Are the panic buyers hoping that it will be sorted in a few days? It makes no sense to panic buy a tank of fuel, if this was a long term thing, as everyone will be in the same position in a week anyway.
I think it will get sorted though.

Cocomarine · 24/09/2021 19:41

@Djifunrsn

Retired people often need to drive to loads of hospital appointments.
Oh god don’t say that! Selfishly taking up all the petrol AND draining the NHS? 😳😭

Bet they pay for the petrol with their final salary pensions, triple locked state pensions and winter fuel payment too 🤣

Suzi888 · 24/09/2021 19:42

@AlandAnna

Ok, it’s a well known combination of human selfishness and media glee in chaos.
^ and utter stupidity. Demand and supply, push the prices up, everyone’s a winner. Oh wait, no….
girlmom21 · 24/09/2021 19:42

Not that I should have to explain, but on a weekday I drop my kids at school (primary) half mile in the opposite direction, then have 20 minutes to get to work and park. It's cutting it very fine. No way would I make it cycling.

But your initial complaint was about being able to get to work tomorrow...

Ori3 · 24/09/2021 19:44

I hope all those who are panic buying petrol voted Remain.

vera99 · 24/09/2021 19:45

Well if you're watching world this is what Global Britain looks like led by a Kermit quoting PM. Grin

Doorhandleghost · 24/09/2021 19:45

Interesting how everyone has a fabulous reason for filling up their car to the brim today of all days and no one will admit to panic buying…..

I live v close to a filling station and the main road this morning was at a standstill because of the queue stretching back a very long way, it held up all the school/rush hour traffic and blocked a fire engine’s way. The petrol station was dry by lunch time - that isn’t people buying as they usually would is it. 10/1 someone on here was in that queue!

Bucanarab · 24/09/2021 19:45

Missing the point somewhat but it's quite remarkable the number of people who apparently drive around with the red light on or "need to drive to x but don't have enough fuel to do it".

Just treat a half tank as empty and you'll always have fuel in case of an emergency/shortage.

TortillaBonita · 24/09/2021 19:45

Retired people often need to drive to loads of hospital appointments.

Or they could use their free bus passes or rail passes.

lannistunut · 24/09/2021 19:46

I guess if you are worried about gettingt o work on Monday, and think this might not get resolved, it makes sense.

What. A. Mess.

Thanks, brexiteers.

MissCruellaDeVil · 24/09/2021 19:46

If I can't get fuel tomorrow or over the weekend (my local station had run out when I finally got through the queue) I can't get to work on Monday, meaning my class will have no one to teach then, and I can't get my own DC to school and nursery. I may be taking DH's car at this rate, but even that has only a quarter of a tank.

AzureTwist · 24/09/2021 19:46

Not filled up, have bout a quarter of a tank ( small car). Will have enough til at least Tue, so hope can get some then as in a rural area and doubt people would be happy of school staff not in.

LOL!
Autumngoldleaf · 24/09/2021 19:47

Xeno I agree.

I know it's frustrating but usually everyone thinks what they need to do trumps everyone else

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 24/09/2021 19:47

Our most expensive petrol station was absolutely rammed today, with cars queuing outside on the road. I can't afford to fill mine up until payday next week and I'm hoping and praying I'll be able to get diesel when it comes to it. Sadly I don't have the option to 'walk to work' I'm a domiciliary Carer and average around 45-50 miles per day in my car. In order to gets calls done by walking I would have to take a massive decrease in the amount of calls I do per day thus also taking a massive decrease in my wages too

girlmom21 · 24/09/2021 19:48

@TortillaBonita

According to everyone on here justifying why their need for petrol is greater than anyone else's need there's no public transport running anywhere Grin
itsgettingwierd · 24/09/2021 19:48

@Pugmumm

OP it's not the people blame the media!!!
The media are idiots for making a huge fuss about 5 BP stations shutting due to delivery issues - not even supply.

The the British people are also idiots for buying into this - AGAIN! Did loo roll and pasta gate teach people nothing?

Supply issues are as a result of over consumption in a short period of time.

There wasn't any supply issue - there may be now 🤦🏼‍♀️

vera99 · 24/09/2021 19:50

Well, the British people bought Brexit so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by continuing stupidity.

Shitfuckcommaetc · 24/09/2021 19:51

Unless you want to drop a bike at my house tonight so I can cycle tomorrow, I still have tomorrows immediate problem

wewereliars · 24/09/2021 19:51

People are panic buying because they do not trust this government and because they need petrol, and do not know if petrol will become unavailable.

Because of this uncertainty, people make the logical decision to try to hedge by filling up when they can. Simple as that.

IncessantNameChanger · 24/09/2021 19:51

There are queues at every petrol station I have passed. Luckily I filled both cars on Monday after running both down to zero miles as per normal ( stupid I know but I always think I will do it then forget).
I cant get whipped up over it. It's not something you can stock pile in the bath and theres no shortages or so we are told. If that's true it will be over soon.

I also cant angry as you see people filling up every minute of every day. I dont want to presume everyone at the petrol station is a selfish wanker. Lots would be there anyway. Fuel runs out when you drive.

Just waiting for the videos of people crying and calls of burn the witch like back in March 21 if you dare need to feed your kids, wipe your arse or now - God forbid get from A to B.

Muffinsandfruitcakes · 24/09/2021 19:51

Petrol is the new toilet roll

MilduraS · 24/09/2021 19:52

So your kids can't walk half a mile and you refuse to walk the half mile there and back but anyone else buying petrol because they need it is a selfish fucker? Hmm

MrsCremuel · 24/09/2021 19:52

I have half a tank. No fuel signs in my 3 local petrol stations. Induction booked for next weekend. Bit nervous! Was relying on getting to parents house to help with toddler this week as this preg is hard going. Think I need to save the petrol now!
