To feel I can’t holiday abroad again?

I feel really guilty using air travel (although it’s so easy!) and used to travel by train through Europe wherever I could. Had a lovely trip planned in 2020 taking in several countries - but all went to pot!

Inter-Europe travel feels very dodgy now with Covid and lack of fresh air etc in carriages. Planes feel safer (shorter trips and good air circulation) but I’m too guilt-ridden because of the environmental impact. Cruises seem just as bad!

I can’t see a way of planning a safe and ethical holiday abroad now. AIBU? How are people justifying it?

What I don't understand is why they won't actually scrap PCRs for another month or so. How about everyone who is still traveling before half term hits? Not all travel is done by families going on holiday to Tenerife.

Where I live, new travel rules have to be implemented within 48 hours. Because no one can predict the future, so if they've decided something will be safe in a month, it's safe now.

If you're getting rid of PCRs purely because of the cost - get rid of them now. Allow people to continue working or travelling for emergencies without the extra cost on top. No one is even checking these tests anyway, so why wait 1 month + to discard them?

The only possibly answer is that all their friends who run these testing scams still have a few thousand kits to sell so they need to be used up before they bring in the more affordable ones.

The change in testing only relates to returning to the U.K.. Many countries and airlines still require testing for entry.

I obviously meant the Day 2 PCR tests.
Which is currently the only added cost for many, many people who travel to/from countries where testing is either free, or not even required if you've been vaccinated.

@EileenGC I meant mainly outdoors. Been to Basque Country and Lanzarote and didn’t see much difference between uk and Spain.

This is a concert last night in madrid. It could easily be any uk festival seeing that there are no restrictions. And no , it’s not because it’s pombo. You see her stories and barely anyone is wearing face masks

But when was outdoors mask wearing ever a thing in the UK? You can't compare the two because it was never even advised in the UK, whereas for a whole 10 months, wearing a mask was the only way to get through your front door in Spain.

They are not comparable, and understandably people in Spain have stopped wearing masks outdoors because they're no longer required or necessary. Wearing masks outdoors was never really such an impactful measure unless applied to very crowded spaces.

Their vaccination rates are absolutely amazing - 76% of the population is fully vaccinated. UK currently stands at 66%. I wouldn't be wearing a mask outside either in Spain.
