To not want to read the graphic details of James Bulger's abduction in a chain email?

And not only have it sent to me by my, usually sensible, sister but to have to listen to it being read out on air by some numpty local DJ this morning just because he'd received it via Facebook and today's 'Time Tunnel' year (music played from a particular year) was 1993 (the year the abduction happened). He gave no warning of the details it contained and how horrific they are.

Has anyone else received it? I don't have a copy any more as I deleted it straight away but it basically recaps on the James Bulger case but goes into graphic detail of what his abductors did to him. It then goes on to say that they are due to be released, given new identities and a new life in Australia and we should add our names and forward it on to people. At some point it said it will be sent as a petition to, I can't remember exactly, but presumably to keep them in prison for ever.

It's a chain email and I found it so distasteful to post such horrific details about the poor little lads last hours. There surely must be more appropriate ways to get the point across? Am I being unreasonable? Most people already know that he was taken, tortured and left on a railway line. Isn't that horrific enough? It just seemed so pointless and it's something I can't get out of my head now I've read it.

?I dont want to start a witch hunt, they have been tried and done their punishment?. ? What annoys me most is one of the
mothers is a childminder under a new identity and has her son at the house at times when she is childminding.?

What a contradictory post!

And you know this information how exactly? Read it in the news of the world or an equivalent trashy tabloid did you? it?s because of people like you that this mother, and the rest of the family, have had to be given new identities. .

edam · 05/12/2007 18:44

Santa, I know at least one of the killers is in a different country. If the childminder info is in the chain email, I suspect it's been made up.

I hate chain mails. I got one last week claiming that British schools were stopping teaching the Holocaust because it could offend Muslims. The chain mail had been sent to loads of peoople. It took me about two seconds to find out the true facts on Google (which I then forwarded to the person who chain mailed me). I just wish that people would think/check before forwarding this stuff.

I got it too on FB from someone sensible BUT I do think that those two walls pretty much spam people. I don't show the super wall on my page anyway. I'm going to delete it now.

I'm pretty dubious of the accuracy of the email anyway

islandofsodor · 05/12/2007 18:50

I got this email last week from someone in my local branch NCT. I used to be a committee memebr and it came from someone who emails branch info. I wasn't best pleased but at least I think it only went out to volunteers not ordinary members.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/12/2007 18:54

Oh ffs! I thought that chain letter had long gone since their release. Really awful stuff. Havent checked facebook for a while so i dont know if i've been sent it....I blardy hope not.

I also agree with what Wannabe said, and Turquoise's very eloquent friend said.

Haven't read all the posts, sorry. I got that on facebook tonight & it has made me cry. Can't stop thinking about him, probably as my ds is the same age.

YANBU. It's uneccesary for this sort of thing to be passed around, to put it mildy. I'm so glad I got rid of my 'Funwall' and 'Superwall' a while ago, they're only used for porn and sick jokes.

If my sister sent it to me I'd be telling her exactly what I thought of her.

for the record a lot of the 'detail' that featured in that chain letter came from the twisted imaginations of tabloid journalists and simply never happened. this is an interesting account from [http://www.guardian.co.uk/bulger/article/0,,889804,00.html Blake]] Morrison

mm22bys · 05/12/2007 19:18

Haven't read the whole thread, but I got the email today, from a friend in Australia. I think they have all got their wires crossed - I googled the judge, and her "ruling" actually came from 2001, so all those panicky people in Australia should do a tiny bit of research and not get so panicky that these two murderers are on their shores.

I agree too, that it is way too graphic, but there are inaccuracies even in the email's description of what they did to him...

I just deleted it, and am not going to forward it on...

Milliways · 05/12/2007 19:18

I received this as well today! Awful

Someone at work was ranting yesterday about how one of the boys was working in her local McDonalds!! Maybe she had just received this too & was believing any local rumour.

I hate to believe a 10 yr old could NEVER be allowed to try & re-start a decent life.

meglet · 05/12/2007 19:21

Well said milliways.

Totally agree with you.

geekymummy · 05/12/2007 19:53

People who forward such tat - have they not heard of Google, snopes.com or truthorfiction.com?

Or is checking out evidence an alien concept???
