Seems a bit silly to be heavily pregnant, 30 min from hospital and no petrol!! This is has been brewing all week[/quote]
I agree but by the same token as someone in the same position myself, some (many?) would call me a panic buyer for going today when the gauge ticked below a quarter of a tank, which is my normal threshold for filling up...

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 24/09/2021 20:08

@Coogee

Are they allowing people to fill up jerrycans? Surely not. Now that is super selfish.

Why? It isn’t only cars that run on petrol.

I think people can do without mowing their flippin lawns when there is a shortage of petrol. Or borrow an electric mower if it must absolutely be done.

It's like the people who use sprinklers during a drought. Your lawn is not important.

BoredZelda · 24/09/2021 20:09

it's all the people topping up just incase.

People keep saying this. Are you carrying out some kind of survey?

I remember the last time there was a fuel shortage I was travelling for work, a snotty cashier said I shouldn’t be “topping up” because there is a shortage on, didn’t I know, and I was only putting in £30. I was equally snotty back when I said, I was nearly empty and had only put 30 quid in because their prices were way higher than average and I needed 30 quid of fuel to get me back home.

Right now I have little fuel, I will need some for work next week, I’ll put in what I need rather than filling up. That might look like I’m topping up if anyone is paying close attention to what I’m doing.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 24/09/2021 20:09

I don't drive, but I do think if people go on the news saying DON'T PANIC BUY, WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T PANIC BUY, people will hear PANIC BUY and start panic buying. It's just how people are.

Kiduknot · 24/09/2021 20:10

I work in a school and my fuel light is on!

MrsMaizel · 24/09/2021 20:10

Tesco driver just told us they haven't got enough fuel for their vans .

DoubleTweenQueen · 24/09/2021 20:11

How the bloody hell was I to know everyone was going to lose their minds today Confused

It’s not my ‘silliness’ that’s the problem, I’ve behaved perfectly reasonably. It’s all the other selfish fuckers causing an issue that never needed to be an issue.

Cocomarine · 24/09/2021 20:12

@Kiduknot

I work in a school and my fuel light is on!
We could do with a Covid firebreak anyway 😉
AntiMaskersAreTwats · 24/09/2021 20:12

I hope I took all the petrol this morning off some of the anti masking idiots Grin Thought I’d be selfish seeing as every other fucker is!

MilduraS · 24/09/2021 20:12

Are you a bit dense?
*
I can't bend time!*

Is it really faster to drive half a mile each way rather than walk/ use bikes/ having the kids use scooters? You're consuming fuel, adding to traffic and no doubt contributing to a parking nightmare around the school because you can't be arsed to do a half mile journey. Get your shit together. Half the people filling up probably couldn't get to school or work by other means.

MyMabel · 24/09/2021 20:12

I couldn’t believe the one queues past me today. I’m nearly on the red light and still didn’t bother to fill up and I love rurally and drive pretty much everywhere. The petrol stations have literally put posts out on Facebook pages to say stop panic buying they’re getting more fuel in tomorrow as normal.

I made sure to laugh and shake my head while driving past the queues today. So many bloody idiots.

Pixxie7 · 24/09/2021 20:14

They have said there isn’t a shortage but many petrol station are closed, very few people can manage without petrol. So what do they do fill up to ensure they have enough or sit back and enable other people can.
Rationing will only result in a rise in prices which will lead to a rise in everything else.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 20:14

Covid? When mentioned that ?
It's been forgotten about ..

@WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy

This has been brewing all week…I filled my tank on Monday

LetterFox · 24/09/2021 20:16

I never understand threads like this. If people hear there will be shortages, of course they will fill up their tank, if they don't, they'll be the first to not get to work / their kids to school / get to hospital to have a baby / visit their elderly parents. You can't blame individuals for trying to plan ahead in a crisis, when normally planning ahead is exactly what is expected to function well in life. Blame the government for Brexit and bad planning, blame the irresponsible media for stirring up fear of missing out, blame the companies for not paying their staff enough of a salary. Strange thread.

anonymousanne · 24/09/2021 20:17

Well we had no petrol and I was going to fill up tomorrow morning on my way to help a sick relative, but sent DH out after tea in the hopes it would be quieter tonight than tomorrow morning. No queue at all here 🤷🏼‍♀️ forecourt pumps open as normal. Some of my community nurse colleagues are struggling in the next town over though 🤦‍♀️

Horst · 24/09/2021 20:18

I was talking to an ambulance driver today and asked about the fuel issue. His said they are ok at work as they have their own tank that they fill up the ambulances from.

Dh part filled his car yesterday to half full so we have enough to next Thursday ish. If he can’t get more then, then his buggered as are a lot of people as he works in logistics.

I can see diesel cars if they come unstuck getting hold of some of that red from a friend of a friend.

Well I could walk home and have all of ten minutes to drive the 4.1 miles in morning traffic.

Or I could drive my kids to school, kick them out at the gate and speed off to the main road to take me to work on time!

I'm not an idiot. I don't drive there on days I don't work!!

Now that Covid doesn't seem that huge a problem any longer (yay to vaccines) there is a new crisis to fret about. What will be next? Life as we knew it until about 2007 is over.

ballsdeep · 24/09/2021 20:22

Unbelievably someone by me was filling up his car then proceeded to fill up three petrol tanks. How was this allowed?! Selfish bastard

New day new horror. Thank god that nice Mr Johnson got Brexit done way back and has taken back control.

The chronic and developing crises aren't affecting those countries as hard as here. And it's not Covid, since that's affecting everywhere. There aren't the same empty shelves in the EU as here. The severity of the problem is unique to Great Britain. Looks like the wheels are well and truly coming off the back of that bloody bus.
