To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

This. Since when is being able to cobble something together from stuff you don’t really want, the stuff that dreams are made of. Why are some people so happy to race to the bottom??

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 19/09/2021 18:19

@checkedcloth if you can't get sparkling water is a soda stream an option ? You could probably pick one up on Facebook.
I drink loads of sparkling water and would be miffed if I couldn't get any. Yes I'd live but it stops me drinking more unhealthy options.

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 18:20

@Colourcones do you really not understand the point? Of course there is water, and food. That will continue to be the case whatever happens. But the point is that Brexiters said that things would be better (not the same, and not worse) after Brexit, and this discussion is about how that does not appear to be the case on present evidence. One example (among many) being what is mentioned by the OP, a decrease in choice of products in shops.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 19/09/2021 18:20

"Yes there are shortages but where I live it's not so bad that we can't cobble a meal together."

I'm glad Brexit has brought us to a place where we can cobble a meal together. I can't help thinking we were promised something a bit better though.

HarrietPierce · 19/09/2021 18:21

"Why are some people so happy to race to the bottom??"
Because the cult of Brexit does not allow them to admit that it is a massive shit show.

CreepyPasta · 19/09/2021 18:21

I do worry for the mental health of some posters on here. Some of the posts! ‘Despise people every day’ ‘thick cunts’ etc

Have people really stopped contact with friends and family due to voting differently?? I don’t know of anyone IRL who would do that due to different political views.

It’s another world on here.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 19/09/2021 18:25

To be fair, whilst the impact of Brexit has been almost entirely negative for most of us thus far, I do have family members in minimum wage jobs who are now able to screw a bit extra out of their desperate employer. I imagine if you're in haulage or hospitality or care, Brexit is shaping up as you hoped. With fewer foreigners to compete for the lower paid, lower skilled jobs, they can name their price and some food shortages are fine by them. Obviously, it won't last because inflation will put paid to any gains, and EU employees will be back in due course, but it must feel good right now.

GlobalForce · 19/09/2021 18:25

Yes I saw a man got into a terrible rage about it, he was jumping up and down in his seat, he said he was never going to speak to certain family members again over it and in the end (I think he was tearing up) during and up and down in his seat thing, he did not sit down and ran away.

I felt sorry for him and his family.

I know people that have stopped talking to family and Friends, it's normally over bad behavior, not treating them well and getting personal, not beliefs.

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2021 18:25

@CreepyPasta yes we have indeed cut off contact with a number of people. This is not for us a purely political issue, it is more fundamental than that. It is about the type of person you are and the type of world you hope to see. (The people we knew who voted Leave no doubt also have no wish to speak to us, we have been very vocal in our beliefs , and we left Britain in the end. So maybe they actually all cut us off rather than the other way round! No way to tell!)

I haven’t stopped speaking to the Brexit voters in my life, but it has made me see them in a different light. It’s made me realise that we don’t see the world the same, that we have some real ideologies. It’s also lessened my respect for them in many quiet ways. I don’t argue with them, I haven’t stopped speaking to them, but they have lost some of their shine in my eyes.
Stormyseasallround · 19/09/2021 18:27

*ideological differences

tolosewithin · 19/09/2021 18:29

I'm still waiting for the list of foods to make two weeks of meals for £22

lannistunut · 19/09/2021 18:29

@Lampzade

Let us all be honest; Brexit is a fucking disaster
This is a good summary Grin

I try not to despise people, but am very angry Brexit happened, and that it happened in the ridiculous way that Johnson chose.

It is shit, it has weakened Britain badly, and for nothing.

PersephoneJames · 19/09/2021 18:29

Yes, admittedly an in law rather than blood relation, but I am so much happier not having to listen to her ignorant racist bile and regurgitation of meaningless Boris sound bites. All three of her grandchildren are married to Europeans and she happily voted to make things harder for them because she was annoyed she got a brown doctor in hospital.

Meanwhile, some of the world's richest men have jollies in rockets and have increased the share of their wealth massively in the pandemic. The just getting by and the poor and the middle classes that are going to find that big chunks of their wealth will evaporate to pay for their lifestyles their children's futures, and we are squabbling over the crumbs that fall from their tables. You can bet your bottom dollar whose side the rich are on here and it wasn't Corbyn's.

Boris and his backers love the culture wars and disaster capitalism whilst our countries go to shit. What with destructive climate change and the drums of war being played against China things aren't going to get better and I fear our old lives are drifting away and the future ain't looking good.

Brexshit is just Act 1 of this grim drama playing out. Let's hope I'm wrong but anyone with time and inclination to post on an internet forum aren't one of the elites. So we are all the losers here and our culture war scrapping and flag-waving plastic patriotism never ends well. A curse on the malign powers who unleashed these demons. May they rot in hell.

@MapleMay11

I didn't vote for Brexit but there are no shortages at all here in the North West where I am and haven't been so far.
I am in the North West too - one of our supermarkets had no fresh stuff. No meat, cheese etc. Another was lacking in many areas
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 19/09/2021 18:32

I’m in the uk until the day my youngest leaves school and not a day longer. Brexit and the thick people who voted for it have damaged the place beyond repair.

@checkedcloth

I do despise them. The country has been royally fucked over and I cannot fathom what it will be like for our children.

I’m nurse in the NHS - the impact of Brexit on our and social care staffing, and we have no blood bottles.

Despising them is actually too kind on reflection

Lovely attitude for a nurse. Good to know that you despise some of your patients.
Ilovegreentomatoes · 19/09/2021 18:34

OP you are coming across as a snobbish entitled twat.End of.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/09/2021 18:34
@MapleMay11there are loads of shortages where I am in the N West. The local co ops are literally half empty and have been for weeks now and the fuel stations just over the border in N Wales are empty this week Shock.
Co-op here too. According to a friend the depots of coop and sainsburys are near each other and Sainsburys have offered more pay so drivers are moving

Ilovegreentomatoes · 19/09/2021 18:35

You say you are a nurse so you must despise 50% of your patients. You really should not be in a profession like yours with that attitude its frightening.
