To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop

So little stock on the shelves. Makes the weekly shop a complete nightmare as you just cannot meal plan anymore.

I didn’t vote for this absolute shit storm.

@Notthemessiah

Wages have been increased by some companies in order to poach drivers from other companies, moving the shortages over to their businesses. Great for individual drivers; of no benefit to the rest of us.

Why do you think there is suddenly a shortage of drivers?

There isnt a "sudden" shortage of drivers
cardibach · 19/09/2021 16:31

@Fizzysalmon

Go on…what’s funny about them?

Many things are humorous about the ineffective, outdated system the EU had, there's plenty out there to read if you are interested.

Well maybe. But if farmers were being squeezed before, the loss of a subsidy, however badly managed, isn’t going to help, is it?
ElspethFlashman · 19/09/2021 16:32

There are no shortage of blood bottles in Ireland.

I'm a nurse and there's been absolutely nothing about shortages in our region and absolutely no issues with supply.

There have also been no particular gaps on shelves. Very rarely.

Our government started actively circumventing the UK a couple of years ago for supply routes and putting a lot of investment in other routes and it feels like definitely something is working out OK.

Stormyseasallround · 19/09/2021 16:32

@FourTeaFallOut

Malnourishment here can be dealt with from food banks, prescriptions from the NHS, free school dinners etc etc etc. All of which are shit and unacceptable, but nowhere near as grim and unsolvable as they are in the third world

Hmm Is this the gotcha that you are going with, really?

I give up with all of this - the point, my point, is that there are real problems and fucking whinging and most of the current shortages are the latter. It's legitimate whinging. It's a fucking shame. We had everything at our fingertips all the time and that has been disrupted.

Walking to another shop is not akin to poverty, poor housing and I'll health.

I just haven't got the energy to march your level of vitriol for people who voted differently to myself for salmon and fizzy water, you clearly do, knock yourself out. But I'm not going to pretend nipping to another shop is a hardship.

You’re wilfully ignoring what many people are saying about it not being about the fucking salmon. The salmon is symbolic of the fact that Brexit has brought no discernible benefits, but clear disadvantages. We are literally worse off, and all you can say is, ‘Walk to another shop.’ 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

@Fizzysalmon did you name change for this thread or is it a fantastic coincidence?

"Natural rubber with its unique properties such as high durability, flexibility, and water resistance is invaluable for a wide range of products. These include high-performance auto and aircraft tires, electronic cables, and medical devices. No direct replacement material that possesses all these properties is currently available on the market."

@Notthemessiah

Well, I see a problem with employers exploiting workers, yes. I just see lots of better ways to deal with that than cutting ourselves off from frictionless trade. Can’t you?

Such as? One of the conditions for remaining in the EU was their fundamental right for the free movement of workers. This was an absolute red line, as anyone who followed the various negotiations over the past decade will tell you. Please tell me how we could have remained in the EU (for your frictionless trade) but still somehow managed to wriggle out of this (then go back in time and tell David Cameron, as I'm sure he'd quite like to have known how to do this too).

I don’t want to remove free move moment. Free movement doesn’t mean exploitation. What an odd viewpoint. We stop exploiting workers by ensuring employers pay sensible rates. To everyone, both British born and otherwise. Obviously.
Booknooks · 19/09/2021 16:34

@bogoffmda

Booknooks - are you joking. A shortage of NHS staff - from care homes to nurses, technicians to doctors etc.

No matter how much money you put into the NHS - every human has a physical limit as to what they can do. I don't want the monies I want a break - where no one calls me from work begging me to come in and anaesthetise another list because it it cancer patients and they know you are in the country and don't say ignore the phone - withheld numbers or numbers not in contact book etc. Was allegedly on holiday last week - phone call every day somtimes x3 per day.

This was occurring pre Covid as people could not afford the £10K it was going to cost them to stay in the country. Now it is worse.

This is Brexit related and exacerbated by Covid - whilst many have been furloughed and worked from home - the call to get back to work in the NHS is like red rag to a bull.

That 3% pay award has just disappeared as 1.25% will go back to the Govt as increased NI. At the rate we are going 54% of my pay will go back to the govt as tax - ffffffs.

Okay sure, but brexit isn't to blame for an nhs that has been sinking for years and years with no light at the end of the tunnel.
Weirdwonders · 19/09/2021 16:35

No tonic water? However will you cope?

Race to the bottom, politics of envy nonsense. I almost wish I could sue Brexit voters for so obviously ruining our quality of life for no discernible benefit. We’ve lost so much. We’ve even pissed off the French and let’s be honest, the only reason you pricks voted for Brexit in the first place was to stop the migrant crossings and now we have less control over even that! Own goals left right and centre.

cardibach · 19/09/2021 16:35

@Mancity100

Like I said I work all over and shelves are not empty far from it
Bloody hell @Mancity100 give it up. It’s an accepted fact by industry experts that there are shortages, never mind the evidence of our own eyes.
Notthemessiah · 19/09/2021 16:37

So obvious and yet it simply hasn't happened. Don't you wonder why?

whatistheworld · 19/09/2021 16:37

@Mancity100

Just been on my sainsbury's account and I can get various types of tonic water and salmon
doesn't mean it will turn up!!!
cardibach · 19/09/2021 16:38

But I'm not going to pretend nipping to another shop is a hardship
Neither is anyone else, @FourTeaFallOut
We are saying it’s a symptom of something that will get worse, and we are angry about those who caused it.

OldWivesTale · 19/09/2021 16:38

I despise the cunts when I take my dogs to the vets before I go to visit my dad in France and it now costs me 500 quid (250 each) to get totally unnecessary health certificates; that's more than the cost of the eurotunnel. Also when I see a summer job working at an animal sanctuary in Spain that would be perfect for my DD but then it says, "applicants from EU countries only."

yep this 100% I wish i could sue the Government as they have taken away my freedom of movement. I wanted to retire to France.

Weirdly lots i have spoken to wanted to get rid of the Muslims and those that dress differently so voted for Brexit!!

we now have a free movement deal with India!!!

No, I don’t. It’s the bloody system set up for the benefit of the 1%. I’d like to change that. However brexit makes that worse, not better, especially in Britain which seems to have been captured by extreme Tories…
cardibach · 19/09/2021 16:43

@Mancity100

You do get the milk comment was a joke
Are you espousing this system at all?
To despise those that voted for Brexit when I’m doing my weekly shop
Porridgeislife · 19/09/2021 16:43

@seaandsandcastles

Despise me all you want Grin It’s the best outcome for our country and you’ll see that eventually.
Could you please let me know of one, current demonstrable benefit of Brexit?
Sprostongreen21 · 19/09/2021 16:44

@MapleMay11

I didn't vote for Brexit but there are no shortages at all here in the North West where I am and haven't been so far.
Been shortages for weeks round my way: Greater Manchester. The local coop was hit hard for ages with loads of empty shelves and still has empty shelves randomly. I shop in aldi their stocks are up and down too. Not wide spread but defo noticeable.

I’ve a friend who works for a large clothing company their stock has been affected and deliveries much smaller than normal for weeks now.

Bit don't you think it a bit rude, in a world were there is such food insecurity that people starve to death with startling frequency, to make nipping off to another shop for salmon your symbol of Brexit hardship? And then to complain when people suggest this might come across as a first world problem...

As I say, I'm out.

BananaPB · 19/09/2021 16:44

Very predictable answers.

Brexit was supposed to lead to an increase in our quality of lives and businesses booming so people are entitled to be pissed off that we've taken a massive step backwards. We live in the capitalist first world. It's not unreasonable to expect our supermarkets to have stock of most products even if it's a first world product like sparkling water.

Very predictable that some people would say no stock problems where they are so not a problem. Even the Johnson government have assigned a department to protect the food supply. That famously slow to react PM. He knows that Xmas is round the corner and he can't fuck up this year too and a food shortage would be a bigger shit show than last year. Not everyone can drive around and upgrade their food items and together with higher energy prices etc it's vital that this is tackled.

It's not a case or buying British food either. British food manufacturers often need other components like CO2 which come from overseas.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/09/2021 16:47

I mean, go with the blood vial shortage for your symbol. Something most remainers can get behind without rolling their eyes.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 19/09/2021 16:49

OP yes you served on the frontline like many others but stop using it as your get out card whenever you moan about something its getting tiresome.

HarrisMcCoo · 19/09/2021 16:52

@mustlovegin

It's just sad to watch from abroad what is happening to the UK

Don't feel sorry for us. We are doing fine

🙊 great sense of humour there👀😂
rhonddacynontaf · 19/09/2021 16:58

I always say to DH that my unwavering belief in Britain voting to remain died on polling day, when I saw a line of pensioners out with their walking frames and mobility scooters to vote, hundreds and hundreds of them in greater numbers than I had ever seen in any other election voting centre.

I knew then.

They have utterly fucked us. And themselves because their NHS and end of life care will be utterly fucked. They can't even get a blood test now. Do you know how many old people get blood tests every week? Shitloads.
