Prince Philip’s mustard prank

I don’t have any very strong feelings about the Royal family except to find it all a bit outdated but I found this story a real sign of how out of touch they are. The thought of my grandfather encouraging me to squirt mustard on to his ceiling! Since he a) wouldn’t have an army of cleaners to clear it up b) only had a small number of rooms to go in to and would not have wanted disgusting mustard all over the place c) didn’t have incredibly high ceilings where perhaps you wouldn’t have noticed.
I could understand if it was squirting mustard outside or maybe on clothes that could be washed but I found that story really jarring. They don’t need to be house proud, they haven’t worked for what they have and have so much.

You don’t have strong feelings about the Royal Family? Then you go and start a thread about something harmless and put a sinister twist on it. Sure we believe you.

SickAndTiredAgain · 21/09/2021 10:47

What grandfather, in their right mind, would do something like that?

While it does sound annoying I don’t think it’s that ridiculous.

I sort of don’t believe it hit the ceiling though, I feel like that would take some doing. I may have to try it and see..

RunningFromInsanity · 21/09/2021 10:49

There’s so much to criticise the RF for, but having mustard in a tube rather than a jar is peak MN Grin

You wouldn't saw the handle off. How would you get the plastic bit stuck into the fork out.

HTKB · 21/09/2021 10:49

It’s the joke of someone who wants to interact with children but doesn’t really know how. And that’s how they remember him. Made my heart break a little bit for them all.

limitedperiodonly · 21/09/2021 10:49

It's more proof that they are quite odd. I wonder if man's man Philip would have told his son to stop hiding behind his mummy's castle walls and just accept court papers like the rest of us have to.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/09/2021 10:50

@Wroxie

Is mustard in a tube something that only really posh people have?
For a BBQ. Otherwise it comes as a powder and you mix it with water and put in a mustard pot, usually glass which sits in a silver pot.

William clearly says not a pot. So it implies to me they were outside.

I stick to my original post when I said that the ceiling is a ceiling of a awning or outside cabin or tent. I can hear that in the way they refer to it.

PartyStory · 21/09/2021 10:51

Also a waste of food. Even if it was just a small amount, it’s indicative of an overall attitude of wastefulness.

As for it being BBQ sauce outside in a tent, there’s a chance the stain wouldn’t have been able to be removed and that part (all?) of the tent would have to be binned.

Marmelace · 21/09/2021 10:53

So what do you want to do about it? Shall we dig him up and make him apologise? Ffs

greenlynx · 21/09/2021 10:56

Yes, it’s fun for kids but I think he wouldn’t play it if he or his wife would be responsible for cleaning after. Just a thought.

That’s usually what people like this want. Make dead people repent for their sins. Through the medium of Twitter, it at all possible, for the world to see.
Dita73 · 21/09/2021 10:57

This has got to be a wind up. If it’s not some people really need to unclench

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 21/09/2021 10:57

@Billlius

The Royal Family preach on and on about the environment and climate change while taking private jets etc etc. Prince Charles won’t have plastic at Highgrove. He makes the gardeners saw off any plastic handles on garden tools and refit them with wooden handles. It’s in the Highgrove book. So why do they have plastic bottles for mustard?
Fuck I didn't know that Shock such a waste of time and resources
AwaAnBileYerHeid · 21/09/2021 10:57

@Billlius

I agree with you OP, someone’s got to clean all that lot up with ladders and special cleaning agents as it’s a Grade 1* building” and secondly, I thought Prince Philip was an environmentalist? You can’t squeeze a glass jar. That joke had to happen with a plastic bottle.Hmm
Perhaps nearly 40 years ago when the kids were wee, it was plastic bottles 🤷‍♀️ The drive for environmentalism is more recent and bottles would have been what was available at the time. Bit of a strange point. Sorry if you were joking and it's went over my head!
Billlius · 21/09/2021 10:58

Yet you would chuck away a whole tent because of a BBQ sauce stain? Hahahahahaha
alloalloallo · 21/09/2021 10:58

@CounsellorTroi

There’s mess and mess. I imagine the ceilings would have needed repainting after that game.
My daughter has Tourette’s. You can only imagine the stuff we end up with on our ceilings, including mustard, eggs, tomato ketchup, cups of tea, etc. We clean it off, I have never had to repaint one.

Sounds like a funny prank to play on his grandkids

Yes! My Grandad used to do stuff like this when we were kids. I have so many fond, funny memories of him messing about with us like that.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 21/09/2021 10:59

This post is mental. Imagine using a little horseplay between grandfather and grandkids as a stick to beat the royal family with. There really are some strange uns out there.

Is this post real? The world has well and truly gone mad.

Why would you bin a tent because it had a stain on it? Seriously? How wasteful!

The Royals didn't bin the tent. The stains are still visible.

derxa · 21/09/2021 11:00

Fuck I didn't know that shock such a waste of time and resources Because it probably didn't happen. You wouldn't saw off a handle.

StorageIngredients · 21/09/2021 11:00

My Grandad would have simply not tolerated the waste of food . He was a lovely fun Grandad, long deceased but actually the same age as PP, but he wouldn't have stood for that let alone encouraged it, not because of the waste of money but because of the waste of food.

Fluffypastelslippers · 21/09/2021 11:01

@Billlius

Your comprehension needs a bit of work. That text does not say the plastic handles were removed and replaced with wood. It says plastic is banned and a lot of old tops have had their handles replaced to make them easier to use.

Whatever angle you are chasing here, it's not working.

Fluffypastelslippers · 21/09/2021 11:02

Not replaced with wood because they were plastic

Dunrovi · 21/09/2021 11:03

It does smack of someone who's never had to touch a dishcloth or mop in his entire life!
