Prince Philip’s mustard prank

I don’t have any very strong feelings about the Royal family except to find it all a bit outdated but I found this story a real sign of how out of touch they are. The thought of my grandfather encouraging me to squirt mustard on to his ceiling! Since he a) wouldn’t have an army of cleaners to clear it up b) only had a small number of rooms to go in to and would not have wanted disgusting mustard all over the place c) didn’t have incredibly high ceilings where perhaps you wouldn’t have noticed.
I could understand if it was squirting mustard outside or maybe on clothes that could be washed but I found that story really jarring. They don’t need to be house proud, they haven’t worked for what they have and have so much.

@burritofan

Who the fuck buys mustard in a tube.
Um, pretty much everyone I know. Confused Unless you eat a lot of mustard, the tubes are brilliant as you can just squeeze a bit out and it stays much fresher, unlike a jar. Like tomato puree!
Max4u · 21/09/2021 11:49

I met Prince Philip and his sense of humour in the time I was with him was very unfunny. He essentially belittled and made fun of those around him to amuse himself. One young women I was with, he made fun of her much to his own amusement and left her red faced and in tears.

I can only speak from my experience but I found him rude, arrogant and very condescending. He wasn't a nice guy in my experience and his staff worked very hard to contain him.

All the sycophantic publicity around him is just in my cynical opinion a counter point to the Prince Andrew scandal and designed to make us think what good eggs they really are deep down. Can't believe people are buying it.

Who the fuck buys mustard in a tube.
We do.
HypocriteHunter · 21/09/2021 11:53

I have met him too - on several occasions.

That may have been your experience but it wasn’t mine.

Must have been the company…

@DancesWithTortoises

Good grief. Someone cared enough to make a thread about something so trivial?

Hatred of the royal family runs deep in the unhinged.

People do not need to be unhinged to hate the circus that is the royal family.
Max4u · 21/09/2021 11:55

hypocrite what 30 of us, doubt it Grin

I’ve learned something new from this otherwise bonkers thread! Didn’t even know mustard came in tubes. I eat vast quantities so never known a jar to go off. (Also have jarred tomato purée…)

00100001 · 21/09/2021 11:57

@Dogmatix34

If the story had been flicking peas then I would have found it quite endearing but to those that have food fights, do you allow your children to make permanent stains on furnishings/ decor? I think also it’s the fact that they have decided to release this story out of presumably loads they could have chosen as he was supposedly such a fun grandad. Where are their PR people?!
No doubt someone would be complaining about wasting food, privilege and "tone deafness" and someone would have had to pick those peas up and no doubt they got smushed in the very expensive carpets. etc etc
Max4u · 21/09/2021 11:57

I don't think people are unhinged they're just starting to look through things and ask more questions. PR pieces pushed out are not just swallowed anymore, especially with all the other events surrounding the royals at the moment.

HypocriteHunter · 21/09/2021 11:58

Don’t think we need the grin do we?

I do doubt it due to my own experience.

youboozeyoulose · 21/09/2021 11:58

@Endlesscleaning

Will no one think of the mustard seeds!
Ha ha ha
Max4u · 21/09/2021 11:59

Hypocrite oh I think we do Grin

That's the great thing about forums, we can all have different experiences and opinions.

PinkFootstool · 21/09/2021 12:01

@Nothanksverymuch why would any women need to clean up a food fight? Fortunately for me, my father is emancipated and capable of cleaning up his own messes....

Haha, brilliant, glad to be of assistance! Wink Every day is a school day, the stuff I've learnt on MN....! Grin
HypocriteHunter · 21/09/2021 12:02

And if he did do that max, did any of you call him out on it?

Or were you just meek little ‘sycophants’?

I’ll take a guess…

PartyStory · 21/09/2021 12:02

Yet you would chuck away a whole tent because of a BBQ sauce stain? Hahahahahaha

I never said I would do that. I don’t even own a tent ffs.

The royal household is not going to reuse a tent with a mustard/BBQ sauce stain on it as they often host foreign dignitaries.

It says in the article they still have it!

00100001 · 21/09/2021 12:03

@PartyStory

Also a waste of food. Even if it was just a small amount, it’s indicative of an overall attitude of wastefulness.

As for it being BBQ sauce outside in a tent, there’s a chance the stain wouldn’t have been able to be removed and that part (all?) of the tent would have to be binned.

LOL at the utter nonsense of you saying a bit of mustard wasted is indicative of an overall attitude of wastefulness ... and then go onto an entire marquee/tent would need to be thrown away because of a small mustard stain.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 21/09/2021 12:03

I'm no fan of the late Philip but I don't think this is something to get agitated about.

Not in tents they don’t. That’s what palaces are for.

Max4u · 21/09/2021 12:04

GrinGrin You're hilarious hypocrite

megletthesecond · 21/09/2021 12:04

Yanbu. Shows he never cleaned anything up. Not even funny.

How the fuck would you know?

Have you been to a tent party with the Queen? Did you query if this was a Mustard Tent replacement? And they said "oh yes, we lobbed it in the bin because old Philly got the grand-kiddies to squeeze mustard up there..."

Confused
HypocriteHunter · 21/09/2021 12:05

Not got an answer *max?

Fluffypastelslippers · 21/09/2021 12:05

@burritofan

Who the fuck buys mustard in a tube.

I'm struggling with this. A tube of mustard. It's a common way to buy mustard. What are you acting as if it's as rare as hens teeth? It's as everyday as tubes of toothpaste.
