To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

@FourTeaFallOut

And it's that'll 'I'm alright, jack' mentality that pervades this country now. Vile.

Well, tbf, it sounds like the op will muddle through.

OP will. Others mightn't.

Is that the best we should hope for for this country? To muddle through with a poorer standard of living than before?

What about the sunlight uplands? What about the £350 million a week?

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 19/09/2021 18:05

But Brexit can eff off. Dh voted for it, it got to the point where we could not discuss it without arguing. He bought all the spin, which is surprising as he's not a stupid man.

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 18:05

@Creamsoda77

im intriguded what meals people are planning that they cant get the ingredients for?? Salmon and caviar??
Not sure why you can’t understand it.

I am at home in the kitchen. I write a meal plan.
I go to the supermarket and said foods to make the meals are not there. You cannot rely on the supplies.

As others have said it’s well documented in the news that there are issues with the supply chain. Not sure why you having cocktail sausages in your Morrison’s negates that.

The country was always independent, what are you on about?

GlobalForce · 19/09/2021 18:06

BigGreen

Sometimes they price remains the same and the package has decreased.

I remember when my children were at school you could get 30 mini bars of chocolate in a bag to share when it was their birthday. I was looking the other day and the bags of mini chocolate bars are very small now.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 18:06

Ofgs Hmm

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 18:06

@checkedcloth

It was the packed lunch stuff that was annoying. I usually get 20 cocktail sausages and some babybel.

Neither there

They're shite foods anyway. Sounds like Brexit has done you a favour.
Stasiland · 19/09/2021 18:07

Love the faux concern for the wages of haulage drivers. And the care workers. But undoubtedly most brexiteers voted for the tories who have worked to destroy employment rights over the years thus preventing workers from protesting against poor work conditions and wages. Same tories who implemented austerity. Same tories who were quite happy to continue with the north south divide, and the blatant under investment in left behind areas but chose to blame the EU for their own inept policies. But yeah the leavers trust them to make a decent job of brexit Shock

CrotchetyQuaver · 19/09/2021 18:07

@checkedcloth

If this was a case of swapping bagels for wraps then I can accept that. I am talking about either not having the item at all or only the very expensive version or ‘mega’ sized version available.
I'm sorry but I found this so funny... what's wrong with ordinary big standard bread? Grin Yes we have gaps on shelves here but other than struggling to buy my favourite large bags of Maltesers we've not had to go without.
Blue565 · 19/09/2021 18:08

I’ve resented them since the vote

checkedcloth · 19/09/2021 18:09

Thanks for the outstanding contribution @girlmom21

@DaphneDeloresMoorhead my dp too. We can’t talk about it either but then he wasn’t that into politics.

FlatteredFool · 19/09/2021 18:09

We are in the North West. Dd has said there's hardly anything for lunch at school since term started. The head has sent out an email apologising for the supply issues. The local Co-Op has had shortages for weeks and weeks now. Sometimes it's bakery goods, sometimes crisps, sometimes drinks, and now fruit and veg. Frozen peas and frozen broccoli were not to be found a few weeks back. There's no Cirio Passata Rustica at Waitrose anymore. That's been missing a few weeks too. And Mexicana cheese. Baby cauliflowers,

fourminutestosavetheworld · 19/09/2021 18:11

@Creamsoda77

Salmon is an expensive meal so i only buy it occasionally. Personally think its a bit too entitled to moan about salmon and sparkling water shortages, my heart bleeds ...
You sound a bit silly. It's quite obvious the thread is about worrying shortages, of all sorts of things, and the fact that Brexit is currently partially responsible for making our lives worse not better.

Maybe you don't give a shit about salmon. Use your imagine and pretend it's something you do care about, because that could be next couldn't it.

I realise that people who voted for Brexit think it will be worth it in the end and I hope they're right, but right now it's impacting many aspects of the supply chain and people are quite worried about how much worse it might get.

JassyRadlett · 19/09/2021 18:11

So great that Brexit is going so swimmingly. Love in particular how the narrative has shifted from ‘sunlit uplands’ to ‘well we’re not actually starving so what’s the problem?’

SusieBob · 19/09/2021 18:12

@Iheartbaby

I voted for brexit and I’m happy I did, so a few shelves are empty, so what. You can’t build an economy on cheap labour from abroad, it’s not fair on British workers who have crap wages and crappy rights. I’m hoping a lot of industries now will have to start treating workers better with better wages and better rights.
Mwha. Ha. Ha.
JassyRadlett · 19/09/2021 18:13

(According to a mate who works in a major port it’s only going to get worse; they have no capacity left and things arrive on ships at a much faster rate than there are hauliers to take them away.)

Stasiland · 19/09/2021 18:13

@HomeSliceKnowsBest NW here where there are shortages. Maybe send us some broccoli that isn’t soft and mouldy or meat/ fruit that isn’t close to its sell by date.

Colourcones · 19/09/2021 18:14

I do complain about stubbing my toe and all that other stuff mentioned . Just thought that lack of sparkling water might not be a problem to mention as we actually have lots of water.
( I've been involved with some overseas water projects so forgive my concern for those that don't have this privilge)
Sorry gone a bit off topic here.

JassyRadlett · 19/09/2021 18:14

It’s better to have crap wages, crap rights (still the Tories after all) and also crap food?

They’ll quietly set up some special visa categories soon like they have for SAWS.

SusieBob · 19/09/2021 18:15

@FatAnkles

I voted for Brexit.

Yes there are shortages but where I live it's not so bad that we can't cobble a meal together.

Despise me all you wish Smile

Being able to cobble a meal together! Great! What a thing to aspire for.

Are you not a tiny bit annoyed that it turns out that Boris and Farage and co were actually lying to you all along?

Stormyseasallround · 19/09/2021 18:16

As mentioned above, I can be both hugely concerned about lack of clean drinking water in 3rd world countries AND pissed off that I can’t get sparkling water here. It’s not an either/or.
Suzysunflower · 19/09/2021 18:16

YANBU and I am totally with you. There are lots of shortages, thing like chicken, vinegar, mineral water, many vegetables.

Yet another reason to despise Brexit and brexiters.

Stasiland · 19/09/2021 18:17

@Iheartbaby which party got rid of those workers’ rights ?
Cut legal aid ? Changed the way that unions can operate ? Wasn’t the Labour Party either Grin (which I appreciate isn’t perfect)
