To not want to eat food delivered to a bin?!

PurpleCurtain · 21/09/2021 17:47

Ordered some cereal bars in bulk that were delivered today by Royal Mail. I was in, but feeding my newborn and didn't make the door. They delivered it - to my brown bin, which is inside a bin store to the front of my house. The last things put in there were manure and very mouldy flowers.

DH thinks there's no problem - they are individually wrapped and then in cardboard box and he has thrown the box. I don't want to eat them or frankly have them in my house, and feel completely bemused at the lack of hygiene standards from Royal Mail. Am I being unreasonable?

OP posts:

Op I mean this in the kindest way having looked at your previous posts quickly, if you havent already please speak to your gp or even health visitor about how anxious you seem around cleaning and mould. It seems quite extreme and it must be really hard work and stressful for you to deal with.

HalzTangz · 21/09/2021 21:18
@ImprobablePuffin I thought the same thing, had a Google and apparently Nestle do!
But they aren't loosely rapped, they are sealed

buttercup1001 · 21/09/2021 21:19

Even if it had been in there for 8 days, what exactly do you think has happened to the bars? That’s the entire point of packaging. You’re not eating the cardboard box!
That post made me laugh.

buttercup1001 · 21/09/2021 21:19

It will be fine it eat and enjoy.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/09/2021 21:21

@HalzTangz I missed the loosely wrapped bit, just saw paper wrapper

HalzTangz · 21/09/2021 21:22

@Moonwatcher1234

Awww don’t worry OP…some people can be really quite ott on these kind of threads. Yes, food out of the bin is gross. Full stop. In real life I bet nobody here would have eaten it!
Wrong, my box of Trevor mints was left in my general waste bean, I'm eating a packet now
buttercup1001 · 21/09/2021 21:24

Mould has penicillin in it .it will be fine .sorry but it's a bit pointless asking that on here just give them all to your OH and order more happy days.if u can slip out a refund for leaving it in the bin for another even better.

user1473878824 · 21/09/2021 21:31

@KT727

I can't believe the vast majority of people would happily eat from a bin.
Well that’s not what anyone is doing though, is it? It’s a packaged box which then has packaged food in it, and the outer packaging touched some slimy flowers. It’s hardly devouring a slice of pizza out of the rubbish, is it? Catch yourself on.
user1473878824 · 21/09/2021 21:32

Mainly though OP you clearly aren’t coping very well right now if you’re worried about even having the box in the house. I hope you’ve got some support for your OCD and anxiety in real life x

HalzTangz · 21/09/2021 21:33

Reference the mould, it takes 24 to 48 hours to grow on cardboard that's dap, and longer on dried cardboard. It takes even longer to penetrate completely through the box to reach the wrappers of the bars.

Your food is fine

bunnytheegghunter · 21/09/2021 21:36

Honestly if knew what had been in the lorries that most food is transported in you wouldn't worry about your bin! There is no contamination to the food!

buttercup1001 · 21/09/2021 21:37

I would just leave them for your OH simple I don't understand the massive drama off it

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/09/2021 21:40

@willithappen

YABU 100% You say you are worried about mould getting through, yet you could leave them there for eight hours for your partner to come home and get them. If it was a case of mould getting through you could have got them as soon as you were free.

You are also BU to be critical of the delivery driver for putting it there. They don't know what's in your package and also are extremely busy. Most people would prefer not to have to go to the sorting office to get there's. Also don't see the issue with them opening a gate and put it at your back door either.

As others have pointed out, your food sees a lot more around it in the supermarket than it will in that bin likely.

OP is definitely not being U to not expect her food to be left IN the bin.

Since when did containers meant for rubbish become a suitable place to put non-rubbish?

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/09/2021 21:41

FFS they are sealed and in an outer box why on earth wouldn't you eat them?

Decomposing flowers and manure from a herbivore wouldn't do you much harm if they had somehow penetrated the outer packaging.

You're being pathetic.

However leaving parcels in bins is bloody stupid and delivery workers really shouldn't do it.

buttercup1001 · 21/09/2021 21:45

It was wrapped in a cardboard box then the wrapper's were also wrapped again inside that's 2 coverings until u even get to the bars they are fine.

Ileflottante · 21/09/2021 21:50

Oh OP, your anxiety is off the scale based on your previous posts and the many, many threads you have started.

The way you described your mum in the cat bed one suggests that your deep anxiety may have been ‘taught’ by her own anxiety. Think about that with your own baby. Do you want to pass that on to them? I bet you don’t. Please seek some support with your extremely disproportionate responses to perceived germ stimuli.

gofg · 21/09/2021 21:57

I really wonder how some people on MN cope with life. I hope none of you princesses ever find yourself in an emergency situation where you have no running water and no working toilets if you can't cope with well wrapped food being in a bin!!!

You are being ridiculous OP - and as for leaving them in the bin for 8 hours, words fail me.

gofg · 21/09/2021 22:00

Depending on the type of snack bar and what time of the month it was, I would even consider retrieving and eating it if it fell unwrapped directly into the mouldy flowers and green waste.

Me too Grin

youvegottenminuteslynn · 21/09/2021 22:00

Just be glad it was in a bin and didn't get darked on after sunset...

Annoyedanddissapointed · 21/09/2021 22:02

I am sure bin has spiders to drag their spider willies over it anyway😂
youvegottenminuteslynn · 21/09/2021 22:04

Bless you OP I just saw your other threads now and feel bad I made a joke - sorry, you're clearly genuinely struggling with OCD especially related to your little one. Are you able to access any help for this through your health visitor at all? I'm sure some support from them / your GP / referring for talking therapies could help Thanks

Ellenanora7 · 21/09/2021 22:07

Some people on this thread should be ashamed of themselves, making fun of someone, calling them names, telling them to get a grip, I honestly can't imagine how posting horrible comments can make you feel better about yourselves, remember what you've said here when someone in your real life is struggling with something, I bet none of you would be too quick to say the same to them, absolutely awful way to treat someone.

I hope you're ok Purplecurtain

Embroidery · 21/09/2021 22:09

This thread is quite gaslighting OP. And mean
-spirited. Most people would not have tolerated taking it out of the bin.

If I was living with a man who insisted on taking something out of the bin (and encouraging me to eat it) I would be in a terrible state. I would also plan to LTB. Its one of the worse things someone could do to me.

Btw this is a preference not mental illness. Some pp don't know the difference but it is one. A preference akin to not eating excrement - you wouldnt call that OCD!

This thread is very unkind.

Also how society has descended, oniine shopping was meant to be convenient but all it has ended in is pp fully justifying getting stuff from bins. Its not normal or natural and wouldnt have been accepted before recent times. Pp mentioning poverty are mad. Ive been very poor in my time but would still live on 30p beans rather than get anything from a bin.
Online shopping occasionally puts things in bins with me. I massively kick off with delivery company and supplier every time and have always managed to get money back. I leave it in bin every time. Sometimes they collect it, mostly not but I still get the money back. They shouldnt be allowed to do it and if more pp didnt accept it, it could be stopped.

RosieCockle · 21/09/2021 22:09

Wonder where the newborn gets it's fussiness from? 🤔

Shakirawannabe · 21/09/2021 22:14

You must have a very quiet life if this is all you have to complain about Hmm
