We are now being called bodies with vaginas by one of the top medical journals in the land

YANBU the word is woman
YABU shut up VAGINA haver

This will probably get shunted back to the naughty corner. But this is something women need to know. Coming soon to a GP surgery near you. As a vagina haver you may be invited for a cervical smear.

This is what the erasure of women looks like. Splayed on the front cover of the journal read by every medic in the land.

The medical profession has a history of being oppressive to women. This is an example. The Lancet should apologise for their misogyny. They don’t treat men in the same way. It is clear discrimination and erasure of women. Any women who doesn’t see this should ask themselves why they can’t see the oppression which is there in concrete in front of them.

SpindleWorld · 25/09/2021 08:37

women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary

That may well get you burnt as a heretic on dear old twitter these days.

rc22 · 25/09/2021 08:39

As long as they also now refer to "bodies with penises" rather than men, I'm not worried.

Palladin · 25/09/2021 08:41

It's frightening when a previously reliable medical journal succumbs to misogynistic and scientifically bizarre ideology. It reminds me of the direction a fraction of the medical profession took in Nazi-Germany.

purplesequins · 25/09/2021 08:42

@Serenissima21

They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies Nobody is trapped in a body. We are our bodies. This is ridiculous and is also now considered to be transphobic. Do try and keep up.

This whole movement scares me!! Why are terms such as birthing parent and chest feeding being introduced into the medical profession to appease a tiny minority of vocal activists! WOMAN GIRL FEMALE SHE HER - I am not interested in neutral terms and I don’t care who takes offence, I don’t want my gender erased!!!!

EdgeOfTheSky · 25/09/2021 08:49

@rc22

But it isn’t the same, is it?

Men are not (often) at risk from violent women who see them as bodies with vaginas to assault and rape.

Women are.

It is a real danger.

FreeBritnee · 25/09/2021 08:54

That’s right, ‘trans bashing’ 🤣🤣

We are not allowed to feel upset at being described by our body parts. Disabled individuals have complained for years at being described as their conditions. The ‘Downs child’ as opposed to the child that has Down’s syndrome. It’s othering.

I am not a vagina or uterus haver. I’m a woman. Men are not penis havers. There has to be a better way to be inclusive without being offensive. It’s not good enough to force people to comply by threatening to get them sacked. That sounds more like terrorism than inclusivity.

CorrBlimeyGG · 25/09/2021 08:55

The article does refer to women. Why would you start this thread without bothering to check your facts?

Caterinasballerinas · 25/09/2021 08:57

I have no idea what the AND should be, but it should definitely be women AND vagina havers in this example. Like someone said, I’d rather read something which was a little cluncky than erased my own sex.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/09/2021 09:01

It does refer to in the article women but OP is entirely correct that the front cover of The Lancet which is the page that will be seen by the majority of ppl says “bodies with vaginas”

Now they may have thought they were being oh so clever with their click baity cover but in the present climate, it’s absolutely tone deaf and idiotic

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/09/2021 09:02

@AtlasPine

Maybe they are trying to be exclusive of women in men’s bodies?

I don’t like the wording but agree that everyone with a vagina, whatever they identify as, needs to be included in screening programmes.

It's an article about menstruation, I guarantee they are not talking g about Women trapped in mens bodies as mens bodies do not menstruate.

If they wanted to be inclusive then they could have used 'women and transmen' in the title. Instead they reduced women to 'Bodies with an extra hole'.

OP isn't complaining about the article but the Lancet's choice of cover.
TheMarzipanDildo · 25/09/2021 09:16

Trans men won’t get much from the trans rights movement will they? Men’s prison, changing rooms, toilets, no access to women’s refuges etc etc. So let’s be nice to them and refer to them as “bodies with vaginas” because that’s lovely and humane. Hmm

Who does this benefit? At least “women and trans men and non binary biological females with vaginas” (while ignoring the fact that woman is a sex class) wouldn’t make the writer sound like a serial killer.

Naunet · 25/09/2021 09:21

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

Here we go with the trans bashing again.

Nobody is trying to erase women. They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary.

There, fixed it for you.

Where was trans even mentioned? Or are you suggesting that women, wanting to be called women, are transphobic? Because that’s a you problem - idiotic, selfish and arrogant beyond belief to believe you get to change how women refer to themselves.
flippertyop · 25/09/2021 09:22

How can any female be accepting of this complete erasure of us as a sex class? I just don't get it

Bollocks to that. Its WOMAN.

There fixed it for you.

Naunet · 25/09/2021 09:24
@amijustparanoidorjuststoned if that's the case, why then is The Lancet running a major piece on "bodies with vaginas" - note not even 'people with vaginas' but last week were happily talking about 'men with prostate cancer' - not not people with prostate cancer let alone bodies with prostrates
It’s such an amazing double standard isn’t it? And ironically shows they know exactly who the males are, because they’re the ones being pandered to.

Yogsgirl · 25/09/2021 09:26

OFGS! There's no such thing as a woman trapped in a man's body or vice versa!

Naunet · 25/09/2021 09:29

women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binar

The “experts”, Mermaids, have very clearly said no one is born in the wrong body. Why are you claiming they are?

ChattyLion · 25/09/2021 09:30

How dare they. Absolute misogynistic bastards. They are not safe to be around women or advising on their medical care, with those attitudes.

venus22 · 25/09/2021 09:32

@Babdoc

Using the word “women” to describe women is not “trans bashing”. Stop being ridiculous. You cannot demand that the whole world changes the meaning of words, or erases words, to pander to an unscientific belief system which the majority of the world does not share. We need a word that describes the oppressed sex class of females, and does not include men in the definition. You need a word for people who identify as the opposite sex. Our word is women. We are keeping it. Your word is transgender. You are likewise welcome to keep that.
This.......beautifully put.

If you don't like "trans bashing", then maybe don't do it? Nobody in this thread including the OP has mentioned anything about trans people into you popped up.

We're talking about dehumanising language deployed and weaponised against women - and against trans men and nonbinary and othergendered/othersexed people with traditionally female anatomy, if you like.

The upset is not about the article but about the editorial decision which places this dehumanising quote on the front cover.

Bodies with vaginas is the language used by porn addled men and is no better than the c word. It's extremist language and no better than that used by incels

Whitefire · 25/09/2021 09:45

I find it very interesting that the very first comment was an accusation of "trans bashing" , it seems any discussion about women immediately means transphobic.
