Does wearing a signet ring mean you're posh

So I've got feelings for one of my colleagues and I was speaking to my friend and mentioned how he wears a signet ring. Friend said I bet he's posh. It this true? I admit I don't really know anyone else in my life who wears one but I just wonder whether it's common to wear one. By the way there's nothing wrong with being posh, I'm not bothered if they are or they are not.

It's just a ring

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 15/09/2021 18:33

Definitely not posh.

I’d say the opposite.

megletthesecond · 15/09/2021 18:34

The opposite tbh.

TootaLaFruit · 15/09/2021 18:34

Far more markers to someone being posh than a signet ring! The only people I know who wear one are either a) proper posh (estates, inheritance etc) or b) trying to appear posh.
But for what it’s worth, if you’re not sure - then he’s probably not. If you like him, it doesn’t matter.

edwinbear · 15/09/2021 18:34

Del boy wore one didn't he?

thecognoscenti · 15/09/2021 18:35

No, it means you want people to think you're posh.

Lime37 · 15/09/2021 18:35

I thought signet rings where chavey

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 15/09/2021 18:36

Depends if it says Elizabeth Duke on the box...

QueenBee52 · 15/09/2021 18:36

it means he likes the ring..

nothing else 🙄

cherrytreecottage · 15/09/2021 18:37

I've worked with some men who went to private school & they all wear a signet on their pinky. I think it's a status and symbolises family heritage, wealth etc.

RunningStrong · 15/09/2021 18:37

When I was young it was said it meant they were gay. No idea if that's true, probably not I'd guess, but perhaps your friend heard the same and that's why she mentioned it?

thetaleunfolds · 15/09/2021 18:38

I’d say opposite too. A few decades ago maybe it was more upper class but these days I’d definitely see it as tacky and chavvy, sorry.

villamariavintrapp · 15/09/2021 18:38

Yes I think it's for pricks who want you to think they're higher status etc..

Simonjt · 15/09/2021 18:38

It means nothing more than him liking the ring

BigSandyBalls2015 · 15/09/2021 18:39

It’s very 80s Hmm

actiongirl1978 · 15/09/2021 18:39

When I was at uni, all the posh boys wore them. I mean really posh, lots of money from country estatea etc.

19lottie82 · 15/09/2021 18:40

Yes I think it's for pricks who want you to
think they're higher status etc..

Really? 😂

Aprilx · 15/09/2021 18:40

I don’t think it means anything.

BrilliantBetty · 15/09/2021 18:41

It can do. I used to work in finance and the 'old boys' brigade from Harrow etc. did indeed wear stupid little signet rings on their pinky. It is a marker.

There's another kind of chavy ring (sovereign?! Can't remember) that is the opposite of posh. Worn on middle or index finger I think.

HalfTermHalfTerm · 15/09/2021 18:44

Depends if he bought it or inherited it really. And then if the person he inherited it from also inherited it Wink

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/09/2021 18:44

My DH wears his dad's old one as a wedding ring. They're not posh.

harriethoyle · 15/09/2021 18:45

If it's been bought for them, usually posh. If they've bought it themselves, usually not. In my experience anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

KaycePollard · 15/09/2021 18:48

Does it have his family crest on it? That’s the difference between Argos jewellery and posh.

pumpkinnut · 15/09/2021 18:49

He wears it on his pinky
