I'm in a bit of a funk today so want to know what other people do when faced with an idea of changing something.

Has anyone ever made a drastic or even a small change for the better? Whether that be spiritually / money wise or with themselves?

I keep thinking about the notion that 'life is what you make of it' and questioning where I am going wrong.

Stopped saying yeah okay. If I don't want to do it I don't !

Examples:
I'm a single mum good easy job no real money worries

Married couples constantly asking me to pick up their kids, drop off have for tea etc

I just say no

And it's awesome 👏🏼

DukeOfEarlGrey · 10/09/2021 20:50

Another one i would add is that finding mumsnet actually made a huge difference to me. I discovered it at least 10 yrs ago and have learned so much that I didn't understand before, particularly around setting boundaries with toxic people.

@Tangledtresses that made me smile - simple but effective, love it!

So many but...

Moved out of London, not far, Hertfordshire but it’s a different life and I’m old enough to be happy with a slightly slower lifestyle.

Had hypnotherapy and hence lost 4.5 stones 😇

Realised that being a good enough mum is actually good enough.

Prolific means something that is done alot..e.g. prolific offender. Not sure if you mean something people do often or something drastic that might be a one off...or both.

Most drastic thing I did was learn radical acceptance. One I could see the reality of a situation without emotion, I stopped feeling helpless and ciuld see how to take control.
I also cut emotional vampires out of my life and tried to enjoy more 'me time'.

Antinerak · 10/09/2021 21:24

Moved far away from family and married someone who provided stability and safety for the first time in my life.

Motherofalittledragon · 10/09/2021 21:44

Went NC with my half brother and SIL, god that was a weight lifted from my shoulders.

BOOnanasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 10/09/2021 21:55

Admitted I was an alcoholic went to rehab and am in recovery.

It’s not easy sometimes but it was the best decision I ever made. I have a life now rather than existing to drink.

DreamTheMoors · 10/09/2021 21:56

I was terribly competitive. In my mid-twenties, I finally figured out that there will always be someone who is

Smarter
Prettier
Wealthier
More successful
Wiser
More practical
Etc etc etc.

I’m in my sixties now and I’ve had a much happier life than I would have if I hadn’t figured that out.

annacondom · 10/09/2021 22:05

Gave up wheat (so all the crap - pastry, pies, etc). Have dark choc daily instead.
Gave up yoga classes (thanks, Covid).
Do daily yoga instead.
Gave up meat and alcohol.
Might sound drastic but I eat loads of things I love (fresh mangoes are amazing!).

“ Had hypnotherapy and hence lost 4.5 stones 😇”

Wow. Can you say a bit more about how the therapy worked? How did it affect what you ate?
How many sessions did you have?

Did ‘prolific’ change its meaning since I last opened a dictionary?

parrotonmyshoulder · 10/09/2021 22:20

@CrankyFrankie
We’ve been through that. No-one cares. Not the point of the thread.

Check the meaning of pedant while you're there
Ginandcrispsarebliss · 10/09/2021 23:04

Lost 4 stone in weight and go regular to the gym. In lockdown i exercised at home. Changed my life and feel much better for it.

Dilligaf81 · 10/09/2021 23:24

newlifepending good luck.
This is exactly what I am looking into at the moment. I just need to see if it's financially viable at the moment.

nopuppiesallowed · 10/09/2021 23:45

Became a Christian. Changed my life completely. Feel totally loved.

Mamanyt · 11/09/2021 00:33

LOL, when my ex last said, in the heat of an argument, "Maybe we should just get a divorce," rather than breaking down, crying, and backing down, I very calmly said, "You know, I think you are right." The look on his face was priceless. And, although it took time, I went from a very low credit rating to right in the middle of the highest credit rating. I have a budget that balances EVERY MONTH. I have a peaceful home. I have everything I need, and a good bit of what I want.

Bertiebiscuit · 11/09/2021 00:45

Divorced crap husband, vowed never to marry or even live with a man again, and haven't - have romance /sex with, yes, but living with men has been proved to be bad for women's mental and physical health - the woman almost always does more than her share of the physical and emotional work, I just can't be someone's staff/servant

Bertiebiscuit · 11/09/2021 00:47

Gave up ironing, never iron anything - got rid of ironing board etc - hang up clothes damp from washing machine, they always look fine - don't buy clothes that have to be ironed, but most don't need it, and the fabric lasts longer and looks better without

Susannahmoody · 11/09/2021 03:31
