And live 40 minutes away from the job, would you drive or take the train?
Job is at a London hospital

Train. The cost of driving and parking will be phenomenal.

Spidey66 · 08/09/2021 20:01

World of difference between Chase Farm and St Marys Paddington, whether the job was shifts and whether the 40mins was train or driving.

Fillybuster · 08/09/2021 20:01

I drove from NW London to Paddington for a year because the drive was short (about 25 mins) whilst the public transport option was horrific - but I had guaranteed, cheap parking as this was before the massive redevelopment of the whole area. In most instances (& certainly if the two options were fairly equal in terms of time) I'd take the tube/train option and use the time to read the paper or catch up on work rather than deal with traffic and parking challenges.

Spidey66 · 08/09/2021 20:02

Sorry, youve given more info. In that example train all the way.

That's not completely realistic though now people are back to work unless you're near the start of the line.
MorganKitten · 08/09/2021 20:06

I do bus or train and have done for years.

daisyducky · 08/09/2021 20:06

C&W - train! Have a look at the parking prices 😱

N4ish · 08/09/2021 20:07

Train every time. I think driving in Central London is madness, incredibly frustrating and expensive.

Constellationstation · 08/09/2021 20:07

Train

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/09/2021 20:09

I work in a central London hospital and my journey to work takes about 50minutes door to door, using the train.

If I drove it would take hours to get there, parking would be completely impossible (or £££ if I found somewhere) and my cortisol levels would be sky high because driving in central London is awful.

I recommend the train.

WindyWindsor · 08/09/2021 20:11

Chelsea Westminster Hospital has quite a substantial underground carpark right? Or am I remembering that wrong. Would parking be free for you?

HeddaGarbled · 08/09/2021 20:12

Train. Driving in London is too stressful.

mobear · 08/09/2021 20:13

Train. It will cost you a fortune to park in Chelsea & Westminster unless you’re provided with parking.

JumpingPiglets · 08/09/2021 20:14

I'd love to say I'd take the train - more environmentally friendly - but I would probably drive. Parking there isn't difficult and if you get an electric car congestion etc not/less of a problem. Plus you can listen to music and chill

sirfredfredgeorge · 08/09/2021 20:15

electric bicycle or normal bicycle, there is no way driving is realistic, and the train is just depressing.

sirfredfredgeorge · 08/09/2021 20:17

if you get an electric car congestion etc not/less of a problem

Remember the congestion charge starts for them too in 2025.

longue · 08/09/2021 20:18

Depends on the journey as there are so many elements. public transport options, traffic, parking, etc

Tumbl · 08/09/2021 20:18

@LondonIsCalling

Peak hours morning and evening. Chelsea and Westminster
No way unless you want to spend more money than you earn in parking fees
FleasInMyKnees · 08/09/2021 20:18

What station would you travel from. I would not want to drive to Fulham in peak hours any day of the week,

longue · 08/09/2021 20:19

My DH sometimes drives into the office in the city. It's more expensive then the tube, takes not that much longer & he has free parking.

KittenKong · 08/09/2021 20:19

Are you going through congestion/ulez zones? Parking might be £££££ as well.

Work out the costs. Plus if you are doing antisocial hours shifts then there’s the safety aspect too (night buses etc)

AntiHop · 08/09/2021 20:19

Is there even anywhere to park round there?!

idontlikealdi · 08/09/2021 20:21

C&w - train / tube / bike / run depending where you live. Driving will be horrific, plus how much would tu pay for parking?

longue · 08/09/2021 20:21

do you get free or subsidised parking at C&W?

StripeyFloorboards · 08/09/2021 20:22

C&W - train.

Frankly even Lewisham / Barnet etc I'd get the train unless you'd be waiting ages for one; parking can be a bit of a disaster round hospitals.
