To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

"No, they're not."

You are wrong, there is a pan European shortage of lorry drivers and this combined with the Covid pandemic is causing shortages in many countries.

WoozySnoozy · 19/09/2021 14:13

@rollonmatrix

Jesus Christ stop blaming Brexit for everything. Co2 and gas shortages are nothing to do with Brexit. Yes we lack lorry drivers, but the big part of the issue is the pandemic stopped DVLA from doing lorry driver tests there is a massive back log. Not to mention global warming, natural disasters every 5 seconds etc
Oh yeah that's a good point. They might not have enough fizz for the fizzy water.
HelloMrBond · 19/09/2021 14:14

All well and good complaining about the empty spaces on the food shelves, but what on earth has it got to do with Brexit? Are the current stock shortages in France, Germany et al also a result of Brexit? The mind boggles.....

Talktalkchat · 19/09/2021 14:14

No lorry drivers…. Despite it being a cheap way to train to get lifelong employment. Yes you are the issue. Let’s call a spade a spade.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:14
@Booknooks Sadly with rising prices and the cut to UC I think there will be families that go hungry and have to make difficult choices this winter.
Is it a possible upside that they won’t have to choose between food and heat as there’ll be no heating fuel either?

Plumtree391 · 19/09/2021 14:14

I wouldn't go as far as despising people who voted Brexit; at the time they thought they were making the right decision based on the information they were fed. Some have regretted it since.

There's no point in going around despising people, we are human beings and everyone makes errors of judgement sometimes.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing shortages in the supermarket. There aren't any down here (London area), at the moment as far as I can tell. I shop online and receive nearly everything I order.

From what I have read, there is a shortage of delivery drivers, many of whom were from EU countries and have returned home. Hopefully the problem will not last long.

rollonmatrix · 19/09/2021 14:14

@WoozySnoozy oh god not the fizzy water! How ever will we live. Grin

cookingisoverrated · 19/09/2021 14:15

Yep. We get to pay more for less choice going forward.

delilahbucket · 19/09/2021 14:15

YANBU
I also despise them when I consider how much I used to sell to the EU for work and how I've lost 30% of my business and income in an instant.

Rainbowheart1 · 19/09/2021 14:15

People were happy about brexit when it came to us being able to get the population vaccinated quickly and not having to share.

People are upset about empty shelves.

It’s normal, people like the positives and not the negatives, as with everything really, but it’s not realistic. You have to take both the good and bad.

It’s either a shame or lucky coincidence that brexit finished and the pandemic were around at roughly the same time. With the overlap it’s hard to distinguish what is responsible where.

Booknooks · 19/09/2021 14:16

Is £5k cheap? Bearing in mind you can't get a student loan for it so would either have to have the money upfront, or take out a personal loan for a substantial amount of cash? Why places don't do training schools and attach a return of service is baffling.
FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 14:17

I'm in the North East. No problems with the shelves and no substitutions in my online shops. I did have to pay a chunk more for cider vinegar a few weeks ago but chalked that up to first world problems.

I voted to remain so I don't have leave goggles on.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 14:17

@Viviennemary

Yes a few things are out of stock. I'm sure we'll cope. Goodness knows what folk like you would do if you ever had to suffer real hardship.
But we didn’t need to suffer even minor hardship! Vote Leave said this was all lies and project fear. It was going to be better, not coping without stuff, however possible that might be.
checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 14:18

@Biker47 your clueless too. I’m from the east end - my kids are brought up in a working class home. They are not what are you suggesting.

Stop trying to make your terrible choices feel comfortable by describing me as some stuck up Madam whose full of demands.

I’m the nurse that looks after you when you are bloody sick, stays late to make sure you get the right care and forfeits time with her children to do that.

And so what if I wanted to eat fucking salmon

Do you find despising people in general, helpful?
This
RIPIgglePiggle · 19/09/2021 14:18

YANBU I would agree with anyone who is still defending this nonsense. Especially those peddling the ridiculous ‘we all had it too good anyway’ argument.

I haven’t necessarily seen food shortages near us. It probably depends on where you are in the supply chain as some of the issues are lack of HGV drivers because we slung them all out. It turns out they weren’t scrounging and were crucial to the economy. Who knew ???

However we were in the lakes last week and so many cafes were shut due to lack of staff. Those that were open had long lists of staff vacancies in the window. The area is dependent on tourism for its economy which is dependent on immigration. Imagine voting to destroy your local economy. Crazy.

Although fortunately the government have some wonderful ideas for resolving the HGV driver shortage such as removing the safe driving hours limits and you may no longer be asked to prove you can actually reverse. Just blooming red tape anyway that stuff ConfusedHmm

whatistheworld · 19/09/2021 14:18

100% i actually hate the idiots that blame it on covid and still would vote Tory. Lost some friends because i just cant look at them now - idiots

BentBastard · 19/09/2021 14:19

People saying Brexit isn't the cause of shortages need to realise that Brexit will exacerbate any shortage. It will always be worse in the UK because we've set out to make it harder to supply us.

rollonmatrix · 19/09/2021 14:19

Oh and another reason why gas prices are rising. The fuel pipe from France to the U.K. had a massive fire... do you think that's down to Brexit? Maybe the French did it on purpose.... 🙃

caffeineanddryshampoo · 19/09/2021 14:19

Totally with you on this one.

luckylavender · 19/09/2021 14:20

@Rainbowheart1 - we could have done exactly the same vaccination programme had we still been in Europe. That lie has been completely debunked. And covering up the Brexit mess with Covid is exactly what the Vote Leave cabal in charge want us to see.

TarpaulinEyes · 19/09/2021 14:20

I've noticed a shortage of grips in the shops recently. Move on OP, it's done now.
checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 14:20

@Booknooks are you suggesting I am lying then?

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 14:20

Gas prices were set to rise prior to the fire which will increase gas prices further.

VelvetChairGirl · 19/09/2021 14:20

Brexit has ruined this country but its a 2 pronged attack, it wouldn't have been so bad if Corbyn got in to steer us through it and the pandemic.

obviously I voted remain and I am sure we will rejoin but I think it will take about 10 years or so of falling in the world before we do.
