To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

I shower every day. It takes literally ten minutes of my time and I feel refreshed and nice.
I like to do this. I moisturise my skin every time with in shower oils or cream.

I wash my hair twice a week, maybe a bit less.

PattyPan · 20/09/2021 22:35

I don’t shower every day, if I did my skin would hate me! I’m not a person who sweats a lot in general but I shower more in summer than winter though obviously due to getting sweaty, and after exercise - but I plan my showers and exercise around each other:

Cuddlyrottweiler · 20/09/2021 22:37

I don't wash everyday, but I don't feel fresh after a shower. Maybe it's the sensory autism issues but when I'm wet it takes me ages to feel comfortable enough to get dresses or I feel sticky and uncomfortable.

PattyPan · 20/09/2021 22:37

@irregularegular

I must admit I am finding it hard to understand why the "strip washers" think that is less faff/quicker. A thorough strip wash always seems extremely faffy and awkward to me on the rare occasions I've been forced to do it. So for me the choice would be either shower, or nothing much at all.
My shower isn’t reliably hot, but I can make a pitcher of warm water by diluting water from the kettle.
WineInTheBlood · 20/09/2021 22:38

Whatever works for you. I have to shower every day as even though I don't smell, I feel grubby. I have really fine hair and so if I don't wash it every day it starts going greasy pretty quickly. I know people say you shouldn't wash your hair every day but it completely depends on the kind of hair you have.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/09/2021 22:39

Daily shower and hair wash. At weekends if we’re not doing anything I might knock about until the afternoon and then have a long bath and straight into fresh lounge wear.

On work days I feel like I need a shower to wake me up and set me up for the day. Even if WFH I wouldn’t feel right - although I have definitely been known to log on, check messages, then go and shower on days I don’t have early meetings!

LadyJJ · 20/09/2021 22:40

I have a bath and wash my hair twice a week. The rest of the time I have a good wash with a flannel and soap/water.
I hate showers, I smell lovely.

@CiaoForNiao

I'M GONNA SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE HARD OF HEARING AT THE BACK

NOT EVERYONE HAS A SHOWER SO HAVING A SHOWER INSTEAD OF A STRIP WASHING ISN'T AN OPTION FFS

I feel better now. As you were.

AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE SHOWERS BUT SEEM TO THINK IT IS QUICKER (AND PRESUMABLY JUST AS HYGENIC) TO ARSE ABOUT WITH A STRIP WASH
CiaoForNiao · 20/09/2021 22:58

@LukeEvansWife good for them.
Maybe they find it quicker and easier. I honestly don't see why anyone else cares how someone else washes. Unless they wash so infrequently they stink. Which is unlikely if they alternate showers and strip washes.

Zerrin13 · 20/09/2021 22:59

Flicking a flannel round over the sink is never as thorough as having a shower

I only care if they are near me and they smell

I actually don't get some peoples aversion to showers. Does moisturiser not exist? For people who specifically don't daily because of the drying effect.

Anonymous48 · 20/09/2021 23:09

It's very rare that I don't shower daily. I wash my hair most days too, but I almost always take a quick shower even if I don't. I feel like a slob if I don't.
If I was going anywhere more interesting than the supermarket, or if I had done any exercise that day then I wouldn't dream of not showering.

Moisturiser exists. But why would someone deliberately overwash themselves, make their skin dry/sore and then use moisturiser?!

Why not just wash an appropriate amount to start with?

StoneofDestiny · 20/09/2021 23:25

I shower every morning without fail - makes me feel clean and alert and stops me dropping off again. May shower in evening too if feeling grubby

XenoBitch · 20/09/2021 23:27

I grew up with no shower, and having a weekly bath using the same bathwater as the rest of my family.
I have a shower now, but still prefer to wash at the sink. I hate feeling wet all over. A strip wash is easier and faster for me.
I wash my hair once a week, sometimes longer. It is always tied up anyway. My mental health and self esteem is shit anyway so sometimes basic hygiene to me is like polishing a turd.

TartanJumper · 20/09/2021 23:37

It's absolute fine, but people on here will tell you you are a minger.

It all depends doesn't it? Height of summer + physical job= reasonable to shower at least once a day.
Cool weather + WFH= not unreasonable to not.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 20/09/2021 23:52

Vivienne Westwood says she bathes once per week. Each day she just washes her bits and goes. Some believe it’s healthier for your skin rather than subjecting it to detergent every day.

Zwills · 20/09/2021 23:59

Ok so I'm sure this will get to some people as it seems so popular but why on earth would you strip wash and why haven't I heard of people doing this before? For private parts I use a bidet spray whenever I use the toilet, before that it was a small rinsing jug, I can't imagine just using toilet paper! I know not everyone has a shower but when I was a child we filled up a bucket with water in the bath (instead of filling up the whole bath) and used a plastic bath /rinsing jug to wash the soap off. Surely that's easier than standing next to the sink naked wiping yourself down?!

I do not find showers easier, and I hate them. I hate feeling wet. Maybe realise that everyone is different with their preferences for washing. What is refreshing and comfortable for you, is a horrid sensory nightmare for someone else.

Because that's your "normal". Personally filling up jugs and standing in the bath so I can pour them over me seems as much faff as running a bath. Doesn't mean either of us is wrong, we've just grown up doing things differently.

Read your own thread fgs. It's been explained 20 times already.

womaninatightspot · 21/09/2021 00:21

I shower/bathe in the evening normally. I do put on deodrant so not sweaty when I get up. I 'd shower if I had something special to do but am a lone worker off sick at the moment and it's just the kids/ dog / school bus driver to impress/ appal

It has been explained why some need to strip wash . You should learn so you can do it if you are ever sick in hospital and can't shower .
tearsforfears72 · 21/09/2021 00:24

Personally I shower every evening, but I wouldn’t judge someone who showered only every other day. Leaving it longer than 2 days is a bit gross though.
