To not want to eat food delivered to a bin?!

Ordered some cereal bars in bulk that were delivered today by Royal Mail. I was in, but feeding my newborn and didn't make the door. They delivered it - to my brown bin, which is inside a bin store to the front of my house. The last things put in there were manure and very mouldy flowers.

DH thinks there's no problem - they are individually wrapped and then in cardboard box and he has thrown the box. I don't want to eat them or frankly have them in my house, and feel completely bemused at the lack of hygiene standards from Royal Mail. Am I being unreasonable?

as I say there was a layer of very moldy flowers in there directly underneath the box and the box was sat in there for about 8 hours until DH got home.

I can understand not answering the door if you were feeding the baby but the postman would have left a card so why did you leave them for 8 hours? Especially if you were expecting the cereal bars. Would the postman even have known they were a food item? Is your brown bin for garden waste? Are you even allowed to put manure in it?

StarryStarrySocks · 21/09/2021 18:07

Send them to me and I will dispose of them for you. Into my mouth, because they are fine to eat. Hmm

Biancadelrioisback · 21/09/2021 18:07

Eh? So why leave them in the brown bin? Surely you'd pop out and move them to the other bin if you were so disgusted?

Princess alert!

@SylvanasWindrunner

I'd just be glad I didn't have to schlepp to the sorting office to collect it. Life is too short to spend time fretting about inconsequential shite like this. They're in packaging. That's the point of it.
Mold can get through packaging.

Why on earth is it preferable to going to a sorting office?

Well if you can’t make it to your own bin, you’d find it even harder to get to a sorting office!

SylvanasWindrunner · 21/09/2021 18:11

Three layers of cardboard and plastic in a few minutes? Hmm Right-o

TidyDancer · 21/09/2021 18:11

You're being silly. I'm with your DH on this.

Houseonahill · 21/09/2021 18:11

YABU and wasteful Sad

HerrenaHarridan · 21/09/2021 18:11

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You should see the excellent quality food I have gotten from bins

Whole legs of Serrano ham, whole rounds of Roquefort

The food is in several layers of seal packaging. The bin germs won’t have gotten in

You’ll be right

Annoyedanddissapointed · 21/09/2021 18:12

Mold can get through packaging.

Not if someone picks it up asap instead of having bin stand off😁

RobinPenguins · 21/09/2021 18:12

I can only assume the 15% who’ve said yanbu haven’t read it and assumed you meant food in a way that it could actually be affected, like a pizza in a takeaway box or something. Mould absolutely can’t permeate the plastic wrapper of a cereal bar, let alone a wrapper of a cereal bar that’s then in a box and another box.

EatYourVegetables · 21/09/2021 18:13

I’m against lying to children, but if I was your Mummy I’d tell you I’ve binned them and got replacements and serve you the same bars. YABU.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 21/09/2021 18:13

How is mold going to get through both cardboard and plastic?!?

SylvanasWindrunner · 21/09/2021 18:13

How is mold going to get through both cardboard and plastic?!?
Lasers. The bastards have lasers now.
ImprobablePuffin · 21/09/2021 18:14

Mold can get through packaging.

Op do you genuinely believe that in that short time the mouldy flowers have infiltrated the box AND the cereal bar wrappers AND have contaminated the cereal bars themselves?

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 21/09/2021 18:14
Grin
dearfanny · 21/09/2021 18:14

Good lord!

Do not waste that perfectly edible food. You neurotic, paranoid fool

Donate to a food bank if you're THAT fussy

Feelinalrightwiththecrew · 21/09/2021 18:15

@Annoyedanddissapointed

Ooooh.

Newborn
Yabu but claims ianbu
Food hygiene in question
Manure in brown bin (whyyyyyyy, such waste)

3* so far. Crank it up a bit.
May I suggest a healthy dose offfffff.... Hmmmm..... "I am bit ocd"?

Yes I've previously been diagnosed with OCD, and I've been particular about mold ever since - why would mental health issues be deserving of being treated like s**t? I was expecting this thread to be a light "I would / wouldn't eat them", how naive I was!

I think I've seen it all now.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 21/09/2021 18:16

Do you think your delivery drivers find time to wash their hands after every wee? I can pretty much guarantee there were WILLY GERMS on every single package that has ever been delivered to you.

Annoyedanddissapointed · 21/09/2021 18:16

4* now

Flowers500 · 21/09/2021 18:18

Jesus fucking Christ, real princess and the pea situation here… have you ever been to a shop, seen a factory, the inside of a pub storeroom, a commercial kitchen?
