And live 40 minutes away from the job, would you drive or take the train?
Job is at a London hospital

How central do you mean. St Mary’s or Lewisham. Or Kings or UCLH. Massive difference

TabithaTiger · 08/09/2021 19:39

Is the journey time door to door exactly the same by car and train? How much will it cost by train v petrol and parking?

Lunaballoon · 08/09/2021 19:39

Train. Parking likely to be impossible.

LtJudyHopps · 08/09/2021 19:41

It’s not black and white it would really depend on which hospital and what the transport links are like. Royal free? Transport. North Middlesex? Drive. St Barts? Transport

Davros · 08/09/2021 19:41

Train. Vegging time

Phineyj · 08/09/2021 19:42

Depends! Is there parking. Can you easily access the parking. Is the parking expensive. How far away is the train station. How frequent is the train service. How reliable is the train service. Are you doing night shifts? Ought to inform insurer as higher risk of crash. Does anyone else need the car. Do you have to carry equipment...

We cannot tell you!

minipie · 08/09/2021 19:43

Train absolutely

Parking, traffic, congestion charge, ULEZ, nutter Uber drivers and cyclists. You don’t want to drive into London unless you really have to IMO.

If it’s on the outskirts of London this may be different, although I’d still go for the train option as the traffic can be awful even in outer London

sprinkleyumnut · 08/09/2021 19:43

Depends on parking and traffic. It would probably be a lot easier getting the train.

pigsDOfly · 08/09/2021 19:43

Depends where in London you live and where the hospital is.

London is a very big place.

Train would be my preferred option.

I used to live just north of Barnet and my job was just under 8 miles away in a 'leafy' London suburb

During rush hour it could often take me 45 minutes to get there by car, train wasn't an option.

Three0fivepointfour · 08/09/2021 19:44

Train.
Congestion charge would be awful. As would parking.
Would you be 40 mins by car and by train? It doesn’t sound likely?

Tumbl · 08/09/2021 19:46

Traffic moves at an average speed of 12mph in London so it's usually quicker on a train

DeepaBeesKit · 08/09/2021 19:47

Train. Parking in London is a nightmare, congestion charges add a lot of cost, and you could get hammered by some awful traffic .

MarshaBradyo · 08/09/2021 19:47

Train for sure

What’s the journey?

Also what about cost ULEZ etc

pigsDOfly · 08/09/2021 19:48

Also, rather depends on what time of day you're travelling.

Neighneigh · 08/09/2021 19:50

I'd cycle it! 40 mins is completely average in London

Rysimo · 08/09/2021 19:52

Train. I'm exactly 40 minutes away and it's far far easier than trying to do rush hour in a car.

LondonIsCalling · 08/09/2021 19:52

Peak hours morning and evening.
Chelsea and Westminster

Mummyme87 · 08/09/2021 19:52

Depends where in london and where you live. I work SW london and get bus and tube door to door is 40mins

pigsDOfly · 08/09/2021 19:52

Neighneigh

Op hasn't asked about cycling so probably isn't considering that option.

Salaman · 08/09/2021 19:53

Parking and congestion charge will cost you a fortune.

pigsDOfly · 08/09/2021 19:56

Chelsea and Westminster?

Train every time.

Congestion charge alone will cost a fortune and you'll be sitting in traffic for ages.

pigsDOfly · 08/09/2021 19:58

Yes, and parking.

Unless you get free parking on the job. Parking will be impossible and extremely expensive if you manage to find any.

TSSDNCOP · 08/09/2021 19:58

Train. Wouldn't even consider driving.

Royalbloo · 08/09/2021 19:58

Train - it can take you half an hr to cover 3 miles in central london

Horriblewoman · 08/09/2021 20:00

Train or cycling if I could do it in under an hour
