it.
Your word is transgender. You are likewise welcome to keep that.

EmeraldShamrock · 25/09/2021 08:08

Yanbu.
Absolute madness.
I heard a woman describing her male born boyfriend as a cis-male/cis-female relationship seriously he is a man, you're a woman, leave the cis out please.

Rainbowheart1 · 25/09/2021 08:08

When do we start erasing the term man?

EmeraldRaine · 25/09/2021 08:08

Yeah you're not supposed to say a woman trapped in a man's body anymore or vice versa.

Why was it okay for them to refer to men rather than bodies with prostrate glands recently then? Why is it only women that aren't allowed to be called women?

Do you notice men are never described as ejaculators or prostate havers? Open up your eyes ffs. It is not trans bashing for 51% of the world's population to not want to be reduced to a walking vagina. Wtf is wrong with you?

They never do this to men.

Brownsnail · 25/09/2021 08:09

Actually it needs to be women and transmen, or men and transwomen.
See how confusing it is.
It's like the emperor's new clothes.

eurochick · 25/09/2021 08:10

Twitter is on fire on this. There is already a long thread on MN from last night. Let me see if I can find it.

Rainbowheart1 · 25/09/2021 08:10

A women trapped in a mans body…how transphobic of you!

You always talk such sense @Babdoc
maddening · 25/09/2021 08:13

Transwomen don't have vaginas, it is transmen.

However, yanbu, transmen should accept their biological reality instead of expecting the word woman to be dropped from medical and legal terminology to fit their ideological opt out from their sex.

If it needs to be inclusive it should be women and people with vaginas, and if that is too clunky then so be it, clunky is inclusive of women and those that identify other to their sex (transmen and all the binary variations).

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2021 08:14

Yanbu

Woman just means adult human female.

Its a sex descriptor of the human species. Female could mean anything. Dogs, cats, fish. Woman denoted the age, sex and species.

It has nothing to do with identity. It males no judgement or statement abkut identity. Adult human female os inclusive of all and no gender identities of the adult human females.

Rhubarbsoup · 25/09/2021 08:15

It's outrageous, hopefully the more ridiculous this gets the more people will see it for what it is.

They should dehumanise the men too then
maddening · 25/09/2021 08:20

Also from the lancer this year = men have prostates, not tripping over themselves to be inclusive here!

I hope there were protests about that too
dementedma · 25/09/2021 08:24

Good thread on feminism board on this.

EdgeOfTheSky · 25/09/2021 08:29

The phrase occurs within an article about an exhibition.

The article definitely does not attempt to erase women and the phrase is not used in order to be inclusive of trans people. It is a sidelong ironic reference to the misogyny of science and culture against menstruation.

The Lancet decided it would be good to plaster this phrase across the front cover. Doing a disservice to Sophia Davies who write the article, and to women.

It is nothing to do with being transphobic, @amijustparanoidorjuststoned , for women to be labelled in the front cover of a medical journal as ‘bodies with vaginas’. Women have legitimate concerns, life and death concerns actually, about being seen as their sexual parts. Surely anyone cjncrhned about the importance of someone’s identity can understand that basically being portrayed as a cunt is ‘midi de tidying’ that human being.

So check your level of paranoia and THC before weirding the ‘trans bashing’ schtick.

EdgeOfTheSky · 25/09/2021 08:31

‘Mis-identifying that human…’

happengown · 25/09/2021 08:35

Such dehumanising language.
