So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

@seaandsandcastles

Despise me all you want Grin It’s the best outcome for our country and you’ll see that eventually.
Do enlighten us.
gibletjane · 19/09/2021 14:06

The C02 shortage is going to be catastrophic if that is not resolved ASAP

This is defo an issue

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 14:06

@Gwenhwyfar

"I think its lorry drivers and covid rather than brexit."

the lorry driver shortage is because of Brexit.

It isn't fully though, again, reducing it to being attributed just to or because of brexit won't help change anything.

Yes, many EU drivers went back (although there are notable shortages in some European countries too), not all because of brexit either- wages have improved for many in their home countries which is great progress, don't blame them for not coming back here.

Another main issue is that there are thousands waiting for their tests which were delayed due to covid, and conditions are crap.

bogoffmda · 19/09/2021 14:06

seandsandcastles - sadly with the shortage of drugs - some of us will not be alive to see your so called benefits.

It really is becoming that bad in the NHS - and we did not rely on low paid staff from overseas - people were paid exactly the same as everyone else in the NHS for their pay grade. YOu might argue the grading was wrong but that is a different point.

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 19/09/2021 14:06

There are good (ethical non racist) reasons for being both in and out of the EU. My social circle is a mix of leavers and remainers. (About 50/50 😂)

We are genuinely able to see both sides of the arguments from each other's points of view.

We accept that there is no wholly completely right answer and that the whole thing is very Grey with pros and cons. A bit like life.

A lot of you on this thread sound bonkers.

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 14:07

Also good news is we seemingly don't have a shortage of NHS frontine staff, as invariably on threads like this it's always used as an odd gotcha so there must be loads about!

Sarahlou63 · 19/09/2021 14:08

@MrsFin

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with Brexit. Other European countries are having similar problems.
No, they're not.
sst1234 · 19/09/2021 14:08

You are not wrong OP. Only Turkeys are still arguing that they didn’t vote for Xmas, after seeing this.

LyndzB · 19/09/2021 14:08

Voted to remain but don't despise those who voted to leave.

I live in a poor town and many of those who voted leave quite frankly don't give a shit about salmon and sparkling water.

You can despise them all you want but despising each other is what brought Brexit on in the first place.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 19/09/2021 14:08

I usually do my food shopping online and have noticed more and more things being unavailable, more and more substitutions.

However, I went into three supermarkets yesterday and was surprised at the huge gaps on the shelves. For the first time, it felt a bit scary. Not because we'll starve, but because our supply chain is so fragile. It reminded me of going shopping with my mum in the 70s! FWIW Morrison's and Tesco looked like they'd been looted, M&S were pretty well stocked in comparison.

Checkout staff said it was due to driver shortages. I suppose a combination of Brexit and covid tbf. I was reading that the cost of a shipping container has increased six-fold, and companies like John Lewis are now sourcing their own to avoid supply issues for Christmas stock.

VictoriaBun · 19/09/2021 14:08

Accept that Brexit it is playing it's part, but surely being in a world pandemic is the real reason ?

B00kMark · 19/09/2021 14:08

“There’s no limoncello!”

Mumsnet at it’s most mumsnetty.

vera99 · 19/09/2021 14:08

This. We are being played by incompetent idiots who are clueless as to where we are going. Johnson is every bit as bad as we were warned about. But hey he's not Corbyn eh....

The co2 shortage and rising gas prices are nothing to do with Brexit. It's a global issue.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:10

@lightand

We can choose to control our emotions. And accept that everyone is different.

People come from different viewpoints and have experienced different situations.

This is fine until their viewpoints are enforced due to a narrow majority if those expressing a viewpoint on one day kind of agreed with them (though nobody seems to know how much agreement there was between Brexiters) and are now making my life harder, less pleasant and more restricted.

Are they? Because whenever anyone asks this on eg twitter loads of Europeans say they aren’t having any problems.
rollonmatrix · 19/09/2021 14:12

Jesus Christ stop blaming Brexit for everything.
Co2 and gas shortages are nothing to do with Brexit. Yes we lack lorry drivers, but the big part of the issue is the pandemic stopped DVLA from doing lorry driver tests there is a massive back log.
Not to mention global warming, natural disasters every 5 seconds etc

Kleptaklunky · 19/09/2021 14:13

What's the point is despising someone who exercised their democratic right to vote in a referendum?

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 14:13

@bogoffmda

seandsandcastles - sadly with the shortage of drugs - some of us will not be alive to see your so called benefits.

It really is becoming that bad in the NHS - and we did not rely on low paid staff from overseas - people were paid exactly the same as everyone else in the NHS for their pay grade. YOu might argue the grading was wrong but that is a different point.

It's been bad for ages, anyone working here from the EU could stay, and they can continue to come over as healthcare workers. Like many British nationals who are leaving in droves, perhaps they just find working there a bit rubbish. So I don't know, is it:

A) the fault of brexit
B) the fact the NHS needs an overhaul desperately to attract and retain staff
C) a bit of both?

Who shall we blame:

A) the government who have known about the strain the NHS has been under for ages and somehow decided to make conditions even worse over the past few years, and one that knew about brexit and had time to try and plan
B) people who voted for brexit, many of which had reasons beyond omg foreigners get them out

I voted to remain, I think leaving was stupid, but everyone seems to be keen to give the government a free pass on failing so much because well because of brexit and those that voted for it innit.

Talktalkchat · 19/09/2021 14:13

@MapleMay11

I didn't vote for Brexit but there are no shortages at all here in the North West where I am and haven't been so far.
