To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

@Daphnise

The Australians always say the British don't wash- and in the OP's case it seems they would be right!

I suppose it's OK if a person just wants to slob around in their own filth, and are miserly with soap, water, towels etc.

How filthy do you get? Are you a coal miner?

Today I have watched a film, made beans on toast for my lunch and made some birthday cards.
I had a bath yesterday. Not sure what filth I'm slobbing around in Hmm

NotMyCat · 20/09/2021 17:21

@CiaoForNiao exactly
I think it depends as well - I'm washing my face (and neck and ears) twice a day, my hands all the time and I use a bidet thing so.. it's not like I'm not seeing water!
Today I have sat at a desk for 9hrs

Jesus! Are you an expert on personal hygiene? No, I didn’t think so, just and over-opinionated rigid thinker!

@BetsyBigNose

The only time I shower daily is when I'm in hospital. At home I have a quick shower in the morning or a (much, much) longer bath in the evening, every other day. I only wash my hair twice a week, it just doesn't need it any more frequently; it doesn't get greasy and I'm not well enough to exercise so I rarely get even a little bit sweaty.

I spend a fair amount of time in hospital - usually around 3 weeks out of every 12 week period - and I think that it's a matter of being respectful to the Doctors and Nurses who need to examine various bits of your body, to ensure that you are clean and don't smell unpleasant. It's also important to me to shower and put on fresh PJs each morning as you're lounging around in the same PJs for 24 hours, eating in/on your bed and in the same room as around 5 other ladies - it usually smells a bit ripe anyway (you often have some ladies who have to use bedpans or commodes as they can't walk to the toilet). I would hate to be known as a 'smelly patient'!

Yup , I was wondering how some of the soap dodgers would cope in hospital . Where you are a total minger if you don't drag your sorry ass into the shower daily . Even if you are on oxygen !

@plinkplinkfizzer not necessarily - I was post op and told not to shower! Strip wash only until stitches out and not until I got home
I wasn't allowed to bend either so couldn't even wash my feet properly

irregularegular · 20/09/2021 18:33

I must admit I am finding it hard to understand why the "strip washers" think that is less faff/quicker. A thorough strip wash always seems extremely faffy and awkward to me on the rare occasions I've been forced to do it. So for me the choice would be either shower, or nothing much at all.

JorisBonson · 20/09/2021 18:35

Shower and wash my hair every morning. I'm quite a sweaty sleeper. Will have a shower or a bath even if I'm not going out.

Theriband · 20/09/2021 18:36

There's only two things smell of fish...(one of them is fish)

Yes I had my first strip wash in hospital . You quickly learn how to do those .

Because, as is always explained a million times on these threads, not everyone has a shower. Really not hard to understand.
speakout · 20/09/2021 18:38

I shower every other day.

I do a top to toe strip wash on days I don't have a shower.

Saoirse82 · 20/09/2021 19:12

@NuffSaidSam

'No matter what you think, you will smell.'

And so it starts.

No she won't.

Exactly. Some people don't sweat much, I have a nose like a blood hound and can smell things a mile off but I don't need to wear deodorant daily, I do most of the time but if I forget I don't sweat or smell if I don't though I probably would if I didn't wear it for several days in a row, I don't wear socks with my trainers and friends are amazed my feet don't smell but they dont sweat much so I've never had stinky feet. I do shower daily except on a Sunday when I have a bit of a lazy pj day and I definitely don't smell, just because you may smell after a day not showering @mypatronusisacat doesn't mean everyone does Confused

Is the other one Scampi n Lemon NikNaks?
LST · 20/09/2021 19:20

We all shower every other day. I wash my hair twice a week. The only time I showered everyday was when I worked on a fish bar.

Laladell · 20/09/2021 19:35

I shower once a day before work in the morning, depending what I'm doing that evening ill shower again but usually it's just the once.

If I live with a partner though (which i don't atm) I shower before work and after in the evening lol 😂

Not over the top at all are you. Blimey.
Glitterblue · 20/09/2021 22:00

I always have at least one shower a day with a hair wash, either before bed or in the morning. Sometimes both (but not a hairwash both times). I couldn't not shower every day or I wouldn't feel clean, but that's just my personal preference.

Newkitchen123 · 20/09/2021 22:04

I would find it easier to just shower. Every day for me. Miss the odd one now and then but generally every day
Antsinyourpanta · 20/09/2021 22:07

All the hygeine police on here need to listen to Jeremy Vine on radio 2. He had a guy on today who advocated washing your clothes once a year! (He did sound a bit like swampy to be fair!🤣)

speakout · 20/09/2021 22:09

Showering all over every day makes my skin dry. There are parts of my body that don't need washed every day- my knees or elbows for instance.
I grew up in a hoem where hot water was scarce, so learned to do a quick and efficient strip wash at an early age.
I find it easy.

CounsellorTroi · 20/09/2021 22:11

I wonder how the must shower every dayers would cope if there was another drought like in 1976.

LukeEvansWife · 20/09/2021 22:16

What an odd thing to say. If there was a huge drought, showering etc wouldn’t be the main priority. That doesn’t mean that the weekly washers are any better though
PumpkinKlNG · 20/09/2021 22:27

I shower every day, if I didn’t I absolutely would smell as I have sweat gland problems, I’m jealous of those that wouldn’t smell but I would, and I don’t see the point in washing all your “bits” daily why not just have a shower then? Would take the same amount of time! So yes I shower every day

CiaoForNiao · 20/09/2021 22:33

I'M GONNA SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE HARD OF HEARING AT THE BACK

NOT EVERYONE HAS A SHOWER SO HAVING A SHOWER INSTEAD OF A STRIP WASHING ISN'T AN OPTION FFS

I feel better now. As you were.
