Prince Philip’s mustard prank

I don’t have any very strong feelings about the Royal family except to find it all a bit outdated but I found this story a real sign of how out of touch they are. The thought of my grandfather encouraging me to squirt mustard on to his ceiling! Since he a) wouldn’t have an army of cleaners to clear it up b) only had a small number of rooms to go in to and would not have wanted disgusting mustard all over the place c) didn’t have incredibly high ceilings where perhaps you wouldn’t have noticed.
I could understand if it was squirting mustard outside or maybe on clothes that could be washed but I found that story really jarring. They don’t need to be house proud, they haven’t worked for what they have and have so much.

@Hertsgirl10

There’s more uproar here about a prank than there is in MN about an actual Prince that has sex with kids.
No kids involved.

Quaggers: Woah there you got the wrong end of my stick! No high horse for me. I was referring to the Royal's habit of hunting and shooting for pleasure. Something they've been known to introduce their DCs to at an early age. Though Princess Diana tried to put a stop to it and failed.

Pliudev · 23/09/2021 11:04

Yes Hertsgirl it really is. Do you have any thoughts?

Oh for gods sake give it a rest. They live surprisingly simply compared to other royals around the world. It's just that they live in palaces. If he were spreading it on ornate ceilings but it wasn't, it was most likely to be in one of the numerous cottages on one of the estates. He was a very very decent man and did so much for our country so stop being small minded and troublemaking over a grandfather having a bit of fun with his grandchildren. You are a sad person if you've never done anything childish with children. Something they'll always remember. Some people just like to have a go at whatever they do. They do so much for Britain and we'd be a damn sight worse off without them.

Anyone else think Princess Anne' s sitting room is like a nicer version of the one on Craggy Island?

Now enjoying a nice ham and mustard sandwich thanks to this thread.

This is one of the funniest things I've ever read on here. You've definitely drunk the kool aid
Mirw · 23/09/2021 12:55

My grandfather used to do this with ketchup. They had an "American" tomato bottle that he used. My Dad had to clean the stains off the roof as my Nana was too short!! It was really funny...

Maybe you need to take a chill pill!!

Sheerdetermination · 23/09/2021 12:56

Precisely what I thought, OP.

That is an excellent post.

You need to read more threads. There are much funnier things.

But surely it's such a non event it shouldn't even be mentioned. Was that the height of Phil's humour? I've got so many fun filled memories of my dad and grandad. Squirting mustard on a ceiling would hardly be remembered. (how bizarre) I suppose they have better memories of stuff they did with nannys. Hopefully not racist ones.

So why is it even being mentioned? Look at what's not being talked about because of it...
WatchMyChops · 23/09/2021 15:10

Grell, someone started a thread about said non-event. Please do not insult people’s intelligence, we are all capable of having different trains of thought. I can think that Andrew is a piece of turd, who just needs to do the right thing, and still think when I read on this thread about the mustard shenanigans, “Ah, that’s nice.” As it happens, I only found out about this BBC article from Mumsnet.

This documentary was supposed to be a personal portrait. It was planned a while ago to commemorate Philip’s 100th birthday. These things are planned months and sometimes even a just few years beforehand. They are even recorded, reminiscing fond memories, discussing family members who are not yet decreased. There’s nothing more to it than that.

Blossomtoes · 23/09/2021 15:54

Exactly that @WatchMyChops.

Grellbunt · 23/09/2021 15:59

Sure

I'm sure nobody is distracted by this at all
