And live 40 minutes away from the job, would you drive or take the train?
Job is at a London hospital

Train. Driving in town is well. Not something that I would consider at all.

Chloemol · 08/09/2021 20:23

Unless you have a parking space, train

Comedycook · 08/09/2021 20:24

Train...very few people who work in central London drive.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 08/09/2021 20:25

Train.

PaperDolphin · 08/09/2021 20:26

Definitely train

Cuddlemonsters · 08/09/2021 20:27

HugeBowlofChips · 08/09/2021 20:27

Train - but if you are working shifts at unsocial hours when there are no trains how are you getting home?

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 08/09/2021 20:30

TRAIN!
The car park for the hospital often has a queue to get in it’s so busy

LondonIsCalling · 08/09/2021 20:31

I will be possibly working 9AM-5PM

If you're coming in from the West and have free parking driving might be all right. But I still wouldn't do it; a car is a burden in central London really.

FleasInMyKnees · 08/09/2021 20:32

Where are you travelling from

evilharpy · 08/09/2021 20:35

40 minutes how - walking? Driving? If it's 40 minutes walk I'd probably cycle unless the weather is horrible.

cinders15 · 08/09/2021 20:36

Good infrastructure near there

When I worked at West Mid I used to get the staff shuttle bus to ChelWest - if you are nearer West Mid in Isleworth - mind you, even staff parking there is eye watering!!

Public transport.

Hospitals have limited parking and you are highly unlikely to get it regularly.

HDready · 08/09/2021 20:42

Public transport definitely. As someone else said - a car is a burden in central London.

AnUnlikelyCombination · 08/09/2021 20:42

On principle, my car only goes out of London. Or around.

A car in central London is a slow, expensive, frustrating liability.

LakeShoreD · 08/09/2021 20:42

C&W I’d probably take the train if you’ve got a direct route. Depends where you’re coming from but if it’s south then the bridge traffic in the morning is absolutely horrendous. I had to go there for all my pregnancy appointments, they were always at around 9am and it’s supposed to take me 10 mins but was never less than 30, often it was 45. The car park there is pretty good though, would you get it for free?

XelaM · 08/09/2021 20:46

I'm in London and I drive everywhere (even into the cc zone) but then I absolutely hate public transport. Parking is the biggest issue. If you get free parking I would drive, if not parking can be absolutely extortionate

chesirecat99 · 08/09/2021 20:49

Have you actually checked TFL and Google maps for the journey times at the correct times of day and they both come out at 40 mins?

London traffic can be a nightmare, I was shocked to find that what was normally a 45 minute journey (but up to 1.5 hours if there were traffic jams), was only a 15 minute journey on Christmas Day when there was no traffic at all. Have you checked the cost and availability of parking?

TBH, the tube is a hellfire-hot, germ-infested, smelly nightmare during rush hour at the best of times, add in COVID as the icing on the cake, I might be tempted to drive rather than spend 40 mins standing crushed up against someone's sweaty armpit being coughed and sneezed on if the cost wasn't much higher than public transport and the journey time really was exactly the same.

Stopsnowing · 08/09/2021 20:51

The hospital is a good 15 to 20 min walk from any train station so you would to factor that in. When I go there I get a bus which is a short ride from south ken tube.

Sparklesocks · 08/09/2021 20:51

Would it really be 40 mins in London rush hour traffic? It can be painfully slow. Also do you have a parking space arranged?

Queenoftheashes · 08/09/2021 20:51

I’d get the district line there which is nice and cool. It takes 35 mins. With driving … might get there quicker but not at rush hour.

Depends on hours. I’d probably drive if you work outside core commuting hours (some ‘40 min’ drives take just 30mins early mornings or evenings).
