And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

OP posts:
Mybobowler · 29/08/2021 12:20

Hah my two year old daughter's name is listed here. I'm a late 80's baby, my mum was born in 1960. DD's name is complimented on by everyone under the age of 50, but parent's generation were all very Hmm when we announced her name.

Baby boy due soon and I fear we may be about to continue the theme with his name (not Wayne or Kevin, alas, but I do want to name my hypothetical future dog Kevin)

I am a teacher. I have been teaching 14 years and in that time have taught many names in the style mentioned here
Derek
Graham
Keith
Rebecca
Dennis
Linda
Sarah
Laura
Kevin

Branleuse · 29/08/2021 12:21

I think some of the 80s names are due a comeback. I love Sarah and Lisa and Jean. Angela and Andrea I think will come back too.

notanothertakeaway · 29/08/2021 12:21

@Petardos

I do not get this post? But I am not English?
Reminiscing about names which used to be popular, and might come back into fashion
PolytheneRam · 29/08/2021 12:22

@PasstheBucket89

oh dear, I'm a late 80s baby I wonder when Rebecca, Amy and Laura will be making comebacks x
I'm one of those. Mid eighties.

Yep, I keep on hearing the name Hazel being shouted. My relative is hazel and it was always considered a bit of an untrendy, granny-ish name and she hated it. Now it's in the top ten I think! It makes me giggle when I hear it.

Just waiting now for a Sharon or Tracey.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 29/08/2021 12:27

Amelia was the number one English baby girl name from 2014-2016.

Linda, Sarah and Carol are the names due a resurgence. Maybe not Karen though.

Hellotoallmyfans · 29/08/2021 12:28

**when I hear it being shouted at toddlers that should say!

trevthecat · 29/08/2021 12:28

Me and my dh play this game a lot! Ian, Gary, Ethel, Joyce, deirdre, Barbara, doreen, Colin, Brian, keith

BenjiMcSchmenzie · 29/08/2021 12:28

Nigel is due a resurgence. I have an old friend called Nigel; we are 50-ish. The world needs more Nigels. Also Rogers.

Delphinium90 · 29/08/2021 12:29

Oops,pressed Post before I'd finished-sorry!
Just put of teaching, but I recall these names cropping up recently.

Hellotoallmyfans · 29/08/2021 12:29

What about Rita and Sue? Can you imagine having two little girls and calling them Rita and Sue and not realising the connotations? Grin

NapoleonOzmolysis · 29/08/2021 12:30

I know primary aged -
Keith
Sarah
David
Kirsty
Eric
Amy
Laura
Mark
Douglas

I don't know how it is decided that Stanley is a cool old man name but Derek isn't, or Eric is OK but Maurice isn't. Or Maisy but not Gladys or Elsie but not Edna. There doesn't seem to be a ready formula!

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 29/08/2021 12:30

Nicola
Julie
Sarah
Debbie
Clare
Lisa
Michelle
Alison

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2021 12:32

Denise....there were several Denise's in my year..

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/08/2021 12:32

Oh god. No. It’s 80’s clothes all over again! We all vowed not to do it didn’t we? Yet the young are knee deep in those flamboyant styles.

If anyone calls their child Kevin it’s going to be difficult to contain myself - I’m thinking Harry Enfield. Sharon, Gary and Tracy also pretty 😱.

Crunched · 29/08/2021 12:33

I know a baby Edna and Olive but I'm yet to meet a baby Beryl.

Caspianberg · 29/08/2021 12:36

@Thefaceofboe - central Europe. After Joanna, Kevin and Paul have also never gone out of fashion.

KineticSand · 29/08/2021 12:37

A young colleague (mid twenties at the most) has a toddler daughter called Brenda.

I know a toddler Audrey.

I met a pug dog called Barbara.
