And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

MyFloorIsLava · 29/08/2021 11:58

We're getting guinea pigs soon, I'm pushing to have one named Carol (after one of my favourite film characters)

bubblebath62636 · 29/08/2021 11:58

I'm a Joanne (early 30s), glad to see it making a comeback 😂

Benjispruce5 · 29/08/2021 11:59

Well if Ada is now popular, Joanne surely is an improvement!

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2021 11:59

I also went to school with an Elspeth and a Veronica , but I cant see those coming back..

Cabbagewhites · 29/08/2021 12:00

Catherine and Elizabeth (as first names, not second names)

Benjispruce5 · 29/08/2021 12:01

Lots of Polish Veronicas spelt with a Weronika are around 20 now. Were at school with my DD. A few shortened to Ronnie.

Cabbagewhites · 29/08/2021 12:01

I know a little Audrey and a little Gavin.

x2boys · 29/08/2021 12:02

OP posts:
Bbq1 · 29/08/2021 12:03

Awaiting Andrea, Debbie, Kirsty and Gillian for girls. Boys Martin, Mark, Paul and Ian.
My own name is timeless in so much as I have known other people with my name but they have always been older than me. I have never met somebody younger called it. I think it's a lovely name and don't know why people don't use it nowadays.

CounsellorTroi · 29/08/2021 12:04

Helen
Deborah
Claire

Benjispruce5 · 29/08/2021 12:04

John, Paul, Peter and Mark were big in the 70s at my Catholic school

ImAbsolutelyTwatted · 29/08/2021 12:05

My 3yr old DD has named her dolls Gary & Joyce. Think they'll make a comeback Grin

lunar1 · 29/08/2021 12:06

Is Michelle on the way back, I'm 40 and have 9 of them in my phone, and 7 Debbie/Deborah/Debra's!

Travielkapelka · 29/08/2021 12:07

Amy Rebecca and Laura never went out. Amy in particular is timeless. I know people of every age called Amy from 50 down to little ones and 3 or 4 in each of my kids years (teens)

JadziaSnax · 29/08/2021 12:09

Alison, Helen, Claire, Donna, Jacqueline, Caroline, Andrea for girls.

Lee, Andrew, David, Paul, Robert, Russell, Joel for boys.

CounsellorTroi · 29/08/2021 12:09

In Tudor times seemingly everyone was called Jane, Anne, Mary, Catherine or Elizabeth.

Petardos · 29/08/2021 12:09

I do not get this post? But I am not English?

MyFloorIsLava · 29/08/2021 12:09

Elizabeth has been in style for ages, I was thinking of naming my 7yo Elizabeth but then 2 Elizabeths and an Eliza were born to friends in the preceeding months.

Blanketpolicy · 29/08/2021 12:12

I much rather, as a adult, be called Joanne than some of the current twee top baby girl names that mostly end in -ie or -ia

deleteasappropriate · 29/08/2021 12:17

As an over 60 the sentiment expressed by OP is exactly what I've thought when I've heard old lady names (ie my grandparents and parents generation) being used now. Daisy, Bertha, Martha, Eric, Ernie, Dorothy, Alma, Erica, Nessie, Agnes (invariably reversed to Senga by those unfortunate enough to be given in) - all pensioner names! So yes, I expect there will be Sharon and Tracey's due a resurgence :)

I'm not English either, you don't have to be!

It's basically about the trends in baby names, specifically in the UK.

Most names seem to become popular again, when a generation start to die out.

For example, my mum had two friends named Maisie. Maisie is now a popular name again and if my mum was alive today, she'd be 91.

GarnetsandRubies · 29/08/2021 12:20

I know a 9 year old Joanne!

Other names which could come back

Sue
Lorraine
Judith
Diane
Carole
Tracy
Anne

Joanne was a popular name quite a few years ago. Then fell out of favour as very popular names tend to do. When names enjoy a resurgence, it reminds us how old we are!

A bit like when Hollywood remakes a movie that we once enjoyed for example.
