I know that but essential workers such as doctors and nurses have to be given priority as it will cost lives otherwise if operations are cancelled and delayed etc.

vera99 · 24/09/2021 18:16

Let's not forget this is a function of this government's incompetence and confused messaging and an over active media highlighting some BP supply issues. Turns out that Brexit wasn't done by a long shot and is the gift that keeps on taking.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 24/09/2021 18:16

The roads here have been gridlocked and the traffic chaotic. I have filled up today as my light was on and I had to make a longish motorway journey, so it was a necessary buy. My electric car is on order but the manufacture slot keeps getting put back Hmm

BSideBaby · 24/09/2021 18:16

My boss thinks I'm psychic because I filled up the work van a couple of days ago (because it was empty).

Both of my own cars are a quarter full and will stay that way because I'm not selfish sheep and all this will have blown over by the end of the weekend.

Somethingsnappy · 24/09/2021 18:17

@Zeal

Oh fuck.

It is going to be lovely and warm over the weekend and I was going to fill up my petrol mower, hedge cutter and brush cutter and do lots and lots of mowing and strimming working really, really hard.

I guess I will have to think of something else to do now outside in the sunshine. Drat.

Oh no! I'm sorry, that sucks.

Picnic and Pimms instead?

whynotwhatknot · 24/09/2021 18:18

why dont they ban filling up cans for now

Kona84 · 24/09/2021 18:18

I fuelled up today I had quarter of a tank left.
But I’m 36 weeks pregnant and need my car to get around at the moment
2 local stations were sold out by lunchtime today so had to use a service station.

kristplankook · 24/09/2021 18:19

I agree to some extent that if there were to be a genuine shortage that certain professions should get priority. Just where do you draw the line though? Lots can work from home but many can't.

I'm a social worker and if I ran out of petrol I wouldn't be able to go out to my clients but I managed with phone assessments for months in the early days of Covid so could again for most clients at least.

I'm more worried about carers not being able to get to the clients - and the lack of carers full stop.

Everything is shit at the moment. Cheers Brexit.

Tangledtresses · 24/09/2021 18:19

Ours just closed and told all panic twats to fuck off 😀
They still have petrol but it was getting stupid

XenoBitch · 24/09/2021 18:19

Doctors and nurses can't do their jobs without the countless other NHS staff too, many of which are not patient facing at all.
ivfbabymomma1 · 24/09/2021 18:20

Today was my payday (full tank day) and I can't get any so I have like 30 miles left in my tank 😢

CurryLover55 · 24/09/2021 18:21

I have about a quarter of a tank left & usually only travel very short distances but I’m concerned for DH who is a driving instructor. The traffic today has been insane. I also think that filling cans with fuel shouldn’t be allowed.

Tangledtresses · 24/09/2021 18:21

The bloody news and Shiite papers need to stop scare mongering

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 18:22

So genuine question….

If you know there’s no fuel shortage or shortage of drivers getting the fuel where it needs to be, how do you know this considering the media is scaremongering.

Serious genuine question because I want to know.

ninnynonny · 24/09/2021 18:23

@linelgreen

We were caught out years ago with the last petrol supply issue so today filled both mine and Oh cars up and also took the kids cars and filled them up so if we run out we could always use theirs as they are at Uni so not taken cars with them. Petrol is something that does not go off so will not be wasted as it will get used and cannot imagine what we would do without a car to use as public transport is terrible here.
So, at least 4 cars filled up? Is this normal for you, because I would genuinely call that selfish panic buying
Cyw2018 · 24/09/2021 18:24

Totally agree. If 3 lockdowns haven't taught people how wide and varied "essential workers" are and how many 'cogs in the wheel' there are in society then nothing will (and I say this as a paramedic).

Moonface123 · 24/09/2021 18:25

Once again down to the good old media. I refuse to watch the news or buy newspapers, it is so damaging what they do and how they get away with it.

vera99 · 24/09/2021 18:26

Just imagine how much worse this would be if Corbyn had won eh... (irony warning).

OhGiveUp · 24/09/2021 18:27

There's more essential workers than doctors, nurses and NHS staff.

bozzabollix · 24/09/2021 18:27

I’ve have filled up both cars today, however my husband is a doctor and can’t be dicking about with no fuel. If he canes through the fuel in one he gets the other, and I get the pushbike. He does a fair few miles as covers three hospitals.

Rather than blame other drivers, most of whom will have good reasons for needing fuel, why aren’t we looking at the reasons why we in the UK are suffering this and not anyone else, then blaming the government for this shit show. Blaming over drivers just let’s them off the hook and it’s pissing me right off.

Time for the government to bring about the land of ambrosia and honey which they assured was ours post Brexit.

hedgehogger1 · 24/09/2021 18:27

Massive queues when I've bought the kids to swimming this eve. Normally nothing, wonder if they'll still be queueing when I leave.

Libraryghost · 24/09/2021 18:28

It’s human nature I am afraid. There was a reason for ration books during WW2. At heart we are selfish animals. I can put my hand up though and say I have never panic bought. I can’t be arsed queue for anything. Too lazy to panic.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 24/09/2021 18:30

I'm slightly concerned about the situation as DH and I do a 150 mile round trip every Monday for his experimental cancer treatment. Dare I leave getting some fuel until Sunday evening?

Moraxella · 24/09/2021 18:30

Looking forward to a 4hr return cycle to work on the dark to do a 14hour shift in ITU next week 🥳 We’ve got enough petrol to go to one local petrol station, not drive around 😬

There isn't even a shortage, a tiny % of places have had some disruption, but they'll be another garage a few miles away max. Its the media and people reacting extremely.
