To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

What with destructive climate change and the drums of war being played against China things aren't going to get better and I fear our old lives are drifting away and the future ain't looking good.

Yes, we have had a discussion about adjusting to no longer getting goods from China and the global financial changes from the company that impacts 2% of the Chinese economy about to go bankrupt.

Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 18:38

Op - so what meals are you planning because I don't believe you sit down and write a plan, then cant get anything, its ludicrous.

lannistunut · 19/09/2021 18:38

@Ilovegreentomatoes

You say you are a nurse so you must despise 50% of your patients. You really should not be in a profession like yours with that attitude its frightening.
They will be professional at work I'm sure.

Brexit voters really fucked things up for Britain. People are going to be cross.

I personally try hard not to despise/hate individuals who voted for it, but I do understand the anger about it.

twinningatlife · 19/09/2021 18:39

You're blaming Brexit for lack of salmon and you are also a covid nurse?! Not like we've had a global pandemic or anything which is causing shortages or anything......oh wait 🤔

Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 18:39

@FourTeaFallOut

Or, she could be sat with her arms folded at the table with just potatoes and green beans crying into the empty space that would have been the salmon?
Must be it , saddo!
TooBigForMyBoots · 19/09/2021 18:40

For those like @Mancity100 and @mustlovegin who haven't seen shortages, don't worry, they're coming to a shop near you soon. And will be around for a while.

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 18:40

@Ilovegreentomatoes does being a nurse or a doctor mean you are not entitled to personal feelings about people? I assure you we do have feelings about people like everyone else.

Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 18:41

The poor kids, no babybel or cocktail sausages in their lunch, wow

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 18:42

Bexiters...spectacularly missing the point...never goes out of fashion.

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 18:43

Or Brexiters even!

RIPIgglePiggle · 19/09/2021 18:43

@Ilovegreentomatoes

You say you are a nurse so you must despise 50% of your patients. You really should not be in a profession like yours with that attitude its frightening.
I’m in the public sector and I despise at least 50% of my clientele.

Also due to the shocking lack of nurses (again exacerbated by guess what oh yes Brexit) you wouldn’t give a stuff if she despised you as long as she was treating you.

OP you’d better give back all those claps you were given. You’re a nurse so you must behave like the angel that you are and not express any human emotions about the stupidity of the British people.

I know you actually wanted a pay rise in line with living standards but you can’t have that either

InTheMiddle23 · 19/09/2021 18:44

South west. One day there was no bread.

BritWifeInUSA · 19/09/2021 18:44

It’s not just because of Brexit. We are having shortages here in the US too. Last time I went grocery shopping - we go once a fortnight due to the distance we have to travel to the store - there was almost no bottled water with a sign saying customers are limited to one case per customer, most fresh fruits and vegetables were low or out of stock, there were no eggs, empty shelves of various dairy items. And it’s not just that one shop. It’s a common trend across the country.

malificent7 · 19/09/2021 18:44

I do agree op but there is a global shortage of CO2 which may account for sparkling water shortage. As they use it to stun animals before slaughter there may be a shortage of meat soon according to the radio...good reason to go veggie i rekon.

walksen · 19/09/2021 18:45

"You say you are a nurse so you must despise 50% of your patients. You really should not be in a profession like yours with that attitude its frightening."

Just over a third would be more like it.
@Ilovegreentomatoes does being a nurse or a doctor mean you are not entitled to personal feelings about people? I assure you we do have feelings about people like everyone else.
Of course. But despising over 50% of them is a bit strong.
Just like teachers are entitled to have feelings about the kids they teach but you wouldn’t want someone in post who despised 50% of their class.
In general people who do jobs that involve contact with the public do it better if they don’t positively hate the people they work with.

I find it particularly worrying because in general it is the poorer and less educated people who voted for Brexit so that means it’s disproportionately the poor and less educated she despises.

It’s all deflection. Far harder to say, ‘Fuck, this is shit than you might just have been right,’ than it is to say, ‘Haha posh twats wanting salmon!!!’ Race to the bottom is here and we’re all stuck in it, worse luck. Britain, the place where you’re proud to be able to cobble a meal together. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Time for a new prepping thread. Candles, batteries and always keep your car topped up and a petrol can in the garage.

KittyKel · 19/09/2021 18:46

It’s not just Brexit, it’s a global issue. Freight costs are through the roof, containers not available, many overseas countries still struggling with coronavirus. All leading to supply chain issues globally, not just here. Brexit hasn’t helped the shortage of HGV drivers which is contributing but again demand for drivers, has soared because of COVID and the race to online shopping before infrastructures were ready. But sure, use it as a reason to ‘despise’ Brexiteers if you want.

RIPIgglePiggle · 19/09/2021 18:46

@Creamsoda77

I have yet to find anything about Brexit that isn’t ludicrous.

I have also yet to see a Brexit supporter on this thread give one single tangible benefit to Brexit. One that has actually materialised.

FatCatThinCat · 19/09/2021 18:46

people really stopped contact with friends and family due to voting differently??

It's not just about voting differently though is it. My husband is a british scientist working in the EU. The referendum result was directly devastating for us. I've witnessed my wonderful husband crying for the first time in 30 years at the prospect of losing everything, of being cut off from his life's work. So yeah, I've cut off family, including my motther, who voted for this. Because you don't get to claim you love us and want to be in our lives while simultaneously doing things you know will harm us.

Thankfully none of my friends are stupid or racist enough to vote for brexit.

GlobalForce · 19/09/2021 18:47

Veggie diet foods is struggling too, almonds are one example. What will the vegans and veggies do if everyone else wants their foods all of the time?

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 18:47

Laughing at the idea that because I’m a nurse I’m not ‘allowed’ to have any feelings about Brexit.

Honestly you lot are a bunch of comedians

My children's school emailed last week to tell parents that they can't stick to the published menu anymore due to food shortages. Midlands.

I understand that it's not anywhere near the same as children starving, but it doesn't take a genius to see why that might cause some issues for families.

Applesonthelawn · 19/09/2021 18:48

You are latching on to a reduction in choice at the supermarket to justify a rant about Brexit and target those who voted in favour of Brexit in a democratic referendum. That is unreasonable, ill-informed and can only have negative consequences. Fill your life with hate if you really must but don't try to spread it over the internet.
