Neighbour asking us not to buy takeaways

Ribrabrob · 09/09/2021 14:28

Very recently moved house and have no working oven (should be ready by Friday) so we’ve unfortunately been relying on takeaways/eating out. We are also still sorting things out and kitchen is one of the last things to do. Not ideal but the end is in sight.

Neighbour introduced themselves on the first day, seemed very nice and friendly.

Today I came home, coffee and sandwich in hand, to him calling me over and saying he’s noticed we’ve had a lot of takeaways since we’ve moved and could we not do so. Apparently his 8 year old daughter sees and asks why she can’t have one.

I explained the above and said we don’t really have much choice right now, but that from the weekend we should have an oven etc. he seemed ok about it.

He wasn’t rude when asking but aibu to think he’s very nosey? And that he can’t dictate what we eat?! For info, none of the takeaways have been delivered, all collected by us so it’s not like a delivery driver is knocking on his door or anything.

@Kpo58

Maybe see if you can get a local ice-cream van to visit you daily too. Grin

That's crazy - the cheek of him asking you that! Id order more takeaways and ignore him!

Whammyyammy · 09/09/2021 14:42

What a weird request. Point blank, sorry I'll do as i please

Avanacho · 09/09/2021 14:43
Confused

Keep on ordering for another week, especially those with big branded packaging. Knock on his door with all the recycling and ask if you could dump it in his recycling box.

What a weirdo!

RubyGoat · 09/09/2021 14:43

@BruceAndNosh

Are you ordering an entire meat pie each?

He definitely needs to learn to say no to his daughter. If he mentions it again, perhaps say you're so glad he's offering the use of his kitchen facilities as you're pretty sick of takeaway yourself, & the cost is getting a bit much. When can you drop round a casserole for him to pop in for you? So kind...

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/09/2021 14:43

Welcome to the neighbourhood OP.😱👾😱

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 09/09/2021 14:44

@Still1nLove

Offer to pick some up for his dd too 😝
But that’s what he wants isn’t it? It’s a massive hint that’s gone straight over OP’s head.
fruitbrewhaha · 09/09/2021 14:45

That is the funniest neighbour request I've seen on here.

"Can you not enjoy yourself as much? we may be jealous"

TableFlowerss · 09/09/2021 14:45

There’s no words for the level of madness this situation falls in to.

This has to be one of the most fucking bizarre things I’ve read on here.

🤯🤯 sounds like a bludy crack pot. Steer clear from him!

LaBellina · 09/09/2021 14:45

I would have laughed in his face, said ‘nice joke, neighbour, you’re a funny one’ and gone on my merry way without explaining him anything. He sounds completely nuts tbh.

Neonplant · 09/09/2021 14:45

No way is anyone that entitled? Utterly mad.

Crimeismymiddlename · 09/09/2021 14:45

Oh wow, what an insane ask. You should have just laughed, but I understand he put you on the spot and the reaction is to appease the new neighbour, so not to cause problems. I can predict that this will not be the last unreasonable request he will have.

Ribrabrob · 09/09/2021 14:46

I don’t think he was joking because of the way he said it but I’m really hoping it was Grin

I shouldn’t have explained myself to him, no, but I’m not the most assertive and to be honest I felt a bit embarrassed. It was just all very odd.

I WISH I had such a neighbour! It’d be a laugh winding them up and watching them go!

Lipsandlashes · 09/09/2021 14:46

How does he deal with the ice cream van? FFS! People are getting weirder I swear

owlbethere · 09/09/2021 14:47

😂😂😂😂 tell him to grow a pair and parent his child.

Hilarious. I thought it was going to be moped noise or something. Is he offering to cater to your culinary choices this week and on any occasion you fancy a carry-out in the future?

TeapotCollection · 09/09/2021 14:47

Oh dear OP, I suspect this is the start of much worse to come from them. I really hope I’m wrong

TheWoleb · 09/09/2021 14:47

I cannot believe that you actually justified his question. I cant believe you stood there and explained. Why would you even tell him anything. What you eat is nothing to do with him at all.

BoredZelda · 09/09/2021 14:48

This has to be a joke surely?

santaslittlehohoho · 09/09/2021 14:48

This is the best thing I've read haha Grin

I take it you're planning a weekend of extravagant takeaways?!

Unsure1983 · 09/09/2021 14:49

Nip this in the bud immediately before he comes up with more insane requests.

MzHz · 09/09/2021 14:49

Start getting the takeaway delivered!

Sod him! He needs to parent his child!

What you do is your own business

If he says anything at all, you reply “oh! Wow! You were serious?!” And laugh like a maniac and go on with your day.
