linelgreen - It's selfish people like you that are part of the problem. Can't believe you filled up 4 cars. Absolute madness.

LaMariposa · 24/09/2021 18:31

We are having a charging point fitted ready for an electric car next month. Wish we’d done it earlier.

@Zeal

The best option is to only half fill the tank. We never, ever need a full tank. Let me explain.

Whenever I go from A to B, I have noticed they are never at the same height above sea level. Therefore, logically half the journey is going to going down and the other half is going to be going up. When I am going downhill, gravity will allow the car to roll forward and I do not need the engine running to achieve that. When I need to go uphill, I can engage the engine and use that power to drive the car uphill against gravity.

It is that simple. I use the empty top part of the tank to go downhill and the bottom half, which contains the fuel of course, to go uphill. Because I never need to completely fill my tank, my fuel bills are only 50% of what they would otherwise be.

OMG this is literally the most jawdropping ignorance I've ever read online!

@Moraxella

Looking forward to a 4hr return cycle to work on the dark to do a 14hour shift in ITU next week 🥳 We’ve got enough petrol to go to one local petrol station, not drive around 😬
It'll be fine before next week, deliveries are largely arriving as normal and plenty of people will have full tanks sitting on their drives by then.
vera99 · 24/09/2021 18:32

@bozzabollix well said Brexit the fucking 1 ton elephant in almost every room now.

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 18:32

@Beapot how do you know this? I know I’m out area petrol stations have been closing before panic buying started. Is it only in our area then? And how do we know?

MissMatty2hats · 24/09/2021 18:33

No queues and no shortages here, but then we didn’t leave the E.U. Probably a coincidence?

escapeyou · 24/09/2021 18:33

We live rurally and have no access to public transport. I had about 90 miles in my tank and filled up yesterday. DH who is an essential worker had about 1/4 of a tank today. I’ve told him to try and come somewhere on his way home to fill up.

LIZS · 24/09/2021 18:33

Apparently there are queues at our local Shell, near motorway, but only diesel available.

BrilloPaddy · 24/09/2021 18:33

It's only BP that was facing shortages. Now all suppliers are.

People really are dickheads.

I'm embarrassed to be British sometimes.

Why were Tesco garages closing then? (Seen with my own eyes)
noprofessional · 24/09/2021 18:33

Christ, we're going to have to deal with KEY WORKERS again.

8dpwoah · 24/09/2021 18:34

@bozzabollix

I’ve have filled up both cars today, however my husband is a doctor and can’t be dicking about with no fuel. If he canes through the fuel in one he gets the other, and I get the pushbike. He does a fair few miles as covers three hospitals.

Rather than blame other drivers, most of whom will have good reasons for needing fuel, why aren’t we looking at the reasons why we in the UK are suffering this and not anyone else, then blaming the government for this shit show. Blaming over drivers just let’s them off the hook and it’s pissing me right off.

Time for the government to bring about the land of ambrosia and honey which they assured was ours post Brexit.

Absolutely this! Let the people bash each other about things that shouldn't even be an issue on the first place and then they won't analyse the detail behind the initial problem.

Although possibly now some of it is down to the fact that every time this government says there isn't a problem, there probably is and we should do the opposite of whatever they recommend...

jerometheturnipking · 24/09/2021 18:34

@BluebellsGreenbells

Stormwhale

So your luxury trip is more important than people getting to work or food deliveries?

Someone using petrol isn't going to make much difference to a diesel using lorry that can't fill up at the regular pumps.
User5827372728 · 24/09/2021 18:35

Our neighbour got an electric car last week… excellent timing!

I filled up on way hole from school on Monday! Very lucky, it will last me 5 weeks.

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 18:35

I think that’s what I’m trying to get at @8dpwoah but you do it better than me Grin

Doubledoorsontogarden · 24/09/2021 18:35

All the petrol stations here are now closed, well done wankers

MidlifeMel · 24/09/2021 18:36

Utterly selfish- I work in social care and couldn’t get near the pump today to fill up and make an essential visit. Nothing but a bunch of self obsessed idiots.

AFuturisticalSound · 24/09/2021 18:37

@Autumngoldleaf

I'm not sure what people are supposed to do though? They may need petrol? We all moan about how in thrall we are to places like Saudi and yet look at how everything relies on petrol. Roll on electric cars!!
What they are supposed to do is not act like idiots and top up their cars when they have plenty

No one is saying that you shouldn't get petrol if you need it but unless some unexplainable catastrophe has emptied everyone's tanks overnight the vast majority of those in the queues don't needto be there

girlmom21 · 24/09/2021 18:37

@LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone

I'm slightly concerned about the situation as DH and I do a 150 mile round trip every Monday for his experimental cancer treatment. Dare I leave getting some fuel until Sunday evening?
Is it worth phoning your local garages and ask what time they get deliveries? Or go out really late/really early tonight or tomorrow?
bozzabollix · 24/09/2021 18:37

@8dpwoah it’s driving me a bit nuts to be honest, the government repeatedly play this divide and rule game and it always works. Never fails.

Personally I’m quite happy to forgo the car if it starts to make people think about the hapless twats in power, but no, they’re too busy saying each others jobs aren’t important enough to allow them fuel.

I need to step away for blood pressure reasons.

Whitefire · 24/09/2021 18:38

Yes, because it is only the British who panic buy.

www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/washington-d-c-gas-shortage-80-of-stations-still-out-of-fuel-as-supply-chain-gets-back-online

Imnothereforthedrama · 24/09/2021 18:39

It worry’s me that people are so stupid and the majority are so privileged that they will never understand going without. What if you don’t fill up today but you full up next Thursday when you need it do you think there will be no fuel left? . I’d bet my last fiver by next week this panic buying will be over and won’t you feel foolish then, but probably not because you think your sensible because I must get to work , your not more important than anyone else you know . Don’t be kicking off because you can’t get hold of the bank or you gp . You can’t get certain thinks from shops because these people couldn’t get to work but hey as long as you got to work it’s fine .

Beapot · 24/09/2021 18:39

Because its been said many, many, many times by suppliers of fuel and in the media underneath the scare mongering headlines. There have been pockets across the countries where deliveries have been spareser than usual, but there isn't anything that warrants the silliness of today.

bozzabollix · 24/09/2021 18:40

@Beapot our local petrol station hasn’t had petrol for many days, way before these headlines. It is a supply issue, we’ve got a good few supply issues at the moment because we had to send all those incredibly hardworking people back to the EU.
